Is there a way to change notification settings in the native email app (possibly also gmail)?
I'm thinking about locale plugin which would allow to change notification settings in each app independently. For example disable sound notifications in email app and leave in gmail...

I am looking for an app to do the following things. Change ringer setting when getting a call from a certain number. i.e. Turn the ringer on when I call it from my google voice number in case I loose it.Also, to run a script when connecting to a specific wifi network.I believe Locale can do at least the first one, but I was wondering if there were any cheaper apps to do this as I have no interest in the gps features of locale.

Why hasn't anyone created a email application that allows you to change font size? It seems everyone wants one.

I've checked the various forums and it appears that others have the same issue as I do. Basically, when I am connected to WiFi, I cannot send emails. When not connected to WiFi, I can send emails. This is a case for my email account with Shaw Cable (my home Internet provider). I have no problems sending emails from my Hotmail account on WiFi or not. The reason appears to be that my wireless carrier, Bell Canada, does not allow me to use my home Internet provider's (Shaw Cable) SMTP server to send emails. If I am on WiFi on my home email, I can send emails via Shaw's SMTP server. If I am not on WiFi, I have to use my wireless carrier's (Bell) SMTP server to send emails.
However, If I do this, when I use my WiFi at home, Shaw does not allow me to use Bell's SMTP server to send emails. The way I can always send emails where ever I am is if my email app only uses my wireless carrier to send emails. The email app on my phone, the Desire Z, will always use WiFi if it is available. Only if WiFi is not available will it use my wireless carrier. I cannot seem to find a way to force my email app to only use my wireless carrier. If someone figured out otherwise, please let me know. I have recently switched to an HTC Desire Z from a Nokia N97. When I had the N97 (which runs Symbian), I have always been able to send and receive email where ever I am. For web browsing, it uses WiFi if it is available and switches to my wireless carrier if not.
I am very disappointed that it appears the Desire Z is not able to do the same (unless there is a way and I just haven't figured it out). I have managed to figure out a workaround to my situation. If I send an email from my home, I will simply turn off WiFi. After sending my email, I'll turn WiFi back on. Although this works, this is just really combersome. Even though I'm at home, I do not always have my PC on to send emails and I am not going to wait several minutes for my PC to turn on so I can send an email. If it is a short email, I would rather reply via my phone rather than turn on my computer. Although manually toggling WiFi for sending emails is not too combersome, my expectation from a smartphone as advanced as the Desire Z is that I do not have to do that.

It seems that in my not being able to use the native email app with my yahoo email, which i read often is typical, and after I tried yahoo app that was provided by yahoo (this too was not very good, as I was told again was a frequent opinion), I was then referred to K-9 Email App by an HTC Rep.
Wow, it seems very nice and I love the interface, etc
However, after It brings in all my email, I am left with only being able to get them when I hit the button, "download up to 50 email" or something similar
I have in the "fetch" section, poll every 5 minutes. I see notifications up top that the next notification will be at 11:04 for instance, but NOTHING
I never get anything
Could someone who may know the app help me. What are some key settings I need
I have asked Tmo, HTC, and even wrote an email to the k9 creator...waiting
Any help is appreciated.
For some reason the native app just stopped working. Anyone know why that happened also
Even if you have some other settings to try for my yahoo pop3 email app i would be grateful

Is anyone able to recommend a set of widgets that have simple on/off for wifi, 3G/Data, Bluetooth, GPS & Airplane mode? I've found some sets that have some of these but none with all of them. Obviously I could mix & match but it would look better if I could get the same look and feel.

From BB to Droid I see there is huge difference on emails. Last night I was working with K-9 email.
I have 3 emails: Gmail working OK. Yahoo working OK (using K-9) and there is work account. I can receive emails OK but cannot send any out. Because I cannot use work SMTP server I went and enter my smtp.mobile.mail.yahoo.com port 587 require sign in. There are lots of errors: from push error: null / relay access denied / imap server is not idle capable... Can I have same SMTP under two accounts?

I have a question regarding WiFi setup on my Android. When I'm at home, I want to use manual IP settings for my WiFi (instead of relying on DHCP). However, when I'm out using other WiFi (a coffee shop, or at school) I obviously need DHCP. How do I set manual IP settings on a per-wifi-hotspot basis?

I wanna change APN settings in a phone. Looked the api and there is a content provider named ACTION_APN_SETTINGS developer.android.com/reference/android/provider/Settings.html#ACTION_APN_SETTINGS but I'm having a hard time figuring out how to use it. Is there any example or something that does not involve the "contacts" content provider?

Is there a way to change the sync settings of a Gmail account programmatically with an Android app? For instance, I'd like to enable/disable syncing of a Gmail account from my app, without the user having to do anything.
I took a look at AccountManager, but that doesn't seem to be the right place to look.

Does anyone know if there is an app which can enable you to change the sound settings on an Android G1? I finally got a headphone adapter yesterday and the sound quality of music was not very good. It might improve things if there were an equaliser or similar available. Does the API even allow that level of control?
