Android :: Is There Weather App That Doesn't Run Constantly In Background?
Feb 11, 2010I really like the Weather Channel App and Weatherbug, but they both constantly start themselves and run in the background no matter what my settings are.I don't need my phone to update weather in the background as I don't check it that often.I just want something that I can open, check the weather and CLOSE really close.Is there a decent Weather App that will let me close it and not run on its own?Seems to me that its a common problem with apps, that many devs don't properly shut them down or force them to run unnecessarily.

Aug 12, 2010I don't know if this is the right group, but my ADT keeps crashing while editing layout files. I'm not positive, but I think it might have something to do with the background images that I'm attempting to use, as they are not rendered in the preview at all. Is this the appropriate group to discuss the ADT tools? If so, does anyone else have problems getting background images to display?

Mar 25, 2010I'm running the new 2.1 leak and I've been noticing the Amazon Mp3 app is always running. I've never launched it and I keep having to manually kill it through running services. I'm also noticing Shop Savvy is having the same relaunch issue, but I can always uninstall that one, unfortunately unless we get root we're stuck w/ the amazon mp3.

May 27, 2010I seem to have noticed when I start the day. Use Astro File Manager's Prcoess Viewer to shutdown every task on my phone to conserve battery. All that is usually left running is Dialer, Android system, and android keyboard. I have used APN droid to shut off the internet and I use the power widget to turn off syncs and GPS. Even so at the end of the day, I check the process manager to see that maps and my uploads are running even though I have not used the phone. I was just wondering if there is a reason for this and if so does it affect battery life?

However sometimes when I pull it up I find that things like Sprint Navigation, Qik, Voice Dialer, and sometimes others are running without me pulling them up. My question is, how do I keep these apps from doing this, because they kill my battery when they come on and I don't know it?

On the BB I could load Google Maps (including Latitude) to keep my position updated on Google Latitude online (I use it when I go riding on my motorcycle to give my wife a way to check if I'm still moving (= not dead)). Even if I shut down Maps, I could elect to have Latitude run in the background, so it would still update my position. How do I do this in Android? When I 'exit' Maps, it shuts it down, including Latitude, as far as I can tell. Can Android run Latitude in the background, or do I need to keep Maps open all the time?

Aug 4, 2010Every so often I check my memory with Advanced Task Manager and I see certain applications running in the background and my available memory has dropped quite a bit. Now I am using the HTC Incredible so I still have about 127 MB free, however what concerns me the most is why the programs are even launching themselves in the first place. I could see some application having to start themselves, like a twitter client or an email client, however one of the programs that seems to be launching itself is the eBay app. I installed the app in case I wanted to view an ebay listing however I never use the program and it still seems to launch itself. Is this an example of a poor application design (i.e. ebay app) or is there some other reason these programs are launching themselves?

After a little bit of time does the system close them out? What happens to them? I have a Sprint Evo and I don't see a way to close them out. I know that battery life can always be helped, and I would hate to leave them running all day just sucking the life out of the phone if they don't have to be.
