I want to publish an application that specifically runs only on 800x480 or higher screens. I don't want users with 480x320, 320x240 etc devices to get it from Android Market. How do I configure it? Market Filters seems to have the answer but I still don't get it.

The Android documentation says that best practices are to make two drawable directories - one for HDPI and one for MDPI. It also says that if the MDPI directory doesn't exist and a MDPI device is running the app, it will scale down the HDPI ones so everything looks good. Is there any reason not to just make one high resolution set of graphics? One con that I can think of is performance issues and one pro I can think of is only having one set of images for your app.

I have noticed that there's a new high-res icon field in the market console. Does anyone know what that's for? I have tested this new field, and I can tell for sure that it was ignored when rendering the android market icon. Maybe that it will get used after a market upgrade... Furthermore, I have had problems with the market icon. After various tests, I have realized that it is always the mdpi icon, scaled to some random size (51px, etc..), even if there's a hdpi icon, and whatever device I used. But I see some icons which seem to be pixel-sharp. Is this just an illusion or is there a trick?

Just got Camera 360 and I'm having some trouble on my EVO. I'm shooting in high quality and in 1280x960 resolution but when I download the pics to my laptop they are coming out 424x320. I bumped up the resolution and same thing, small pics. The stock camera is working fine shooting at 1280x768 resolution

I am using folder organizer which I love, but the stock icons it comes with leave much to be desired.I have been through the market and can't find any decent high resolution icon packs. I would even be happy with just stock android icons. Is there a way to use just the icons from themes?

I am a new android user, and got my Droid 2 the morning they came out at the Verizon store. Now the guy that was helping me at the store told me that the battery life would be bad because of the high resolution screen but I didn't expect it to be this bad. I have been having really bad battery issues and I don't even use it constantly. I have it on around 20% brightness during the day, and I really only send text messages, and some web browsing but not a huge amount. My battery will be drained after 6 hours or so, and will need a charge again. When checking on battery manager it does say that most of my energy is going to my screen, but like I said I don't even have it close to the full brightness. I have been using an app killer program to try to maintain that also, but I did read somewhere that it can actually hurt your battery more, from closing and opening apps. Just wanted to hear some feedback from other users since we a couple days after launch. Everything else has been great with this phone, and I am REALLY enjoying the android OS after switching from a Blackberry.

As a first step toward a speech recognition project, we wrote a simple voice recording application based on the information in this thread: http://groups.google.com/group/android-developers/browse_thread/threa...
It is working; however, the audio is extremely poor -- too staticy for our needs code...
As a comparison, here is a similar audio file captured with audacity on a PC: http://juzzam.org:9090/myAudioFile_onPC.mp3
Has anyone been able to record high quality audio with the emulator? If not, is it any better on the android dev phone?
According to the documentation of MediaRecorder, there is only one audio encoder "AMR (Narrowband) audio codec" and three output formats--3gpp, mpeg, and raw AMR: http://developer.android.com/reference/android/media/MediaRecorder.html
Here is the Activity source: http://juzzam.org:9090/RecordMicrophone.java.txt
We are testing on Windows XP, with a Logitec USB microphone, eclipse ganymede, and we are using all the defaults for an android 1.5 app (no emulator command-line options.. we defined the sdcard in the avd manager).

I'm hoping someone here with some AV knowledge can give me something to try. When I've got my Incredible hooked up to my car stereo via the 3.5mm jack, and have the car charger plugged in, there is a noticeable but intermittent high pitched hiss that comes out of the speakers. If I unplug the car charger it goes away immediately.
I've tried with the volume on the Incredible set at quiet/medium/loud levels and that doesn't seem to make any difference. My guess is that there is resonance from the power cable being picked up by the audio cable, but I've tried moving them around and it doesn't seem to help.

I'm trying to emulate an Acer AOD250 that has a 1024x600 screen and comes with Android. If I create an AVD with default settings except for resolution of 1024x600 and SDK 3, the emulator does not start. The largest I can get working is 670x600. At larger resolutions, sometimes the emulator starts, but does not complete the boot. Is there a memory setting or something that I can change to allow the emulator to work on a screen this big?

Every time someone leaves me a voicemail on my home phone number, VOIP home phone voice mail box sends me the voicemail as a .wav file attachment. When I try to play this .wav file the phone refuses, saying "Sorry, the player does not support this type of audio file".
So, I take it the .wav files cannot be played on Android phones. Has anyone found a workable and simple workaround to this yet?

I am looking for an Android Audio Player that is based on a "now playing" playlist, like Amarok, Winamp or WMP. In relation with that playlist, I want buttons to add a song as the next song, or to add the song to the end of the playlist. Like the Rockbox firmware does it. Is there any app out there that works like this? I don't need any advanced features like lyrics, covers, etc, I just want to listen to music. In case there's nothing around, I'll even consider developing my own. Who needs synched lyrics if there's not even an "add next" option?

I'm using Meridian to listen to audio books, but I would sure love to find a player that let's me choose when to start listening. Meridian remembers where I left off in a book, but one slight bump and it goes back to zero. Sure would be nice to have it start at "minute 210" or wherever.

I am writing a music player for esoteric music formats, and have defined mime types for them in my Manifest.
However, the standard music player is always started even though it can't handle the format. Looking at logcat I see;
: D/MediaScannerService( 688): IMediaScannerService.scanFile: / sdcard/download/Cybernoid.sid mimeType: audio/prs.sid : I/ActivityManager( 578): Stopping service: com.android.providers.media/.MediaScannerService : I/ActivityManager( 578): Starting activity: Intent { action=android.intent.action.VIEW data=file:///sdcard/download/ Cybernoid.sid type=audio/prs.sid flags=0x4000000 comp={com.android.music/com.android.music.MediaPlaybackActivity} }
.. so it seems the component is explicitly set to the music player ? Is there any way around this ?

MediaPlayer mp = new MediaPlayer();
mp.setDataSource(this, Uri.parse("http://wamu-1.streamguys.com:80"));
mp.prepare(); mp.start();

I'm getting "java.io.IOException: Prepare failed.: status=0x1"

As mentioned audio stops after some random number of times when played from either Music/Video player. After some debugging, I found that the problem is:
In "android_audio_output.cpp"->audout_thread_func() there is a call to wait(iAudioThreadSem->Wait()) just before the while(1) and it is waiting indefinitely for something.
Can anybody tell me what is it waiting for and why is it not able to come out? From what I can understand, it is waiting for a signal (semaphore) but where is it expecting a signal from?
