Android :: Widget Show "feels Like" Temperature Of Location
Jul 10, 2010
i haven't found a single widget that will actually show the "feels like" temperature of your location. its pretty annoying because right now where i am, theres a HUGE difference in 'normal' temperature and what the 'feels like' temperature is. does anyone know of a good looking one (aka like the htc widget or beautiful widget) that actually gives you the 'feels like' temperature?

Anyone know of a simple 1X1 widget that will show me the phones temperature in Fahrenheit?
I use my Dinc a lot in the car for hours at a time using GPS, Pandora and maybe other apps. Running all of them can really heat up the phone so I like to keep an eye on it. I can see the temp if I pull the notification bar down using Battery Indicator but I'd like to be able to watch this with just a glance

Can anyone please tell me the name of the app in which you get between a four and seven day forcast as a widget. By that I mean, say for instance the whole week looks like it'll be sunny, the widget will have 4 to 7 suns going across your screen with, I believe, the temperature to each day on the corner of each sun?

I have a fully stock, most recent OTA updated EVO. Lately I can't tell what the temperature is because my weather widget has become bogged down with clouds or sunshine, rain, thunder, etc. icons over the temperature. I can't take a snapshot to post.

I trashed the pre-installed weather widget and downloaded the Weather Channel widget, but it's not refreshing the temperature. This is the same reason I got rid of the pre-installed version. Anyone know why this happens? I also have Advanced Task Killer, could this be the culprit?

The weather widget on my Incredible shows my location correctly, but the actual temperature reading is usually somewhat off of the temp from the weather channel widget (right now it is 7 degrees less). Does anyone know where HTC gets its info from? I like having the temperature displayed under the clock, but not if it is inaccurate. I also compared the HTC temp to a reading off of a wireless window thermometer and it did not agree.

I have found this erroneous behaviour on my phone, please let me know if you have any idea how to resolve it. However, when I open this intent, the gps on the device starts and google maps first displays my location instead of the location in the URI. This happens only the first time you open google maps. If I go back to my app and make the same selection, then the correct position on the map appears.I tried using something like this: geo:0,0?q=*business+near+city, however this doesnt centers the map on a position, but in the nearest address.

I'm trying to show in Android a PopupWindow at the click location.
I read that Android does not support getting the click coordinates for some reason.
I want to do something like the little popup that appears on the contacts on Android 2.1+ when you select a person's icon and a window appears at the row location showing different options to contact that person. Also in the twitter application they do something similar.
I guess it is acting more like a Context Menu, but what I read is that Context Menus cannot be customized. How are this popup windows at location done?

I am writing an app that requires the user's current location (lastknownlocation won't be very helpful) and displays a list of all the closest "items" to them taken from the database.I have got the finding of the closest items working well but only using a hardcoded latitude and longitude location for the time being but now it is time to implement finding the actual location. Can anyone provide an example of how to have the app find the current fine location in the background and have the app wait. I only need the location once not updates as the person moves. I have implemented a location listener however I understand getting a GPS fix can be slow. I have seen other examples using last known location or implementing the location listener which continues to run and update however as my Activity needs the location coordinates before it can display anything the app just crashes. I need to show a Progress Dialog while its searching.
How can I have the locationlistener run once in the background and then remove location updates once it finds the location. I need the rest of the application to wait until it has a GPS location or timeout after say 20-30seconds. I would like a ProgressDialog up so the user knows that something is going on, but it just has to be the spinning loading animation not a percentage or anything. If possible I would like the user to be able to cancel the dialog if they are sick of waiting which then they can search by typing suburb etc instead.I have been trying to do it with threads but it is getting way more complicated than I feel it should be and still not working anyway. On iPhone this is much more simple? Can anyone provide a nice way of doing this, I have been ripping my hair out for a week on this and it is really putting me behind schedule for the rest of the app completion date.

ProgressDialog during location tasks either won't show or force closes - I have tried everything!
I now have it in a Handler with a full 1 second delay (one method another post suggested) but it doesn't show. I simply am stuck. Threads are usually force closing when I use those methods.

I often go for long distance bike rides and wondered whether there an app so if I have an accident or breakdown my wife could log on her PC and see my location. Either a continuous track or maybe I could push a button on my desire which would up load my position at that point in time.

I would like to use My Desire with offline maps and GPs like a satnav eg TomTom. As I understand it Google maps requires the data connection up to load relevant map. This can be expensive when roaming in Europe. So is it possible to obtain maps for memory and use the GPS to show location just like a TomTom.

I followed the tutorial off code.google.com to add widgets to your app. For some reason, when I run the app on the phone for testing, then long click the home screen to add widgets, my widget is not an option. I imagine I am doing something wrong, but I thought I followed the tutorial pretty well. Here is some of my code, please offer a suggestion of why I can't add my widget. BTW i don't care that it doesn't do anything yet, or even if it breaks, I just want to see it as an option first (small steps). Thanks for any help or feedback.

Is it possible to disable the 'my location' setting on the HTC Weather Widget? I frequently go to areas where there is no weather data available and would prefer it to stay on, say, London. But I can't see any way of doing this.

Anyone read impressions regarding build quality? I have the Incredible now and I'm thinking about the Evo and Sprint. One thing that I dislike about the Incredible is the build quality. It is not bad build quality at all but it is a little more plasticky than I would like. The glass also feels very flimsy. Are they using Gorilla Glass on the Evo?

For a widget I am creating for the Android OS, I want the user to first select a certain option from a Spinner. Just like when you add a shortcut to the homescreen.
Is that possible or do you have to start an Activity? If it is possible, can anyone explain how to do it?

Is there a simple 1x1 or 1x2 widget that shows free memory? Not storage memory, but running memory. Like after you run an Auto Killer (like Apollo, or ATK) it shows you how much RAM you now have free. I'd like a widget to display this information on the home screen? All I can seem to find is program storage memory, or SD memory storage, not RAM.

I have tested the standard calender widget and one more that I cant recall the name on. Is there any good widgets in the different Homeapps, like aHome, dxTOP and others?

Why I have to code so much for it. Like, I dont want to care about...the position of the balloon (I just want to assign a geopoint) the layout of a basic balloon (Later on I might want to implement a xml based layout) the number of shown balloons (only display one at a time) the open/close behaviour of the balloon (close, when an other bollon is tabbed)

I have two EVOs at home (mine and the wifes) and both have the same problem, the weather app is set to use the gps location yet it returns the wrong location. The location isn't just off a little bit either, it reports our location as being a city over 160 miles away. I find sometimes the gps reports the location wrong in the maps as well. Is there a way to calibrate the how, and is anyone else experiencing this issue? It doesn't seem to be signal problem as I am in a strong 4g location and when off of 4g always on 3g.
