Jun 29, 2010I have the localized strings file that is used in the Iphone app that I work on to port to Android. Are there any tools that go through the file taken from the xcode project and build the xml needed to use the strings in android? This tool should be easy to build but I appreciate any pointers to already working tools.

Nov 12, 2010I am having a unicode string "u3403" which is actualy some japansee character I want to pass it through a JSON object. So i put the value as say String str ="u3403" jsonObject.put("name",str); When i do this the json object internally adds another escape sequence as "u3403", and the request string has two "" slashes.This is interpreted wrongly by the server as it does not detect unicode name.What can i do for this?

This is the android URI returned by android.provider.MediaStore.Images.Media.INTERNAL_CONTENT_URI content://media/external/images/media/3
When I try to construct a java URI object from this object, I get an IllegalArgumentException with the exception description Expected file scheme in URI: content://media/external/images/media/3 whereas the android URI shows the scheme as content
Never found a solution for the original question. But if you want the byte stream of an image in the pictures gallery, this piece of code will do that.

Feb 28, 2010I want to convert this into a File object, and only a File object - I need to pass it to another constructor that requires a File. How can I convert a URI like this to a File object? If I try File newFile = new File(myURI);I get an error in Eclipse suggesting that I should convert the URI to a String. Supplying URI.getPath() in the constructor doesn't help either.
This relates to the 'How can I convert android.net.uri object to java.net.uri object?' question, which unfortunately seems to have no good answer, but I want a File object out, not a java uri. I don't mind if I have to write it to a bytestream and back again - whatever is the best way.Apologies if I'm cross-posting my own question, but I thought I might need to make things a bit clearer.

I need to add a specific time to it. The time I have is a string in this format: "9:00 PM EST"..How would I "add" this time to the previous date? If the Date object currently has: "4/24/10 00:00:00"
How would I change it to instead be: "4/24/10 09:00:00 EST"..I would prefer to do this without the use of an external library, if possible.

Mar 18, 2010I am currently sending and receiving SIP messages across a network. When I want to add SDP data to a SIP message I use the SessionDescription object in jrtp. This object is then added to the SIP message. But when I get a SIP message from the server its SDP is in a byte[] array. So I'm wondering is there anyway to convert the byte[] back into a SessionDescription object so I can use the SessionDescription object's methods to parse the data?

Jul 1, 2010I am using a html parser called jsoap, to load and parse html files. The problem is that the webpage I'm scraping is encoded in ISO-8859-1 charset while Android is using UTF-8 encoding(?). This is results in some characters shows up as question marks. So now I guess I should convert the string to UTF-8 format. Now I have found this Class called CharsetEncoder in the Android SDK, which I guess could help me. But I can't figure out how to implement it in practice, so I wonder if could get som help with by a practical example.

Android :: Serializable Object In Intent Returning As String
Jun 16, 2010In my application, I am trying to pass a serializable object through an intent to another activity. The intent is not entirely created by me, it is created and passed through a search suggestion.
In the content provider for the search suggestion, the object is created and placed in the SUGGEST_COLUMN_INTENT_EXTRA_DATA column of the MatrixCursor. However, when in the receiving activity I call getIntent().getSerializableExtra(SearchManager.EXTRA_DATA_KEY), the returned object is of type String and I cannot cast it into the original object class.
I tried making a parcelable wrapper for my object that calls out.writeSerializable(...) and use that instead but the same thing happened.
The string that is returned is like a generic Object toString(), i.e. com.foo.yak.MyAwesomeClass@4350058, so I'm assuming that toString() is being called somewhere where I have no control.

The program that I am trying to make calculates the actual storage capacity of secondary storage mediums.
