Android :: Using PreferenceScreen To Display And Save Settings To/from ContentProvider

Mar 24, 2010

I have my own custom Content Provider that loads a database which contains the settings information for my application.

I load the settings from the ContentProvider on the creation of my Settings activity.

My Settings activity is made up of a PreferenceScreen and Dialog based EditText's.

The following code shows how I use the preference screen and edit texts.

So as you can see from the first image this works and displays the menu with the information underneath.

The problem is in image two, when I click on a choice in the menu the dialog pops up but it is empty, I would like to be able to load the data from my content provider into the edit text in the dialog, so in image one it shows "Donal" as the user name so in image two "Donal" should also appear in the edit text in the dialog.

I would also like to be able to listen to the OK button in the dialog so when a user changes a setting I can update the data in my content provider.

what I'm trying to do?

Android :: Possible To Display DialogPreference Without Showing PreferenceScreen?

Jun 21, 2010

I'm currently writing a live wallpaper for Android and it has a PreferenceScreen which currently contains only one preference - a DialogPreference to set various properties of animation.I'm looking for a way to skip showing that preferences list with only one item and to show that dialog right away. But it seems that PreferenceActivity requests itself to have PreferenceScreen as a root element of preference hierarchy. So is it even possible to do what i want?

Android :: Save Scores And Settings?

Nov 9, 2010

I'm creating the specification for a game I'm about to start creating on android, my main concern is how should I keep scores and settings on android? I assume they would be two different things.

The game has players that will have their settings and scores stored and then a settings menu (for the person setting up the game, not necessarily the player).

How would I go about storing these things? What type of data storage means should I be looking into?

Android :: Save An Intent In Settings?

In my application, I allow the user to have a button that launch the application of his choice. I get no problem to make a list of all installed apps, get the Intent and launch the choosen app.

But I would like to save the corresponding intent in the settings for the next time the user use my application, but settings only allow me to save basic data type ( Integer, boolean, Strings, etc. )

So, my question is how to save an intent in a smart way.

Android :: XScope Browser - Auto Save Forms Settings?

Sep 16, 2010

I'm using Xscope browser and picked the option to remember username/password on websites that I visit. However, my password has changed but it still tries to auto-populate the website fields with these values. Anyone know of a way to get it to stop so I can edit it with the new values?

When I contacted Xscope's developer, he mentioned that it wasn't any settings within the browser and that xScope doesn't store or manage it. The android webkit does. Anyone know what this means and where do I go to edit sites' field values the browser remembers?

General :: Make Display Settings For New Android OS Look Like Gingerbread's

Aug 1, 2013

When I look at the display on Android devices where the OS is newer than Gingerbread, my eyes start hurting from the strain. For example, I tried updating my Tmobile G2's ROM from Gingerbread to ICS , then to Jellybean and after hours of tinkering with the display settings my eyes were still hurting. When I gave up and went back to Gingerbread, then my eyes were fine looking at the screen.

My question is: what exactly changed in the display settings in the newer version of the Android oS? Also How can I use an OS like Jellybean or ICS, but make the screen display with the brightness that was available via Gingerbread?I did try the ADW Gignerbread theme, but that mainly changes the look and feel of the icons, not the display

General :: App Settings Do Not Save?

Aug 25, 2011

So I've noticed that some of my app settings (i.e. log-ins and such) don't "save" as of late. For example it started with Twitter where I had to always keep checking the notification boxes. Now it's gone even further...

I started using Evernote and every few hours, the app "kicks me out" and I have to log back in. I use Chomp SMS and it's not saving any of the customizations i set within the app. Google+ won't stay logged in either. Is it an Android thing? Do I have some sort of Memory leak? Should I wipe the phone and start over?

I thought it was due to the taks killer app, so I deleted that and rebooted.... then it still happened so I thought Juice Defender was killing the apps so I disabled it.... AND THE APPS ARE STILL DOING IT!!!

How To Permanently Save Editor Settings

Feb 3, 2012

I have been using Eclipse for a few weeks but for the life of me I cannot find a way to save some of the settings for the editors for JAVA and Android. By this I mean - save them so that from one project to another these settings remain the same without my having to go back into preferences and changing them each time:

1. Size of recently opened files list: 10
2. Displayed and saved tab width: 3
3. Insert spaces for tabs: ON
4. Show line numbers: ON
5. Set MY choice for Code Templates
6. Typing - Automatically close "Strings" - OFF
Parens, square & angle brackets - OFF
7. Automatically insert at correct Position - Semicolons - Off
Braces - ON

I have tried until I am blue in the face to do this to no avail.

Jun 7, 2010

This may be a simple one to answer, hopefully it is. When I recieve an SMS on my desire I get the notification sound, but I see nothing on the screen until I wake up the screen by pressing the power button. If you do not hear the notification you have to check for messages, I have found sms on the phone that have between there for a few hours before i noticed.
Is there a setting to help with this?

Code:

<PreferenceScreen android:title="@string/wifi_display_settings_title" android:key="wifi_display" android:fragment="com.android.settings.wfd.WifiDisplaySettings" />

But there is no wifi_display setting..

Is there a method to activate the desired option? Maybe it is only hidden and I have to unhide it.. I installed an app to show the wfd dialog, works fine. But I want the android settings way to do this..

Motorola CLIQ :: Changing Auto Refresh Settings To Save Battery Life?

Mar 21, 2010

I've read that BLUR refreshes all the info it needs for it's social widgets every 15 minutes even if you don't have any widgets placed on your home screen. I'm thinking about buying a Cliq but the fact that BLUR is a battery killer turns me off since the main reason I want to upgrade from my G1 is to have a phone with a keyboard that has better battery life. Is there any way to turn this "Auto refresh" feature off or at least make it longer than every 15 minutes? Even better are there any BLURless roms out there? has any1 tried deleting the BLUR widgets apk? would that make it so it doesnt have to "refresh"? having more memory available from being BLURless is just icing on the cake what really matters to me is battery life.

Android :: Using Custom Defaults For PreferenceScreen

Dec 8, 2009

I am currently trying to implement a PreferenceActivity for my application that uses custom default values for its preferences instead of the defaults declared in the corresponding preference XML as the defaults are supposed to change dynamically based on certain conditions. However, when I modify the defaults via the Android API after loading the preferences through addPreferencesFromResource(R.xml.preferences); it already seems to be too late and the individual defaults set via Preference.setDefaultValue do not seem to be taken into consideration when rendering the UI.As I would like to avoid re-inventing the wheel I hope there is some possibility to achieve this using the standard Android preference API. Is there any way to trigger a re-evaluation of the values (and default values) associated with a PreferenceScreen hierarchy? I did not yet try whether creating the PreferenceScreen via APIs instead of loading from XML would help, so that could be an option.

Android :: IconPreferenceScreen That Extends PreferenceScreen

Jul 28, 2010

I would like to have a Preferences activity that has icons like the system settings has had since Eclair. It uses a special Preference called IconPreferenceScreen.I can copy that into my project without problem, but I'd like the behavior of the PreferenceScreen instead of just the Preference Class. I could like to click on it to show its children Preferences. I thought it would be a easy to change to make IconPreferenceScreen extend PreferenceScreen instead of Preference, but PreferenceScreen is Final. Why on earth would google make PreferenceScreen a final class? Is there anyway to achieve what I would like to do, short of dividing up my Preference into several other Preferences that all receive intents (That's how the system settings works.)
