Android :: Way To Exchange Data Between Computer - Phone Over Wifi?

Jul 3, 2010

I have just started doing some Android development. One of the things that I would like to add to the app the I'm working on, is data exchange between a desktop computer and an android phone. Think of it like syncing data between Microsoft Outlook and the phone when it is connected to the wifi network. (Stanza on the iPhone is another good example)

The application that is running on the desktop is written in C# (to make it more interesting ;-)). I'm trying to avoid using a WebService, since this requires something like IIS.

Are there any libraries that can help me with this, or is it simple enough to do using the Java Socket functionalities?

HTC EVO 4G :: Activesync Error Occurred On Computer Running Exchange Server 2007

Jun 11, 2010

Yesterday I noticed that my corporate email (i.e., Activesync) were no longer being synced to my HTC Evo (running Android 2.1). A little troubleshooting revealed the following: I could still send emails from the Evo via the synced account. My synced calendar and contacts continued to updated without error. I believe my company is running Exchange 2007, but I am not sure (and since the help desk does not officially support syncing to non-Blackberry phones, I doubt they will help me details or troubleshoot). In any case, a little Googling revealed that: This error is not specific to the HTC Evo (it happens on other Android phones).

A few folks reported that the error occurred seven days after Activesync was initially configured on their Android phone, and would reoccur approximately every seven days. In my situation, the only unusual item to note was that my mailbox had reached capacity on the Exchange server sometime during the period when my phone stopped syncing. However, freeing up space in my mailbox did not resolve the problem. In the end, I resolved the problem by deleting the Activesync account on the Evo and re-creating it. After doing that, all emails synced successfully.

Sprint HTC Hero :: Error Occurred On Computer Running Exchange Server

Oct 15, 2009

I am having the following issue with Exchange. When I setup the phone initially, I was able to synch my email, contacts, and calendar just fine. However, I started noticing that my emails had a delayed vs my computer. My Hero was syncing only every 5 minutes or so (I do have selected the option to get emails as they arrive). Eventually, I went to settings, data synchronization, exchange activesync, and there is an error message that says 'Error occurred on the computer running the exchange server'.

It also seems that it hasn't synced the contacts and calendar in a while, apparently it stops after failing to sync email. The funny thing is that I am actually do getting new emails just not as they arrive, but as I said before, every 5 mins or so. Another thing is that If I click on Synch now. I do not get that error message and it syncs mail, contacts and calendar just fine, but again when it tries to do it on its own, the error message comes up again.

HTC Hero :: Data Useage - How To Know If Phone Is Accessing Internet Through WiFi Or Not

Oct 2, 2009

I just got a Hero, its really cool, but I'm worried about how much data this thing is going to eat up. I've got a 500MB limit, but I dont really know how long that will last. So heres a few questions

How do I know if the phone is accessing the internet through WiFi or not? Obviously WiFi doesnt count towards the limit, so I want to know that I'm using it as often as possible.

Do widgets on the home page count towards your data limit? I've got a weather widget, facebook, bbc news, email, all getting their info from the internet. Is this going to be raking up the MBs while the phone is just sat in my pocket?

Is there a number I can ring to see how much data I've used? I'm with Orange. A number to call to check my texts and minutes would be helpful, too.

Android :: Use HTC To Connect Computer To An Excisting WiFi Network?

Feb 8, 2010

Okay, here's the deal. I have a stable WiFi network, an Android phone (HTC Tattoo), and a computer. What I don't have is a way to get said computer to connect to the WiFi network, seeing that I don't have a wireless card.

The question I want to get an answer to is simply this: Is there any possibility to use my android phone as a wireless card, thus get my computer online? Or do I have to go out to get a wireless card? I don't want to use 3G, seeing that it's slow, and the WiFi net is included in my rent.

And then use wifi for data?In other words, can I place my at&t simcard, which only has phone service (no dataplan), in an unlocked android smartphone (e.g., N1) and have a functioning cellular phone? Is there anything that I can only download over a cellular dataplan (as opposed to a wifi connection)? General :: After Turn On Mobile Data / WiFi Phone Screen Starts To Blink And Turns Off

Jan 10, 2014

Mobile phone. I bought it year and a half ago, and have changed operating systems few times (custom roms). Now I have Pristine JB Slim custom ROM, i have installed it 1-2 months ago (cant remember exactly), and everything was okay for first half period, but then it started to crush after mobile data/wifi was turned on.

When I turn on MD/WIFi, its usually okay till 76% of battery, but then screen starts to blink for few seconds and turns off immediately after. When I turn it on again, it turns off again after 1-2 minutes, and sometimes even warns me that i have to charge it cause battery has only few % left (most of time just 1). And I have to charge it again to work normally (well, until it starts to go crazy again )

Before i start to install other roms again. So. Is it faulty battery, bad ROM or something else?

Android : Create A Sqlite Database That I Can Manually Input Data From My Computer

Nov 30, 2009

I have certain needs that I am having trouble making an app for. I was hoping to be able to create a sqlite database that I can manually input data from my computer and search the data on my droid. I wanted to set up tags or full data search within each sqlite database object so and pull up a listing of best matches for the given search term.

The use for it is that I work on an Air Force Base and my job is very broad. I wanted to custom build an app that I could list all of the information pertaining to my job and be able to search it as I work to find solutions to problems way quicker than we are doing it now.

Is there any such app. I've been trying to create my own and it looks like it would be a mix between notepad and searchable dictionary but not quite.

HTC Desire :: Exchange Doesn't Like Changing Between Wifi - 3G

Apr 27, 2010

I've had my HTC Desire since last Thursday and this issue has driven me nuts. I even tried a factory reset but that didn't help.

It seems that if I am on WiFi OR 3G my phone will work fine and will sync with the exchange server no problem. But if I switch from one to the other, it won't. Ie I am at home in the morning, works on WiFi, I leave for the office then it stops. I have to reset the phone by turning it off and back on again to get it to start working again. No changes in settings, just a reset.

Ive tried all matter of things, re WiFi off, 3G on, leaving both on, changing the order I switch them on or off etc. Setting it to push email, manual check etc. The only thing that makes it work is a reset. Anyone else having an issue like this? Found any solutions or even other people having a similar issue?

I was having an offline chat with my system administrator and he told me that they have blocked something to avoid IP pool full issue ( new users were not able to connect to office wifi as almost everyone was using two IP, one on smartphone and one on laptop).

Question is how enhanced email client is able to sync? Can i make some changes in default android email client to make it sync.? My Edge connection is too slow to download emails and can't switch to 3g as it is a company provided connection.
