Android :: Why Did I Make My Nexus One Be Mobile Web Server?

Nov 4, 2010

About my android smartphone web server,I want to share my private files(contents) over the internet.I want to share the private files(contents) on my smartphone with far away friends over the internet.Normally I can upload them on the internet server and let my friends download them. But I don't want share them public. I can't believe the safety and also can't control the server. Most safe way for this demand is to save the files only on the phone and to let friends access to my phone directly. In other words, I don't need any outer server. So I've looked for a smartphone web server, at last I decided to use the iFMW; GoldenPack's mobile web server application. With the iFMW app, I have own internet URL for my Nexus One and now I can share my private files over the internet directly with special friends desired.

I want to share special files to special friends.I don't want everyone who can access into my phone to look at the same files. For example, I'll share my business files only to the relative officers, and also share my fun contents only to the family members like my wife and sons.So I make several sharing folders individual and put the contents separately. Therefore one group members would be able to access only their folder, because every folder has its own different internet URL and access passcode.iFMW app helps me like this fucking demand.

Mar 20, 2010

I am planning to design and write an application which displays all possible restaurants/malls etc around the mobile device. For this, do I send the GPS info to the server and let server do the processing and return the list of all possible restaurants/malls or let the mobile device itself process, find and list that. Please advise. I don't want the mobile device to get any slower.

Android :: How Mobile App Knows To Find It's Server?

Oct 8, 2010

I'm considering how to identify server(s) to an app on a mobile device that utilises a wcf/web service.

(1) I anticipate all going well that I will need to migrate the server between hosts from time to time to handle load. I'd like to be able to do this without service disruption.

(2) I also anticipate that all going well I will want to improve scalability by seperating website hosting and wcf/web service hosting requiring an addressing change on the client. Until the app proves to get traction the server deployment will be shared on the same domain.

Rereleasing the client for this purpose at a glance seems complicated as you can't force updates on consumers and it's non trivial to distinguish between no data connection/server down and a server that's moved.I was thinking this would be a solved problem, so thought to bounce it off the community for better ideas.

Android :: PUSH Tech - SMS From Server To Mobile

problem: server (web server) wants to send data( or some information) to mobile client (android based phone). means simply notify to start work, then mobile start working on specific application. i would like to do a SMS from server to mobile, to start working. buts its not the best idea. as we can assign too an IP to android mobile phone in case of WiFi or USB connectivity. but phone will use GPRS or GSM, so there is no unique IP of Mobile so that we can access mobile phone using Socket Programing.

I have a WHS box which I can connect to via the internet and download my files. When I connect to the server with the default Android browser it shows the site fine, but when I go to download a file (say a .doc file), the file is larger than normal and can't be opened in quickoffice.Yesterday I was trying to download a 28k word document that kept downloading at 158k in size. So what I had to do was find a PC, download the file, send it to myself in gmail and it worked fine.

Such like massager app, client/server framework, using tcp long connection using heart beating packet. Cause TCP connection, so when local network is disable or changed, connection would be disconnected. But to the client, it may not be known right now till the next interaction with the SERVER. Is there a general solution to reconnect automatically when network is available again? For example, a broadcast receiver would be triggered when network connection changed, and reconnect when available? Further more, how to check the network capacity, auto-connect the wanted one cause good bandwidth?

Android :: Stay With Sprint Vs Get Nexus One / With T-mobile?

Jun 16, 2010

I've been stressing out the last few days about it. i have a few choices but i don't know what i should do. a second opinion could help. i just got a evo from sprint last week and to be honest, the phone is absolutely gorgeous. i really love it. the thing is, i'm still in a family plan with my parents on t-mobile which they're paying and my mom weren't happy when she found out i branched off. my contract was already over with t-mobile and i've been doing month to month for a year. so my choice is to keep the evo and pay for sprint or return it since i'm within 30 days and stay with t-mobile. the sad part about t-mobile is that they don't have any good phones beside the nexus one and the upcoming samsung galaxy s which i don't like the look of it at all. i'm thinking of ordering the nexus one through google but i'm not sure if it's worth 529 dollars plus tax. i also heard it has a few problems so that kinda push me away from it. anyway, what do you guys think i should do? both sprint and t-mboile has good coverage here. i just find out t-mobile has hspa+ which is a nice plus(no pun intended.) and sprint is going to have 4g here soon. i don't know about t-Mobile's customer service but sprint is really nice to me. i don't know what to do lol. i have a job so i can afford the evo and sprint but with t-mobile i'll pay less since i got the family plan and i'm contract free. so android forum members. tell me what i should do?

Dec 1, 2012

I'm trying to set up a VPN connection between a Linux Mint 10 PC (server) and a Nexus 7 (client).

All I'm getting so far is a "Connecting" status from the Nexus 7, followed after a few seconds by a "Disconnected" one.

As it is my first attempt at setting up a VPN (both on the server and client sides) I was wondering if there was a log file generated by Android on the Nexus that would give me a clue as to where I'm going wrong.

A similar file on the server side

Nexus :: Better Way To Make Android Not Take Match?

Jan 27, 2010

When typing on the keyboard, Android suggests words that match what's typed so far. Usually that's useful. But if I get to the end of the word and none of the suggestions match, it's quite annoying. Android has one matching word listed in red, and when I hit the space bar it auto-matches to the red word. If I'm typing a name or an abbreviation, I have to backspace to undo the match. Is there a better way to make Android not take the match?

Nexus :: Image Compression On T-Mobile

Feb 7, 2010

After doing a search around, found nothing on this issue. Love my phone! Its great. The problem I have is possibly a little ahead of its time, but here goes. The resolution of the OLED screen is so good, that whereas historically on smartphones, the automatic image 'de-resolution' by my GSM 3G carrier (in this case T-Mobile) in their efforts to speed up the downloads would not be so noticeable on the phone screen, I can't help but see the opposite is true now.For example, on the BBC News website, as you zoom in to look at an image, you cannot see the detail as T-Mobile is compressing the image too far. But I know the Nexus 1 can handle much better that what is being sent through. The question is simply, is there a work around (historically, through dongles and through a PC, no problem) to allow me to either selectively get the full resolution image, or alternatively, is there a browser that allows me to select images individually for full download so I get the full detail that I want?

Nexus :: Unable To Connect To Mobile Network

May 1, 2010

My N1 will not reconnect to a mobile network if it has been sitting for a few hours in a no-coverage area, such as a building. I cannot get it to reconnect, even after refreshing the network search in settings>wireless and networks>mobile networks. This action only leaves me with no result or a message saying that there was an error in searching or connecting to mobile networks. The only solution is to restart the phone. Every time I try to turn the phone off after this error has occurred, the shutdown sequence hangs until either I become frustrated and do a battery pull, or it automatically restarts itself.

Furthermore, the phone used to give me an error notification saying that the phone does not have carrier service. Now, it does not. I tried uninstalling all my programs and nothing has worked for me. I'm considering putting on the cyanogen ROM to see if it would fix this error, but I am hesitant to void my warranty. It's a pretty serious problem as I'm very frequently in a building where I don't get service. It's quite frustrating to have to wait to reconnect to a mobile network once I leave the building and hope that the error didn't occur or have to do a battery pull every time I realize that the phone simply won't reconnect.

Nexus :: Can't Make/receive Calls And Texts

May 11, 2010

I rooted my phone successfully last night and installed MoDaCo.

Everything worked OK. Today I tried Cyanogen and it seemed to work OK. I've tried to install a couple of themes. One worked and one didn't.

I don't know when, but my phone will now not send or receive texts or calls. I still have a 3G data connection (back to MoDaCo) and the internet and Market work fine.

I really don't know what to do. The recovery image "recovery-ra-nexus..." seems to have disappeared from the bootloader. The phone isn't bricked so I guess that there is a way out of this?

SO I've restored my first Nand Backup which is the recovery image ra-nexus-v1.7.0.

It quoted restore complete. I backed up and rebooted. Weird thing is it boots up into Cyanogen ROM!!! And now I have no service, NOTHING!
