Android :: Bluetooth Handset For App Sound?
Aug 9, 2010
Is it inherent in Android that the phone Handset profiles (HSP and HFP) can't be used for audio from the non-cellphone applications?I would like to listen to voice quality audiobooks and podcasts on my generic bluetooth headset, without buying an expensive stereo bluetooth headset.

So I have the full version. I looked around and didn't see an answer. First off, I can't find a contact for the dev, or a FAQ on how to use it. I have had it for a few months and everything is great, but now when I am on the phone in the car on the dock and on my BT, I unclip the phone and it should change to my profile that still has the BT enabled. For some reason, my call screen is still blue (BT), but the handset engages and the bluetooth cuts out.

How is Bluetooth audio quality with your Evo? I'm using a Jabra Extreme earpiece and am experiencing poor audio quality. One person with whom I was speaking said that I sounded like I was running or was in a windy location (I was calling from a quiet hotel room). On my end there was noticeable static. As a test, I hung up and paired the Jabra with my Blackberry 8830, and the person with whom I was speaking said that I sounded a little distant, but otherwise clear. On my end, the audio quality was good.

I am writing an android app for storing and managing voice memos with some basic metadata and tagging.
When recording sound I use:
CODE:...................
This works well when using the phone in a normal fashion. However, it does not detect the presence of a bluetooth headset and still uses the phone's own microphone even when the headset is plugged in.
I also tried using MediaRecorder.AudioSource.DEFAULT, hoping it would automatically choose the correct source, but then no sound was recorded at all.
How can I a) detect if a bluetooth headset is plugged in and/or b) use a bluetooth headset as audio source for the media recorder?

So far I love my EVO, but one thing that is really driving me crazy. With my Blackberry I had grown accustomed to streaming my music from my phone to a bluetooth stereo gateway in my car and my home.My BB sounded GREAT doing this. But the EVO has a really grungy crackling sound, especially when there is loud high frequency content, such as a lot of cymbals, etc. Some songs sound better than others depending on how they were recorded, but by in large it's very annoying.Even my wife, who is nowhere nearly as picky as I am about sound quality complains about it.I've tried to put up with it, but usually I resort to plugging directly into the aux jack. What a letdown for such an otherwise advanced phone! Is anyone else experiencing this? The research I've done so far indicates the the problem is that Android is locked at a relatively low "bitpool" setting, which is ok for voice, but doesn't provide the necessary bandwidth for decent music quality. Thus far I haven't found way to adjust this.Does anyone know of a solution, or if there is a solution coming? Will this be addressed in Froyo? It just sucks to have to plug my phone in again just to get decent sound quality.

Sorry if this has been covered, I was unable to find anything close to this topic when searching....
When I turn off my bluetooth headset, when the phone recognizes that it is not connected, it tones - some sort of ringtone. It's pretty loud and I'd like to turn it off if possible, but can't find it in any of the settings. Anybody know where this setting is?

Is there a setting or an app to better control what sound goes to my Bluetooth headset? I've got a Jabra Extreme, but I've not been able to find a method to have just voice go out.
Frequently I'll be in the car, and even when I have the Incredible plugged into my car stereo, it still puts music out through my Bluetooth connection and not the headphone jack. Under Bluetooth settings it says "Jabra Extreme Connected to phone and media audio", but there doesnt seem to be a way to say no no bad droid, phone only.
This seems to be the exact opposite problem all the posts I found searching had

I use Slacker and Pandora every day in my car on the ride to and from work, via bluetooth.Every Froyo rom I've tried (CM 6 alpha, the straight FRF57, FRF84, etc) sounds terrible. Its like the highs and lows are WAY overboosted and distorted.Because this has been common to every rom I've tried to date, and it is always fixed by reverting to my rooted 2.1, I usually do that. But I'm tired of missing out on flash and chrome-to-phone. Is there a sound fix?

When I had my Voyager, I could use my bluetooth earpiece to talk on the phone, and also get the audio from the Navigation to come through the earpiece. I was surprised tonight that when I was using my GPS on the Droid it didn't come through my earpiece which resulted in me turning my radio down significantly so I could hear the phone.
I also have a stereo bluetooth headphones that I already paired and see the icon on the screen, but when I play a video or some music, it doesn't come through the headphones. Its still coming out of the Droid's phone speakers. Its showing that it is connected in my notifications bar too.

My PC at home is enabled for Wake On Lan (WOL), and I can turn it on at will from my laptop downstairs. I have done a quick search on the Market and found several apps that will turn my PC on using WOL. What I want is to be able to turn my PC on using WOL whilst I'm at work. I have read that opening a port on my home router (port 9) will allow WOL traffic. Does anyone use WOL from your Hero/Android handset? If so, which app do you use?

I have an HTC Hero - which I love. Unfortunately, it looks like the trackball is broken - it only goes up, down and left.I'm going to call Orange to get a replacement handset but, will I lose access to the market apps I've paid for? Or does the fact that my market use is tied to my google account mean that it will remember which apps I've purchased and allow me to download them on the new handset?

When I was an iPhone user (don't hit me (I'm tougher than you )) I liked to use the Facebook App on the handset, and it had the Chat service built into the App, which was V. Handy.
I liked to use it for private chats with some friends rather than posting on the facebook thingy - dont want every one to know
The Andriod App doesn't seem to do this or have I just missed it?
If I haven't missed it and I am correct - anyone know why such a key feature would be on the iPhone App and not the Andriod App (doesn't seem fair)
Will we see it any time soon - as I don't fancy using another software App to do something the iPhone users can

Are there any existing or forthcoming handsets without physical buttons for Home/Menu/Back/Search? I know these are required for the Android interface, but are there virtual keys on any handsets? It's a small gripe, but on my Legend I am not loving the keys after operating the touch screen!

I currently have an HTC P3600 (old I know!) running Windows 6.1, with a copy of TomTom installed on it. Because of my job (plumber) and the fact that I live in the middle of nowhere I use TomTom on a daily basis. I would very much like to upgrade my handset and move to Android when it becomes available on my operator (SFR in France) later this month. Is there any way of running TomTom on the handset so I don't get lost in deepest darkest Normandy and get eaten by the locals?

I've been scouring the web looking for information on setting up a peer-to-peer connection between Android handsets and so far have drawn a blank. The only thing I can definitively seem to work out is that it was made a whole lot more difficult when XMPP was removed from 1.0. Apart from that, I find a couple of threads on an OpenIntents board about porting an XMPP implementation to Android that were last posted nearly 2 years ago. Has anybody solved this problem effectively? What's the best way of doing it (from a games point of view)?
