Android :: Google Maps Street View
Oct 27, 2008When I'm at work, street view can be fun for filler time. Or if I'm looking to go on vacation it's handy to see what's around the area.
But really tho what are you guys using street view for on your phone other than to show you friends who own Iphones how cool it it? Are there functions that I'm missing?
To me it almost seems useless for a handheld device. Even if it moved real time as your walking all it will show you is what you would see right now ... only 6 month to a year ago.
So my question .... is anyone using street view for anything useful .... or am I missing something.

May 18, 2010It used to work but now it has gone missing. GM has updated to 4.2.0 (#4210) and i wonder if that removed it?
It's not in the Layer menu. If I hold finger down on a location it doesn't come up in a menu from that either So how to I get it back?
Android :: Highlight A Street Using Google Maps API?
Oct 11, 2010Is there any possibility to highlight a street using the Google Maps API? I want to set a color on a street, similar as it is done in the navigation function of Google Maps.
If there is no generic implementation for this - and I guess there probably isn't - is there any good/simple solution for this? The only thing I could think of was reverse geocoding coordinates and see if those coordinates resolve to the street I want to color and if they did I would then draw some color on to those points. But this is a really ugly solution.

Samsung EPIC 4G :: New Version Of Google Maps And Street View
Sep 9, 2010Per the title, there are new versions of Maps and Street View in the market. The Maps update is just to add walking directions I think and the street view was a more polished update. Street view doesn't work after install, at least on my Epic. I open maps, pick a road and long-click on it. A balloon pops up saying "Loading address" for about 30 seconds then give me a pop-up error that says "Data Connection Lost, Retrying" But, data is working just fine on the phone everywhere else. Try rebooting the phone after install, it helped. Still some errors but much better than before. It is awesome when it works. Try compass mode.

I want it to be: "Turn left in 500 m"

Android :: Offline Topographic Maps?
Jun 24, 2010I'm somewhat unfamiliar with the droid incredible's GPS features. I know it uses A-GPS, but I've been led to believe that the use of cell towers is only to facilitate the acquisition of the almanac or when GPS signal is unavaible altogether. I'd like to use my phone's GPS while camping, at which point I'll be well away from cell coverage. Will I still be able to get a GPS signal. If so can anyone reccomend a topographic mapping software that I can download maps from to my phone?

Nov 24, 2008I don't currently have a data plan. Since I'm on WiFi 95% of the time, I don't plan on getting one. The only thing I haven't been able to do easily (without a data plan) is use Google Maps while driving/walking.If I load the maps before leaving a WiFi hotspot, my location is tracked and I can pan around the map. Of course, as soon as I want to view another uncached portion of the map, I can't.Maps are small, and it would be perfect if I could cache maps for a certain area - say everything within 100 mi of my house. Mar 14, 2013i am about to travel. I would need a working offline maps with GPS/navigation service. I have tried Google offline maps but it doesn't work with "direction" so I find it kinda useless. Navigon is the closest thing to what I want but I can't download the south america maps from play store (they say it's not available for my country). I am thinking to buy NDrive considering they use the same database (navteq).

Background: With Google Maps 6.9.0 it is possible to make certain maps areas available offline. As for Europe, this seems to be dependant upon where you attempt to make this happen. Most of Croatia (except Zagreb) seems to be unavailable, same goes for most of Italy except major cities.
