Jul 19, 2010I figuered out how to tether with the phone. Pair the phone via Bluetooth and go to "Show Bluetooth Devices" and "connect using" and then "access point. Now you have tethered with Bluetooth.

Jul 20, 2010Well I've been a long time user of WinMo and Iphones. The android world is all new to me. I have a few questions that hopefully are quick to answer:
1)Has anyone used the tethering that came built into the phone? That seems to be the only one that works for me. I tried PDAnet but I can't get it to work. But has anyone noticed that the internet is very slow when tethering?
2)I have rooted the phone and would like to remove some of the AT&T bloatware and what not but before I do, how easy is it to restore the phone back to factory? is it a matter of just using the restore to defaults option? Depending on my experience i may or may not return the phone in the 30 days.
3)Does anyone suggest a nice fast IM program. I'm using Palringo but there seems to be a nice big lag in between switching from buddy lists to chats.

Aug 23, 2010Can it be done? Obviously Verizon and Motorola have disabled it because they want us to pay $20/month for the Verizon app. Yeah, sure Verizon. Anyways, if it requires a custom ROM to enable, then we're SOL until someone breaks the bootloader encryption or we have to use the free WiFi Tether for Root Users app which only supports Ad-hoc mode and WEP encryption, which basically is the same as no encryption really.

Sprint HTC Hero : Cant Send SMS At All But Can Receive - Built In App Get Error - Cause Code 97
Oct 30, 2009Just got my Hero last night from Best buy with that nice little coupon! Great device so far, except that I cant send SMS at all. I can receive them though. I tried sending with the built in app, as well as HandCent.
When sending with the built in app, I get this error:
Cause Code 97
Error Code 2
I have tried updating firmware, PRI and PRL. Also rebooted the phone. Nothing makes it work. Anyone have ideas what I can do to make this work?

Jun 25, 2010I recently flashed to the Fresh 2.1.2 rom, and i'm having trouble using the "Wireless Tether". I've uninstalled the one that came with the rom, and i've installed a fresh new copy from the Marketplace. But every time I've tried hitting the "tether" button, it says "Unable to start tethering, please try again!"
My superuser app isn't doing anything, this might be the problem. Whenever I open the superuser app, it's a complete blank screen.

I was wondering if WiFi tethering would go against this cap or would it look like I'm using regular internet on my phone. Android : How To Start An App After A Force Stop?
Oct 22, 2010If I Force Stop an app (via Settings->Applications->Manage Applications->Any App->Force Stop) will the app ever start up automatically again or is the only way to start it up again to have the user start it. I have an app that starts a service. The service registers an alarm I've defined, with the Alarm Manager and this is recieved as expected. In my manifest I've defined a TimerIntentReceiver, to receive that alarm I've defined. If I Force Stop the app then is it possible to have the Alarm Manager "wake" my app up via the TimerIntentReceiver I've defined. I'm not seeing this happen. Once I Force Stop my app it never runs again unless I manually start it. Is there anything I can listen for, apart from BOOT_COMPLETE, to start up my app? Or does the user always have to start all apps.

Jun 3, 2010I'm playing around with the MediaPlayer class to reproduce some sounds/music. I am playing raw resources (res/raw) and it looks kind of easy.
To play a raw resource, the MediaPlayer has to be initialized like this:

Until here there is no problem. The sound is played, and everything works fine. My problem appears when I want to add more options to my application. Specifically when I add the "Stop" button/option.
Basically, what I want to do is...when I press "Stop", the music stops. And when I press "Start", the song/sound starts over. (pretty basic!)
To stop the media player, you only have to call stop(). But to play the sound again, the media player has to be reseted and prepared.

The problem is that the method setDataSource() only accepts as params a file path, Content Provider URI, streaming media URL path, or File Descriptor.
So, since this method doesn't accept a resource identifier, I don't know how to set the data source in order to call prepare(). In addition, I don't understand why you can't use a Resouce identifier to set the data source, but you can use a resource identifier when initializing the MediaPlayer.
I guess that I'm missing something. I wonder if I am mixing concepts, and the method stop() doesn't have to be called in the "Stop" button.

Jul 16, 2010I have this game, which is almost done. It has 1 critical bug. When the app exits and restarts, the phone goes in to super slow mode and eventually restarts. I am at a loss as to how to debug it.
It seems like something is happening to make the program run super slowly. The ND time the program exits it takes a very long time to exit and when the phone returns to the main screen the program is almost totally unresponsive. The phone will eventually restart itself.

Nov 27, 2013I have done many of reverse engineering for other electronics in the past, Since Im new to android I was wondering before even wasting my time if is possible to port, or built a rom from sources or a phone thatis NOT External SD built in to a phone that it have the external sd built in.
Making it short can I try to reverse engineer the android code from a Nexus 5 (no ext_sd) to other device that have ext_sd built in?

Dec 14, 2009I have an application which is playing audio.I have some customers that use this application while driving and who also use the Google Maps application to get directions to the places where they are driving.They have asked me to change my application to pause my audio while the Google Maps application is giving them audio navigation instructions. I am trying to find out if I can register a Broadcast Receiver to let me know when the Google Maps application is giving audio navigation instructions, or if there is a way to detect when any other application has started or stopped playing audio.It seems that this type of functionality would be beneficial for Google Maps and for any type of application which is playing media, so I am hoping that Google Maps is broadcasting events when it starts and stops giving audio navigation instructions, or that there is a generic way to discover when overlapping audio sources are trying to play.
