Android :: Apps Not Able To Edit Email Docs / Send Edited Docs?
Oct 6, 2010I am new Android user and very happy with HTC Desire. However, frustrated that common Office apps not able to edit e-mailed docs, or send edited docs. Have looked at Quick Office; Documents To Go; & Office Suite Pro. Anybody know of a suitable app - this seems like a significant limitation to me. Adam

Aug 10, 2009In the Web When we apply the Map Keys, we need sumbit the URL of our sites. In the Google APIs Add-on , we need the MD5 of our soft to get the Map keys. but here is a big question.
1. MD5 is easy to be changed.
2. First I got the MD5 of my app ,and then submit, but when I add the new keys, if the MD5 is changed, there will have the problems of the martch.

Android :: Driving Directions Using Google Map APIs
Feb 19, 2009I am developing maps application which has to support driving directions and route search and creation. But there is no API support in Android for this.
So i want to use google map APIs instead of Android APIs, Are there any APIs available for driving directions in google. If yes, What are those APIs, How can i use those APIs with Http request/response.
I read some where that earlier googlenav package was there in Android SDK, but it is now removed. May I know the reason for removal of this package, or When can i expect it to come back with fixed version of googlenav in Android? Looking forward to your reply.

Sep 22, 2010I'm configuring a new machine for Android development and moving my current project over. I did a fresh install of all the Android tools and SDKs, and under "build targets", the Google APIs' target supports Android 2.2. Of course I need 1.5 as the base build target. My project doesn't build when I select that because the Google Maps stuff from maps.jar isn't there. In fact, after I did my full install I can't find maps.jar anywhere on my new machine. Is this jar file still required for Google Maps integration, or is it history? I'm using Eclipse 3.5. I guess I'd presume there would be a "google apis" for Android 1.5 build target. I'm thinking my install must be hosed; but maybe it's my understanding.. :)

I can't seem to successfully use the GData Java client libraries in an Android app. I notice that there used to be some GData access classes in the Wireless packages that have been removed. Should I be using some map data classes in the com.google.android.maps classes I'm not seeing? I started to go down the path of accessing data through raw http calls, but it's a beating.

Nov 1, 2009I've been reading the Terms of Service for the Google APIs, both Maps and AJAX APIs. I have questions regarding future consequences of using these APIs in mobile apps that get distributed, hopefully, to many thousands or millions of devices.
Both say that the services must be available for free, so I'm assuming that means you cannot charge a fee for an Android app that uses these services, unless you arrange something special with Google. Which appears to be Google Maps API Premier, an advanced service that uses a page-view-counter-based calculation to determine charges, and is not cheap. Which pretty much says you'd need to charge a subscription fee if you're going to charge at all. If you don't charge now and suddenly get hit with a bill from Google, your free app must remain free (according to Android Terms) so you're out of luck? I suppose it might be possible to include a Terms of Service with the application that says the user assumes all responsibility for any charges related to use of the Google APIs, but that doesn't seem likely to succeed. I think it would be difficult to manage. I also suppose that you could ask Google to block requests that use your API key until you can get a new version out with a fee attached.
Google also says they could charge for the use of the API in the future. This is stated specifically in the AJAX APIs doc, and indirectly in the Maps doc (Google can change the terms at any time). Since the API key that is used when calling APIs belongs to the Android developer, that tells me we could potentially be on the hook for Google charges. The Terms say that we can decide to stop using the APIs. Which is fairly easy when you're running a web site, much different when your application is deployed to thousands or millions of devices. Especially if you've distributed the application for free, and with an expiration date as required of later than October 22, 2033.
I'm nervous now about using Google APIs in Android apps and wondered if anyone else has thought about this. Should Google APIs be avoided? At least until developers have some legal protection?
Android :: Integrating With Google Docs
Jul 8, 2009I am attempting to integrate with Google Docs.(At the moment just trying to get a list of documents). I have issued the ClientLogin request and get an authorization token.I can tell the authorization key is working because if I do not pass that header, I get a 403 instead. Any reason why I would be getting a page not found? I am lost and not sure what else to try.I am not using the java client libraries since I am running on Android and want to keep it lightweight.

So far I have an application that authenticates with the services and displays a list of user documents. When the user selects a document another query is made for the documents itself. A request for txt, html, rtf and doc files works well, however when I request a spreadsheet in either .csv or .xsl format the result is unexpected.

Great news - it now will sync with Google Documents!GooMemo - Android Notes application.The developer had originally planned that this would be part of a paid-for premium version, but very kindly he has released it for free.For those of us Palm refugees who miss having memos synced between handheld and desktop I think this is the only application that does it properly. I haven't played with it very much yet, but it seems to work very well. In Google Documents all your memos are put into a spreadsheet with a different sheet for each category and each memo on its own row. This is maybe not the prettiest of options, but it makes it all very transparent, and easy to export your notes in CSV form if you want to move them elsewhere. The only slight irritation I've had is that it won't remember my Gmail password and I have to rekey it each time I want to sync.

Feb 25, 2010Im using a Hero and was disappointed that I cant zoom in when viewing my presentation in Google Docs mobile using the default browser. When I pinch zoom or double tap, the control buttons on the slide enlarge but the slide stays the same size also, I found out that if I turned off javascript in the browser settings, I can zoom in the slide as usual but then the control buttons stop working.

Sep 8, 2010Ok, so this is more of an Android thing than Inc, but the two things that I think are still sorely lacking are support for Google Docs, and some form of Google virtual drive (like DropBox). On the Docs front, I realize there's GDocs, but since Google Docs is a Google initiative, it'd be nice to have an official app. And on the storage front, it'd be great to have access to the same storage that I have with picasa, Gmail, and google docs, as a desktop accessible drive, with an android component.Anyone know of any solutions other than GDocs and DropBox to achieve these.

Sep 9, 2010My documents show up in the goggle docs app, however when I click it to open the document is blank. This is the case for every document I have. I just checked on my home computer and it's still there, however why doesn't it appear on my phone? I even went to the Google doc website on my phone and every document was blank. I tried restoring w/ titanium and didn't have any luck with that. I tried opening the application and clearing data, however after reassigning my accounts I still had blank documents. 1. Eclipse > Preferences > Android, I see a lot of "Target Name" like Android 1.1 - Android 2.1
However, in the book that I'm reading, I'm also supposed to see a "Target Name" called "Google APIs". I don't see that. Is that a separate install?

I've looked into the Google Docs procedures for uploading from a Web Service. They require first authenticating the user and retrieving an AuthSub authorization to be used in a following POST request (including the AuthSub token) to actually upload the doc. This is easy from a Web Service that can guarantee a URL to return the AuthSub to, but how about on a mobile phone? Currently thinking that I'll use UrlConnection, use getHeader(String) to grab the AuthSub, then build the entire document dynamically like this:
