Android : Way To Get A Notifications Light App?
Sep 4, 2010
My MyTouch has several lights i would like to control for status feedback and notifications. What drves me nutz, though, is while my trackball would light up when i got a message or something, this phone would do nothing after the initial notification. My last two phones had a light that would keep flashing until i checked the device. The ones i had before would continue to sound off. What can i use to have something light up every so many seconds until i checked the phone?

I'm using the new US version of HTC Hero (I believe it's running 1.5) and I noticed the following pretty annoying problem that I cannot seem to tweak.
If a new calendar event or alarm come in, the screen briefly lights up to show what the message is, and then turns off after a short while. That way, I don't have to turn it on, pull down the protective screen, then the notification bar, etc.
However, with email, SMS, gtalk, and the like, the screen doesn't light up. There are settings for having a sound or vibrate, neither of which light up the screen. When I press the Menu or power button, the new notification sits happily in both the lower part of the screen and the notification area.

I am so confused on notifications. This is what I see happening by default.
SMS/MMS - Trackball
Exchange Email - Trackball
Gmail - Green LED
Google Talk - Green LED
Missed Call - Green LED
In my Settings --> Sound & Display --> Notifications --> Notification flash ... everything is checked for Trackball.
I'm curious is to how this is working for everyone else. I wish the trackball would only light up for SMS/MMS.

With the HTC Magic I rarely use the trackball for anything. My biggest benefit from the trackball is the light flash on certain notifications.
It will blink when you missed a call, have a new voicemail or have a new text message.
Does anyone know if there is a way to change these settings? I would like it to flash on any event in the notification bar (like unread emails).
The sensitivity also seems a little low... are there any apps to increase the sensitivity of the trackball?

I want Gmail notifications to show in the notification bar, but I don't want the green blinking light on my Droid because it's woken me up sometimes at night while in the dock. How do I disable the green blinking light while leaving all the other notifications?

These packages are alternative gapps. These Gapps should improve performance. On top of that all apps are up to date (like YouTube). Ultra Light version will also remove unnecessary preinstalled apps like yaam, DSP Audio Manager and so on (and some more gapps of course).

I accidently sat got my evo into some water on our bathroom the other night and now my phone is acting weird. I disconnected the battery and the phone and allowed them to sit in bags of rice for a few days to draw out the mositure. I turned the phone back on and found the camera is no longer so the water must of wicked in through there, but what is troubling me is the orange charge light comes on as well as a red indicator light on the other side.

My only complaint about the Droid is the seeming lack of options for notifications.
Is there a way, or an app, that would allow you to assign different notifications to emails vs texts vs missed calls?
Also, does anyone know if there's a way to set the phone to re-notify you periodically if you have a notification that has not been looked at? I tend to leave my phone sitting on my desk at work and would like it to let me know if I missed a call or text while I was away from my desk.
Ideally I'd like to silence email notifications, but have text and missed call notifications with unique ring tones for each, and I'd like the phone to renotify me every 10 minutes or so if I have a text or missed call waiting for me.

Update:I got a app called "GMail Label Notifier"...it serves the same purpose and is really much more flexible since you can assign unique alerts to each trigger You just need to setup filters in Gmail to apply a label. I have been using it a week or so now and it seems to work great.
I have moved from a BB Tour to the HTC Incredible and really like the Android OS.
A few things I really rely on though I can't seem to replicate on Android. The most important is the "Level 1" or high importance message tagging. With BIS I could setup a filter so that any emails with a specific word or words in the subject line or from a specific email address caused a different alert on the BB when received.
Also, I can't find many options for different notifications like a specific one for emails, another for SMS, another for voice mails, etc.

Trying to activate the LED to use as a flashlight on the HTC EVO 4G. I know this is possible because there at least a couple applications in the Android Market (LED Desire Light, Tesla) that do this.
I've tried using setFlashlightEnabled, which I'm told works on the Droid. On my Nexus One with Froyo I used setFlashMode to set the mode to FLASH_MODE_TORCH, which works fine. But I can't figure out how to get the same effect on the HTC EVO 4G.

When I was using android api 5 (sdk 2.0) I was able to show light notification in the trackball of my nexus one: mNotificationManager.notify("my tag",0, notif); Now, I'm developping on android api 3 (sdk1.5) and this method is no more available so I use: mNotificationManager.notify(0, notif); But the light notification is not shown...........

I'm having some troubles with the light sensor on the Nexus One.
AFAIK, the proper way to read the measures of a sensor is registering a SensorListener through the SensorManager and then wait for the readings on the onSensorChanged method.
My main problem is that the light sensor don't seem very accurate (the readings jump a lot) and I don't get the first reading until the lighting conditions change. I have to change the phone orientation, go outdoors or hide the sensor with my fingers or otherwise I don't receive any value. Is there any way to increase the accuracy or, even more important, to force an initial reading?
BTW, I have tried with SensorManager.SENSOR_DELAY_FASTEST but I haven't noticed any change.

I have an application that targets the 1.5 framework and uses the default light theme. When using a tab widget with this theme, the tab images are barely visible, and the tab captions are quite impossible to discern, except for the currently active tab.In the default dark theme these tabs come through quite clearly, but this is not a solution I'd be very happy with. Is there a simple setting I can set, that sets up the tab widget for better visibility in light themes, or would I have to tamper with images and text styles manually?

When you talk on the phone in Android the light sensor is working. If you cover the top left corner of the screen, the display turns black and you can't see anything. I would like to cancel that feature and I tried working with Android Sensors and the Light Sensor but it is not working. This is my code:
senMgrLight=(SensorManager)getSystemService(Context.SENSOR_SERVICE);
senMgrLight.registerListener(onSensorListener,
senMgrLight.getDefaultSensor(Sensor.TYPE_LIGHT),
SensorManager.SENSOR_DELAY_FASTEST);

i am starting to develop Android applications and i would like to know if there are any tips for creating lightweight applications. This is my first attempt to write applications on a mobile platform but i hope that my experience in programming will help.I have in mind the "Better, Faster, Lighter Java" book, but will this be "the" answer to my question? Are there any tips specific for the Android Platform that will allow me to build lightweight applications?

Is there a way to get these two values anytime? Like when a user runs my program, I would like to grab the current values right away instead of having to wait for them to change.
