Android :: Way To Make Droid Show Incoming Call Dialog?

Is it possible to make android show the incoming call dialog. Like forcing a PHONE_STATE_RINGING.
I've got a PhoneStateListener to see call state changes, when a call is incoming I make my app show a toast notification to display caller data which I retrieve from a search service. Due to toasts limitation, i would like to show a dialog instead which allows me to show the notification longer and customize it with imageviews etc...
The problem is that when I implement the dialog and execute the show method in the state listener class, my application crashes.
Does anyone know how to implement this and have an example? It seems like WhitePages have solved this with their Caller ID app.

How can I show a window containing few lines of text during the phone ringing period? My app in running in background at this time.Toasts won't work because they last at most 4 seconds.

can any one guide how to work around for that.
I've build an AlertDialog which shows three items. code...
I've searched on stackoverflow/the inet but the solution that was meantioned there was to pass the applicationContext of the Activity to the Dialog (which i did in this case, i saved an reference of the activitys applicationContext in a private variable: myActivity.savedApplicationContext
I declared a WebView activity in the manifest like this. code...
When I start this activity within my main activity, only the title of the dialog, containing the apps name, is visible but not the WebView. If I add a TextView to the LinearLayout, it is shown as well, but still the WebView is missing.
If I don't apply android:theme="@android:style/Theme.Dialog" in the manifest, the WebView is displayed.
Why is that and how can I show a WebView in a dialog?
I want to develop one call control application on android. As we know android sdk does not provide any API which block incoming call due to security reason. Is there any possibility to block incoming call using android open source api;s?

I will be using this incoming call data to record the call or for the purpose of call streaming from my application. I read Audio manager and Telephony manager class provided by Android , but I could get an API which can give the data of incoming call.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI want the incoming message to show up on the home page when it is first received, like the iphone does, it covers a good portion of the screen, for a few seconds even when the phone is asleep, then it goes away until you wake it up. I tried Handcent and I'm now using ChompSMS. With Chomp you get this tiny little ticker at the top of the screen, that is all. Is it possible to have that feature with this phone?

View 2 Replies View RelatedSo the other day i got a call and i pulled the phone out of my pocket and tried to slide to answer and nothing happned. I tried to slide it to drop the call and nothing happened. I then mashed a bunch of buttons in frustration and think i rebooted my phone. It did it again to me today, though after about 10 seconds it finally allowed me to answer the phone. I have weatherbug going without GPS as that killed the battery, also have pocket empires going today.
View 4 Replies View RelatedVery occasionally, when I get an incoming call the contact picture and info shows up, the slider shows at the bottom of the screen, but no matter what I do I can't slide it to unlock it. Has anyone else had this problem?I'm relatively sure it's a hardware problem with the touchscreen, but wanted to check to see if anyone else has seen this problem.
View 1 Replies View RelatedOften my Droid will only ring one time for an incoming call. If the call is left unanswered it is auto-answered after a "normal" amount of time. But I can watch the screen of my quiet Droid after the initial ring and count the seconds until it's auto-answered with my recorded greeting. It should be ringing during that time.
It seems to do this randomly, though it's really tough to troubleshoot and tell definitively. I sat for two hours with my wife's Droid, my laptop phone program and our regular house phone and got consistently inconsistent results!
I've yanked every phone call specific app and reinstalled them systematically, rebooting each time. I've taken a look at system apps to see if there is a conflict. I've also looked at (and pulled & reinstalled) audio setting apps looking for a conflict.
I've changed ring tones to MP3 clips, and while they do play in their entirety, they usually repeat and they are not. I've even done a hack to the system/build.prop file that changes the delay before the phone rings.
I just can't seem to figure out what's going on. Anyone have any ideas?
I would like to intercept outgoing calls and pass them to a VOIP application. I see that the Google Voice application has a feature for displaying a question before each call is actually initiated. It provides the user with the choice:
Initiate call via Google Voice
Initiate call via standard call
I would like a way to do something similar with my application (so that not all calls have to be routed through it). At the moment, I can intercept CALL events via a BroadcastReceiver, however, these are not allowed to open dialogs (thus making it possible to display the choice).
What is the best way of achieving this goal?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI use Google Voice (love it) primarily because of it's visual voicemail on my Droid. I do have a Google Voice number, and I'm trying to decide whether to set the Droid app to "make calls using Google Voice" or not.
I have no problem with giving out a different number, and my placed calls seeing the GV number in caller ID.
My question is, does this affect how the call is actually connected, from a quality standpoint? I tired a call both ways, and the sound quality seemed a little bit different. But then, I am an obsessive compulsive weirdo.
Is there any difference in call quality or routing between making a native Verizon call and a Google Voice call on Droid? (Like, does Google voice actual use 3G to connect to Google server over the internetz, then place the phone call?)
When I'm on a call and a 2nd call comes in, my phone doesn't ring or anything. Is there anyway to change this so that I know when I have a call waiting without having to look at the screen (which is usually pressed up against my ear)?
