Is it possible at runtime to determine whether the platform is running cupcake or donut? Due to some variation in my app between the two versions I'd like to run different code based on the SDK version.

I tried to build NDK with the latest source code, bu unfortunately, faile again :( .
So is there any way to get particular version of android source code? for example the android-1.5r3 tag. Would be great if some command like "svn switch /foo/bar/1.5r3" is available.
where to find the version information in source files on Android platform? I try to find out some information listed in setting>>about phone.

How to add my device tree, kernel source code to CM source and compile CM7 ROm?
I built Phone.apk from the source code, and the resulting application could not find a carrier. I suspect that there are specific target builds required here (note that I DID add "TARGET_PRODUCT := htc_dream" as required to the Makefile), but there are no other vendors available under the Vendor folder in the source (i.e., T- Mobile, etc). Am I off base? Should Phone.apk be able to work on our HTC dream phones without additonal modifications?

I've tried flashing the stock boot.img over the rom, building and flashing the stock kernel seperately (that boots the stock rom just fine when flashed but won't boot CM10), and tried modding the ramdisk to boot, but nothing is working.
I've looked at other MSM7x30 devices to find if I'm missing anything, but I can't find anything that I don't have in the device folder.

An Android Java project placed in a git repository and built in an Android tree in /packages/apps needs to have the project files located at the root of the git repository. This is problematic for creating a complementary Test project, which should ideally be included in the same git repository so commits are atomic for both code and tests. Eclipse gets very unhappy if you include the Test project as a subdirectory. Is there an appropriate approach for dealing with this other than creating a second repository?

There is an option to create an Android JUnit Project. As far as I am aware the other way is to create a folder in the same project called test which contains the same package name as the existing project. What are the differences between these two methods.

Given a checked out working copy, how do I bring the Android Test project into an Eclipse workspace? It's easy to add the Android project to the workspace (just File->New Project->Android Project->From Existing Source and point it at the directory in the svn working copy). But, the 'New Android Test Project' does not have an option to create from existing source.

Just got my Hero last night from Best buy with that nice little coupon! Great device so far, except that I cant send SMS at all. I can receive them though. I tried sending with the built in app, as well as HandCent.
When sending with the built in app, I get this error:

I have tried updating firmware, PRI and PRL. Also rebooted the phone. Nothing makes it work. Anyone have ideas what I can do to make this work?
I can run the unit test cases either by :
1. command line ' adb shell am instrument -w com.example.android.apis.tests/android.test.InstrumentationTestRunner'
2. Go to 'Dev' and clicks 'Instrumentation' and click 'Test API Demo'.But my questions now is, how can I debug my unit test cases? I try 'Debug' my APIDemoTest eclipse project and then do #2 above, it did not break at any of my breakpoints I setup.
In this article, it talks about android 2.0,

Is it possible to get the android 2.0 source?
For all of you android devs out there that have the Android simulator running on your computer, you know that there are a few built in apps that are already installed on your 'phone'. I had an idea for an app that would utilize a function that is already being done in the spare parts app that comes already installed. I went on to the android developer site, dug through the source code files, and found the spare parts app, and am now trying to set it up so that running it from eclipse on my machine actually runs the app in the simulator.
In other words, I want to be able to make changes to and adjust some of the things in that app for my own needs. But it won't compile, because of a number of different errors. How do I get that source code running on my local machine? Is there some special trick that I just don't know about? I thought that if I could get the source code than the rest would be easy, but it isn't being too easy.
Is there an easy way of getting the Android source code? More than anything else, I just want to be able to look at the source for some of the standard apps, such as the Android Market, Contacts, etc. I took a look at dev.android.com, but I don't see an easy way of getting the source I'm looking for.
