Android :: Synching Facebook Contacts Without Using Full Names

I'm all about being able to link a contact to their facebook page which shows their pics, etc.However, I have only been able to link a contact to a facebook contact by entering their full name.I have many contacts that I have as nicknames or as Bank Erica, if it's Erica from the bank..Is there a way to link 'Bank Erica' to her actual 'Erica Bxxxx' facebook page? I would assume that you could use email to do this, but have not found a way. Please advise if there is something I am missing or if there is an app that fixes this.

Ok, so, when I go to my contacts, I have a couple names like (ex.) Bob A. I decided to change it to my linked contact from Facebook so that it's Bob Apple. So I save every name and back out. When I turn off my phone later that night, than turn it on the next morning, the contacts have gone back to their original state (like Bob A.)

I entered some new contacts in on the HTC Dream and they don't synch with Google Contacts? Does anyone know what I'm supposed to do so that they synch?

I'm not sure if this is possible, my contacts are synched with my facebook profile which is great. Do you know if the DOB of a contact is synched with the calendar - I can't seem to see this and it would be really handy to have.

i can't seem to find a direct answer to this question, so i will post new. I'm using the original Droid from Verizon, with 2.2 (Froyo) installed. I'm trying to sync my contacts on my Droid with Outlook (Exchange). it sort of works, but not quite right. when i got my phone, i believe the guy at the store moved my contacts from my old Blackberry to my Droid (not sure). I now have duplicate entries in Outlook for all of my contacts; it appears that when the Droid syncs it creates entries in Outlook; but when i change or add entries in Outlook i don't see the changes on my Droid. all i want is for the contacts on my Droid and Outlook to be the same, and changes in one to affect the other.

So my birthdays and anniversaries in my contacts' info isn't syncing with the calendar that came with the phone. Is that right? I checked to make sure synchronization is on in the phone settings, but that didn't change anything.

Just activated new Droid X phones for me and my wife. Set up Gmail accounts and imported contacts and calendars from outlook 2007. Is there a way I can keep our contacts and calendars continually synched over the air?

Right, I've just installed 2.1 and now when I go to edit a name in a picture for the facial recognition feature it automatically has my contacts and every single facebook friend listed.Does anyone know how I can get rid of the facebook names? It's really annoying me, I even told facebook not to link up at all when I first started the application to avoid problems like this.

I purchased my Captivate about 3 days ago, and for the most part I love it. Context: I was given a brand new SIM card for it I switched from a Blackberry Bold.The AT&T rep. tried using the machine that connects both phones and synchs contacts from one to the other, but it did not work. My question is: How do you synch contacts from a Blackberry to the Captivate? Before you answer, let me say that I do have a Gmail account and I know the Contacts app can synch with the account, but I do not store my friend's phone numbers on there - and I do not want to individually input each one. Also, I own a Mac and when I had my blackberry I did not back up my contacts on my Mac, and did not have Outlook to back them up onto even if I had tried backing them up - so I cannot simply export my contacts to .csv and load them up to Gmail. There is more I can say (for instance, it seems as if my contacts have been put onto my Captivate, but they're not in the Contacts App that came preloaded with the Captivate...they are, instead, in the folders section under Contacts...how the heck did they get there?!) but I will stop here and see if anyone can guide me through this very frustrating process.

I thought I had read something about this before, but now I can't put my finger on it. Is the initial synch between Gmail contacts and Facebook using e-mail addresses or contact names? In other words, if I'm using only first names for some contacts will it find their Facebook profiles or will I have to change the contact names to full names? My Incredible is arriving today (can't wait) and just want to know if I need to update my contacts.

Some of my gmail contacts have different names than on their facebook accounts. For example, "Jacob Chan" might be "Jake C" on Facebook.
After facebook syncing on ICS, they now appear as two contacts in the People app. Is there a way to work around this, aside from changing my gmail contact name?
I'm on Pete Alfonso's Nexus S ROM and Ezekeel's Glados 2.6 CFS kernel.

I have an AutoCompleteTextView and i want it to auto complete contact names on input. The problem is that Contacts.People has been deprecated. The new documentation says to use ContactsContract but i can't find any proper tutorial. Can anyone give me a sample code or point me to an appropriate tutorial.

Weird but each time i open contacts i see few numbers without their name.when i try to edit them i see the names.contacts list looks buggy.and i am using latest i5 firmware. With hebrew fonts pushed into my phone.

I know that they were listed in my contacts so I looked them up and to my suprise they were gone. As I looked around I found that ALL my Starred "favorite" contacts were missing. I checked online at the Google website and found the same names missing from my contact list. It was only the Starred names thet were missing. Has anyone else ran into this problem or know why it may have ate my Starred contacts.

He's got a Cricket LG Optimus C, and I've got a Cricket Huawei Mercury. A couple of weeks ago, my son's contact list all of a sudden had a bunch (like over 100) random contacts added to it, all of people he doesn't know. Now all of a sudden, mine has done the same thing - I suddenly have a bunch of random contacts in my list, and I don't know any of them. I opened a bunch of them up, and they all have the same area code as we've got, if that makes any difference. I haven't downloaded any apps in about a week, so I don't think that could have anything to do with it, plus the most recently downloaded apps that I have were things that my son didn't have, so I don't think that an app is the reason for it. I did a google search, and I couldn't find anything like it. It's not a huge deal, but it's annoying to have to go through and delete a bunch of contacts, so if there's anything in particular causing it, I'd like to figure out how to stop it from happening again.

Just wondering how I can get all my contacts showing the correct name in my phonebook. After 2.1 upgrade it imported all my facebook buddies, and because I call everyone by nicknames it has duplicated a lot of entries. I've tried "joining" the duplicates together to get just the one entry per person, but it seems to randomly choose whether they are stored under their facebook name or the nickname I have for them. I've tried entering what I want them to be called in the 'nickname' bit under the contact 'edit' screen, but again it seems to be random as to whether it then uses this name to display them in my contact list.

Anyone else experience a delay of about 5 seconds within touchdown for it to pull up contact name suggestions. For example. Compose email- type in last name of person to add to the "To" field. Take about 5-7 seconds for the name suggestion to come up from the contact list.

I went to send a text message today to a friend named Jamie and when I scrolled through my contacts and click on Jamie I see two numbers. One is for Jamie and the other is for James. The problem is only Jamie shows up in my contact list. Luckily, I had my old phone and I was able to see which number belonged to who. I tried deleting both contacts and re-adding but the same thing happened. Can anybody else confirm this or is there some setting that I am unaware of (ie. group similar names)? Not a huge deal just curious.

The biggest reason I wanted a data phone was so I could check facebook from work (blocked), or while out and about.
When I got the Incredible, I found out that all the Facebook apps do the stupid "Top News" only, and you can't change it to view all the recent new. The only way I could find to get around it was to click on "Full Site" at the bottom of the mobile site page, click on "Most Recent" when the page loaded, then often the link wouldn't actually work but if I hit "refresh" the page would reload with "Most Recent" selected and the most recent posts all listed out. A real pain, but possible.
But when I try the same thing on my Fascinate, I just get a big blank page with no status updates.
Is there any way to view the full, regular, "Most Recent" post list on the Fascinate?

I got my DroidX on 7/15 and on 7/16 linked all my phone contacts who have facebook to a facebook contact via social networking. I kike how the phone sets the picture, I like that in the contact entry it shows me thier status on facebook. What I don't like is that when I open up a contac that is both a phone contact and a facebook contact and I tap the facebook icon on the contact screen I get 3 options (view profile, write on wall, and poke). If I open up a contact that is only facebook and tap that same Icon I get 4 options (view profile, message, write on wall, and poke). Is there some reason linking the facebook contact to a phone contact needs to remove that option? I'd like to be able to send a facebook message from the phone to any contact as easy as I can send a text message.

Having all my facebook contacts who have their mobile nos on their profile coming up in my contacts and all the ones with their birthdays coming up in my calendar. Any idea how I can stop this because it's annoying having all this info I don't want amongst the stuff I do.

Just wondering if there is an app or a procedure to get your facebook contacts to automatically sync with your phones contacts as well as your google contacts. For instance if you add someone as a friend on facebook and they have their email and phone number filled out in their profile, that information would automatically be added to your phone. Is there a way to do that?
