View 2 Replies View RelatedI am trying to pass location data from my application to the Google Navigation API (No, not the browser). I can pass data to the dialer, and call a phone number successfully, but now wish to use the turn-by-turn navigation as an additional function. I have searched tirelessly through Android documentation, Google Maps API Documentation, and the web without luck. Can anyone point me in the right direction or hint how I can pass the service my data?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI want to create a service that runs on Android which can collect all of my location information. Either write the information to a file or send to a server using 3G/wiki network. I was thinking about using a service that runs forever as a daemon. After reading "Diamonds are forever, services are not" by Mark Murphy, I realized that it is not a good idea. However, I need to somehow acquire the moving trajectory information on the Android phone. Without a daemon service running forever, how do I do that ?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a service which runs in the background when the user starts using my app. I am using it to do some posts to our server. I always close my service by calling stopSelf as soon as the posts have been made or failed.
But I recently observed two times that my service did not stop. I saw that in the running services in settings on my device that it has been sitting there for over a few hours.
So I was trying to see if I can alternatively set a timer using which I can force the service to stop after a few minutes no matter what.
Say I have mapview control in my Android app. If I know a landmark exists at a certain latitude and longitude, how can I determine if that landmark is currently viewable on the user's screen? Is there a method for getting the coordinates for the top left and bottom right corners of the visible area?

View 1 Replies View RelatedTrying to solve my current problem of drawing an image on an Android MapView and then animate it to represent a moving object, I decided to try to just draw a raw ImageView at a GeoPoint on the map and then try and animate it from there.
This is the code I put in my map activity (extends MapActivity)'s onCreate method:
CODE:..............
Again, I'm just trying to draw the static icon and animate it from there. I can already do this with an ItemizedOverlay, but as far as I can tell, I can't animate the elements of an AnimatedOverlay the way that I can animate a view. Thus, using ImageView.
But the icon doesn't show up.
I know this is a very noobish question -- but what is the best way to convert a GeoPoint to a Location on the Android platform.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI just got a Moto Droid for business use. If I can't find a workable travel expense app I may have to return it and find something else The biggest problem I'm having in finding what I need is that everything I've tried so far assumes that all expenses will occur in a single currency. Many offer "multiple currencies," but that just means that all expenses are tracked in dollars or euros or pounds, etc. What I need is the ability to enter an expense for a meal purchased in dollars at the airport in Atlanta, and then the next day enter a meal purchased in euros in Paris. I need to be able to have the euro expenses tracked in euros for the same report as expenses tracked in dollars. And I need to be able to record expenses in at least 4 or 5 currencies per report.

I'd like to use my DInc for wireless data when I have a wireless network available, but I don't want to get hit with any $100 roaming or international use fees. I think what I can do is turn airplane mode on while I'm abroad, and then enable wifi on top of airplane mode whenever I need it.

View 2 Replies View RelatedWondering how many of you have a compass that is accurate through its entire travel? Mine heads in the right direction for about 270 degrees (rotating the phone) and the other 90 it is off by about 30 degrees. I have checked out 4 or 5 others in stores since launch day and they behave exactly the same. I also see this behavior using street view.

View 1 Replies View Relatedhow to ensure I can access all my APPs and Contact details when using a travel SIM in another country.
I live in AUS and will travel to SPAIN and ITALY, I will use a travel SIM purchased locally there (to keep costs down). Will my APPS still be visible on the phone and will they work? - ie will they still recognise me and have all my data, login details and preferences readily available.
If not, how should I prepare my phone (data card or whatever) so as to ensure I can get access to my APPS working correctly after I have inserted the new SIM. FYI, the phone is a Samsung Galaxy S2 running jellybean.
Since FB refuses to sync with my contacts, I deleted my FB for HTC Sense account and tried to create a new one. All afternoon yesterday and now this morning I got the message: "Service Unavailable at this time."

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm not sure if this is the problem - but it could be...sorry for the long post, but could REALLY use your help - and this is the best place to find it! Last night I hooked up my Droid to charge on this charger: Amazon.com: Lenmar ACUSB4 AC Travel Adapter for up to 4 USB Powered Devices (Black): Electronics.I went and checked on it later and it was turned off. This was after about 2 hours. The power button wouldn't work and I had to pull the battery to get it to turn on.
So I was thinking that maybe the charger wasn't good enough. Granted, it's not rated all that high but reviews have people charging an iPod, iPhone, Blackberry, and Kindle all at once with it.
It has the 5V output but a lower MA rating (I think 300ma input is what it says). I have another single port charger that only has 500ma (before people come in and say you NEED 800ma or whatever) and it works fine. Anyhow, I tried to replicate the problem by plugging it back into the charger (I wanted to see if it was the charger, or something I did, like set it down too hard...as I have the business card under the battery trick for the back case, thought maybe I dislodged it and was covering the leads or something), and after 8.5 hours, no problems. Fully charged, it was on this morning when I woke.I would REALLY prefer to have a multiple USB charger (even if it costs 50 bucks or more) because I travel a TON and have a bunch of USB devices (6+) that need charged.
Anyone else having the newest Google maps crash out all the time?
Edit: I have a G1
