Motorola Droid :: Does Google Docs Backup My Data?
Aug 1, 2010
I have a spreadsheet that I edit daily. For some reason my data from the last 8 days is lost even though I know I had it was up to date 3 days ago. Is there a way to view this spreadsheet on google docs from 3 days ago so at least I can retrieve that data?

My documents show up in the goggle docs app, however when I click it to open the document is blank. This is the case for every document I have. I just checked on my home computer and it's still there, however why doesn't it appear on my phone? I even went to the Google doc website on my phone and every document was blank. I tried restoring w/ titanium and didn't have any luck with that. I tried opening the application and clearing data, however after reassigning my accounts I still had blank documents. The title of all 15 documents shows up, but it's all blank

I DLed Titanium Backup, but it wasn't obtaining root access. I read here that I probably need to update to a newer version of BB. After a bit of a fight, I finally managed to get BB 0.4 onto my Droid. I figured I was safe b/c I have Lookout, which also backs up data. Yeah, it backs up contacts and pix, that's it. So here I am w/ a nice, shiny new rom, and a completely wiped phone.
Now, I know my old info is still there. I know I could just recover into my last version. But then I wouldn't be on this rom. Is there any way for me to get that info on here, or do I have to do everything manual? Or could I restore the old version, and not need to do a wipe when flashing the new rom?
Man, no matter what I good I start to feel about myself w/ what I've already learned from you guys, I'm quickly reminded that I'm barely scratching the surface.

Im trying to do the backing up of my application's data into the Google Servers.. For doing this i've implemented a BackupAgent in my code and i included this in the Android Manifest file and "Meta-data" ( Got after registered my Application's package with the Android Backup Service.) When i run the application to do the backup this is not performing the backup.. Im using Nexus one device(connected to WIFI also). why it is not calling my BackupAgent's onBackup() method?? Am i missing some thing, to include in the Android manifest file or some where in the program?

So I'm wondering about the best way to backup apps and data before installing new roms since it usually involves a full system+data wipe. Right now I use Titanium Backup and then restore all user apps when I have the new Rom loaded. While this works pretty well, I still have to go back and change all my settings, set up my accounts, etc. Shouldn't there be some way to preserve this data? Also very frustrating is that I have to re add all my widgets in Launcherpro. Any way to get a real backup of that too? The process isn't too bad right now, but as more and more Roms come for the droid x, I'd rather not have to repeat the setup process every time.

Does anyone know if the VZW Backup application can send contacts to the Droid? I'm currently using a non smartphone that uses VZW Backup to back up my contacts on the phone online somewhere. I don't know if the Droid is compatible with the VZW Backup app tho.

I have a question regarding restoring data after flashing to a new ROM (Bugless Beast) via a nandroid backup. I know I have the update.zip option, but that seems to introduce issues for some that I want to avoid. Now, I know I have a few options. I can batch backup apps and data with Titanium Backup, then wipe, install the new build, and then restore via Titanium. Or, I can do a nandroid backup of my phone, wipe, install the new build, and then restore only the data partition of my first backup. My question is, are either of these methods any different from just using the update.zip version of BB? For example, when I upgraded from BB .7.8 to 1.0, I lost root and had to do a full wipe and I just manually reinstalled everything. Will doing the data partition restore or titanium backup restore result in the same issues?

I have installed UD8 for about a week now. But ever since I have flashed some kernels (slayers 1100lv, chevys 1100 lv, p31200) I have not had the stability nor the quickness that the original 800 stock kernel gave.
I made a nandroid backup b4 flashing those roms..so my question is this: Do i have to wipe cache/data before i flash my nandroid backup? Or can i just flash it w/o doing any extra steps?

I run the risk of getting flamed for this... but I deem it a worthy thread, as things are constantly changing. I haven't found an up-to-date thread that has satisfied me yet.
I recently joined the Android community with my purchase of the Moto Droid. After a few days, I became interested in the rooting process and gave it a go... upgrading to Froyo. There have been several ROMs I've tried out, but I'm very hesitant to try more due to backups.
Will somebody provide me (in words or a link) the best way to backup all of my applications and data when testing out a new ROM? I tried Titanium Backup (and even donated), yet I never have successfully restored from a backup. Some applications and system data restore, but a ton of apps don't install, and I have to re-enter my email accounts (and appropriate sync settings) every time. This and the number of apps it doesn't restore (especially Swype) makes it not worth messing around with.
I read something about Nandroid backup, but that just looked like it was a backup in case something went terribly wrong with a ROM or something of the sort. Also, it looked like in the Simply Stunning (ChevyNo1) 4.2, there was a built in backup script... but I'd like to be able to venture between ROMs.
I want to be able to backup all of my apps and system data (gmail accounts, sms, etc), install a new ROM, and reload all of my apps and data.

Can't seem to find an answer to this. I had to get a replacement Droid (1st one had a very loose screen) and really wanted to have a fresh start with the new phone - no apps, etc. Since I had the backup thing checked on the 1st phone, the 2nd phone reloaded all the apps from the 1st phone. I've tried the various resets (with backup turned off), but nothing gets me back to a blank, clean phone.
Keep in mind that I'm not talking about the Contacts or Gmail being pulled in (that's fine) - I just don't want the apps & settings from the 1st phone. Uninstalling the apps doesn't quite get me to a clean install. Anyone know of a way to delete/turn off that backup that's sitting in the Google cloud?

When I had my iPhone, I can do iTunes backup to my Mac and when I have a new iPhone, I can do restore of the apps and data from the previous iPhone. It restore everything, including apps, the apps data, email configuration, etc.
For Android, there is "Backup My Data" under Settings --> Accounts. Does this do the same thing as the above?
For example, I tried to do this:
1). Check "Backup My Data"
2). Associate this with one of my Gmail account
3). Get a new Android phone and... I don't see "Restore" in the same Settings.
I DO see the settings to Backup My Data in the new Android phone, but I am afraid if I checked this, it will overwrite the data in Google's server
I am trying to figure out if Backup My Data can re-download all the apps installed in the older device, including the apps data. I don't care about email or contacts, since those are synced to my Gmail accounts.

I used the option in batching Titanium Backup to move apps and data to my sdcard to save some space. I've decided I want to move it back so that it's available when I press the Launcher. I know where it's stored on the sdcard and I have root explorer, but I'm just not sure which folder to move it back to in the first place. which folder houses all the apps that are currently available via the Launcher?

Specifically related to when/how often the backup is sent from phone to google servers, and whether that data is accessible from somewhere other than the DROID.I'm curious as to how to plan restores if a install a jacked up app.I've done a hard reset already, in an attempt to cure the 3g -> 1x issue, and was surprised the auto-restore re-installed my wallpaper without any type of user intervention.

Will Droid work with Verizon's Backup Assistant to backup contact list, or sync with Google(gmail/gtalk) Contacts?Or, both? The backup assistant costs $1.99 a month, or something like that, but is waived if on Premium plan.I'll be dropping down to the "Connect" plan since don't need VZ-Navigator option anymore, which would mean I'd have to start paying the $1.99 for Backup Assistant, or I assume for FREE sync to Google contacts?

I am attempting to integrate with Google Docs.(At the moment just trying to get a list of documents). I have issued the ClientLogin request and get an authorization token.I can tell the authorization key is working because if I do not pass that header, I get a 403 instead. Any reason why I would be getting a page not found? I am lost and not sure what else to try.I am not using the java client libraries since I am running on Android and want to keep it lightweight.

So maybe I'm asking a question already answered, but, is there an app for Google Documents? Here's why I'm asking, and why my question is specific to me:I play a lot of poker. I need to start tracking my sessions and keeping accurate records. Problem is, in my casino, I get NO service, eliminating the ability to get to and edit my documents at the table. I need an app that allows me to edit a document and sync it later once I have a signal.

Im using a Hero and was disappointed that I cant zoom in when viewing my presentation in Google Docs mobile using the default browser. When I pinch zoom or double tap, the control buttons on the slide enlarge but the slide stays the same size also, I found out that if I turned off javascript in the browser settings, I can zoom in the slide as usual but then the control buttons stop working.

1) Can I save excel or Word docs on my Droid if they are emailed to me? or do I have to just save the email?
2) When I try to locate certain rural addresses that are in my contact list (or anywhere) it is trying to chg what I type and give me a different address. For example.... 1430 Road K Town, state.... Changes it to 1430 K Street Town State.
Now this wouldn't be a big deal except when using the nav features. OUr address is like this and it can never seem to get it right.

I am working on an Android app that uses the gdata-java-client to download documents for display only. So far I have an application that authenticates with the services and displays a list of user documents. When the user selects a document another query is made for the documents itself. A request for txt, html, rtf and doc files works well, however when I request a spreadsheet in either .csv or .xsl format the result is unexpected.
