Say I have mapview control in my Android app. If I know a landmark exists at a certain latitude and longitude, how can I determine if that landmark is currently viewable on the user's screen? Is there a method for getting the coordinates for the top left and bottom right corners of the visible area?

right away I am doing an app for an festival, and I want to make a area map / area plan. I have got a picture (bigger then the screen) and I want to be able to move it up/down and to the left/right. Further I want to place smaler icons (like the stage, you should be able to click on it and see who is playing) or doing the same in de big picture and get the touch with a x/y request.but I haven't got an idea how I could realise this,

Our application displays widgets that update every minute through Alarm. It works fine under 1.5 and 1.6 but since 2.0, widget is not displayed at all. Only initial layout is displayed.
View 2 Replies View RelatedTrying to solve my current problem of drawing an image on an Android MapView and then animate it to represent a moving object, I decided to try to just draw a raw ImageView at a GeoPoint on the map and then try and animate it from there.
This is the code I put in my map activity (extends MapActivity)'s onCreate method:

Again, I'm just trying to draw the static icon and animate it from there. I can already do this with an ItemizedOverlay, but as far as I can tell, I can't animate the elements of an AnimatedOverlay the way that I can animate a view. Thus, using ImageView.
But the icon doesn't show up.
I know this is a very noobish question -- but what is the best way to convert a GeoPoint to a Location on the Android platform.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have 2 different calendars in google (each linked to a different google e-mail address) - one is for myself (primary calendar) and the other is for my kids.On my PC, both are visible when I am logged onto my primary account (this is the same account I have on my phone).On my phone, I see all of the primary calendar items and all of the secondary calendar items that I entered on my phone (nicely color coded by calendar). None of the secondary calendar items that were entered on my PC are viewable. On my PC I can see the secondary calendar items that I entered on my phone.At one point I could see everything on the phone, but now I have this obstacle.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm running 2.1 on a HTC Desire and I have a wierd problem with my contacts.Prior to purchasing my Desire I used a Nokia N96, all my contacts were stored on the SIM card which I just popped into my new Desire.If I go into Phone I see all my contacts with their numbers displayed underneath, however if I go to "People" I only see the contact with no number associated with it, if I go to edit a contact it does not show any number at all.Also if I send a text from another number (which is stored in "People") the text delivers and show only the number it was sent from, it does not link to the stored contact.I copied all SIM contacts to the Phone to see if this made any difference, alas it did not!

View 11 Replies View RelatedThe display area of my SGS has been reduced there is now a black line (approximatively 1 millimeter thick) around the display now anything that should be displayed has been centered (a kind of)i have noticed that after press-holding the HOME BUTTON (to get to the task manager).even when the phone that black border is still there and it look like the screen has been pushed down the display is not now at the same level as the top-cover (or screen cover).I have used the factory reset but nothing has changed.My phone look horrible now.

(The Google Contacts, which is the source for the 'People' is also a single field for street, city ,state, zip.) The latter part of the field (zip, state and sometimes city), does not show up without clicking on the address, loading the map (with GPS running) and then clicking on the address balloon in the map.Is there an easier way that I should be doing this to read the entire address for a contact?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am relatively new to Android. Just got a Droid 4. As part of the setup, I added my gmail accounts. On the regular web interface, I have about 20 labels (folder) to archive the old messages. Then, I also had about 80 messages left in the inbox. Five days later, all of a sudden, I only have 1 message (a chat converted info a message 2 months ago) left in the inbox. Everything else in the inbox is gone. If I use the gmail app on the phone, that's what I see as well.
However, if I use the "mail" app on the phone, I am still seeing all the messages originally in the inbox. And the inbox is associated with my gmail account.
Now, comes the question: how can I restore all the email messages viewable by the "mail" app back into the inbox viewable by the "gmail" app, which is also the inbox in the web interface on my computer?
I'm going to be a new Android user and Id like to find the apps I want to use now so I'll have them when I get the phone. It looks like the Market only shows featured apps, is there a place that I can find apps that are categorized? Or is it only available on the phone? and if it is, is it categorized? I am trying to pass location data from my application to the Google Navigation API (No, not the browser). I can pass data to the dialer, and call a phone number successfully, but now wish to use the turn-by-turn navigation as an additional function. I have searched tirelessly through Android documentation, Google Maps API Documentation, and the web without luck.Can anyone point me in the right direction or hint how I can pass the service my data?

Apparently, my xml view is not correctly understood with this device (or Android version). With Android 2.1 all is ok, but with Android 1.6 I've a second scroll bars displayed (one for webview another for the scroll view), my last relative layout covers the webview which is not displayed completely. I know that an issue was existing with Android 1.5.

The issue is that when the user changes orientation, you need to be able to re-render your activity which means you need to get back at that data that you use to render. View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a list view with array adapter to show user some information that retrieved from Internet, As we all know reading data from Internet requires some time to finish, but if I try to read data on getView(), it means user must wait and he/she cannot see anything at that time, the screen is black for long a time because it will cost too much time to finish. This is unacceptable.
So I think maybe I can show user a empty list view first and then display a progress dialog to let user know I'm now just reading data. The background task will read data and send message to UI thread when job is done. But there's one problem: I don't know how to get notified when list view is displayed. I mean, I want to know when & where to show that progress dialog when I first show user an empty list?
I have a service class written which gives notification(Toast dialog) on every life cycle method call back. when i run my application all works well. but when run this service class from my test project the toast message are not displayed.
It give the following log for the toast message
