Android :: How Does Default Browser On Android Send SEND Intents?

Jul 23, 2010

I'd like to enable a "silent send" from my application that is, I'd like to catch the SEND intent in a Service, not an Activity. How does the default Android web browser send that intent? Is it possible to handle it in a Service, or in an Activity that never sets a View?

Android :: Intents In Queue - Send Data Via Web Service

Sep 29, 2010

Is it possible, with an IntentService, to send another intent to the IntentService from within the IntentService? For example, say my IntentService is processing an Intent which has it write a bunch of data to the database. During this time, several other Intents to write other data may [or may not] have been queued up in the IntentService. Suppose, after processing that Intent by writing the data to the application's database, I want to queue up another Intent to send that data via web service to "the cloud." Perhaps I want to queue this processing in another Intent because sending to the cloud is secondary. Is it possible? Would it cause any problems if the Intent being processed is the only Intent in the queue at the time the IntentService is trying to queue another Intent?

Android :: Handle Existing Instance Root Activity Launching Root Activity From Intent Filter

Apr 3, 2010

I'm having difficulties handling multiple instances of my root (main) activity for my application. My app in question has an intent filter in place to launch my application when opening an email attatchment from the "Email" app. My problem is if I launch my application first through the the android applications screen and then launch my application via opening the Email attachment it creates two instances of my root activity. steps: Launch root activity A, press home Open email attachment, intent filter triggers launches root activity A Is it possible when opening the Email attachment that when the OS tries to launch my application it detects there is already an instance of it running and use that or remove/clear that instance?

Android :: How To Send Custom Data Objects With Intents Phone?

Jul 30, 2010

Intents in Android are an elegant way to pass messages between uncoupled components, but what if you want to send extra data with the Intent? I know you can add various value types, and objects that implement Parcelable, as extras, but this doesn't really cater for sending user defined types locally (i.e. not over a remote interface). Any ideas?

Android :: Activity / Intents InTabs

Sep 19, 2010

Developers. I am a newbie to Android but a seasoned developer in UI, Java , and ECLIPSE. I am trying to do something I believe is very simple yet I am struggling. I have two tabs, A & B. I want to put an Activity in each tab. I want to have the 'B' Activity live inside 'A' so I can access it within 'A'. 'A' has a clock and every second that passes I need to update information in 'B', even if 'A' is not currently shown. I put 'B' into the 2nd tab as follows:TabSpec mapInfo=tabs.newTabSpec("tag3"); Intent intent = new Intent(this, MathleteMapActivity.class)mapInfo.setContent(intent); mapInfo.setIndicator("Course Map");tabs.addTab(mapInfo); I am totally confused on how to get the "MathleteMapActivity" Activity from the Intent 'intent'. There appears no way to do this. Can anyone please recommend a cleaner way to do this knowing what I am trying to do?

Android :: Use Of Intents Used For Sending Data To Activity From Service

Feb 16, 2010

I am little confused with the use of intents used for sending data to activity from service. In my application I have to have startactivity from the service and have to pass data ,so that activity can utilize the data while launching.For this i have written the following code Intent intent = new Intent(Service.this,Activity.class); intent.putExtra("data", data); intent.addFlags(Intent.FLAG_ACTIVITY_NEW_TASK); context.start Activity(); I assume that the data is passed to the activity and can be parsed on the oncreate function of the activity.Now the service running in the background has to pass data to the activity continously for UI updates.For this I have written the following codeIntent intent = new Intent(Service.this, Activity.class); intent.putExtra("Data", data); intent.setAction(Intent.ACTION_ATTACH_DATA); sendBroadcast(intent,null); (Do I need to broadcast the intent???) In activity I have done following things:- Implemented broadcast reciever:private BroadcastReceiver mBroadcastReceiver = new BroadcastReceiver() { @Override public void onReceive(Context context, Intent intent) { if (Intent.ACTION_ATTACH_DATA.equals(intent.getAction())) { Bundle extra = intent.getExtras(); float Data[] = extra.getFloatArray("Data"); update(Data);

Android :: Filtering Urls Within An Activity's Intent-filter?

Feb 6, 2010

I'm registering an intent-filter on an activity to listen for url clicks from a certain domain:

CODE:.............

This works, but is there a way to filter out certain urls from my domain? For example, my app can only do something useful for the user if it gets a url like: www.mywebsite.com/orange

But if the user clicks on a link like: www.mywebsite.com/blue

I can't do anything useful for them, so I'd like to just let them continue using the browser to open that url. Is there a way I get a chance to see the URL before android pops up the chooser dialog and presents my app as a possible handler for the url? Is there some method in Activity which allows me to filter?

Android :: New Activity Instance Created For Every Intent-filter?

CODE:...............

the launchMode attribute is set to "singleTop", but it looks like a new activity is created every time I click a matching url. I thought that if the activity is already alive somewhere, it would simply be brought to the front of my activity stack?

I tried this on the emulator/device, same behavior, a new activity instance is always created.

Android :: Unable To Get Data From Activity To Service / How Intents Could Pass That?

Nov 24, 2010

I am pretty new to this but I was told I could get good help here. A friend and myself are playing around with creating Android apps (using ADT)

Here is how we are trying to make the program: in activity, user sets threshold values for the X and Y axis on accelerometer. When user hits button "Start", startService is invoked and starts TiltService.

TiltService is designed to run in the background always on the phone without user interaction. TiltService constantly compares the threshold with the accelerometer values and will vibrate if they are off.

My problem is I can't seem to get the putExtra() data correctly. I have overridden the onStartCommand in my service but I get the message "unreachable code" when I save the getExtras() to a bundle.

Here is the relevant code (I can post the whole thing, just do not want to clog up page) code...

I thought I understood the basic of how Intents could pass data, but I guess I don't. Is it obvious what I am missing?

HTC Incredible : Handcent - Whenever Send A Message It Says Message Failed - Retry Cancel

May 19, 2010

My problem is this, I downloaded Handcent and really like it, however, I can't send messages from home. I have marginal service here (around -98 avg.) but I do get 3G. Whenever I send a message it says Message Failed - Retry, Cancel? I've even had this problem in places with great coverage for both 3G and cell service. The stock messaging app works just fine. So what I've been doing is receiving messages with Handcent and then sending them using the stock app.

So, does anyone have any ideas of what I can do? Are there any settings that can be changed? Does handcent use 3G to send messages?

I'm now trying Chomp to see if that's any better. And, just an FYI, I'm having trouble with text messages, not MMS. I haven't tried sending any pics or videos yet, I've just been sending SMS.

Android :: Send MMS Message?

Oct 16, 2009

I am trying to send an MMS message like this --

Intent sendIntent = new Intent(Intent.ACTION_SEND); sendIntent.putExtra("sms_body", "hello world"); sendIntent.setType("vnd.android-dir/mms-sms"); sendIntent.putExtra(Intent.EXTRA_STREAM, Uri.fromFile(new File (url))); // I have tried Uri.parse(url) here sendIntent.setType("image/*"); // I have tried "image/jpg" and "impage/jpeg" here... startActivity(sendIntent);

The file that I'm trying to send is in my application sandbox.

/data/data/com.myapp.test/files/myco/cache/1234.jpg

However, every time I send the message, I get --

10-16 01:46:51.371: ERROR/MediaModel(3298): IOException caught while opening or reading stream 10-16 01:46:51.371: ERROR/MediaModel(3298): java.io.FileNotFoundException: /data/data/com.myapp.test/files/myco/ cache/1234.jpg 10-16 01:46:51.371: ERROR/MediaModel(3298): at org.apache.harmony.luni.platform.OSFileSystem.open(OSFileSystem.java: 231) 10-16 01:46:51.371: ERROR/MediaModel(3298): at java.io.FileInputStream.<init>(FileInputStream.java:80)

Is this because the file I'm pointing at is in my local sandbox? And if it is, how do I expose it to the MMS app. I have thought about copying it to the SD card first, but that seems like a really bad solution... Can I have the intent run as thought the person who received it is me? (I thought I remembered reading that somewhere...)
