Android :: Screen Blackout When Performing Pinch Gesture On MPMoviePlayerController
Aug 18, 2010
I have this strange issue in iOS4 where in the Video which is playing in MPMoviePlayerController blacks out when the user performs certain kind of gestures over the screen. I'm simply creating a UIViewController and object for MPMoviePlayerController and then setting the View onto the UIViewController.I want to ask if this issue is solvable or not, and whats the correct way of playing a streaming video on iPhone. And if there is way that I can use a overlay view over MPMoviePlayerController and capture all gestures and pass on single taps or touches to MPMoviePlayerController for general functionality of MPMoviePlayerController and avoiding Gestures that is causing the issue. Please help me solving the problem with the Best possible solution and please help me in elaborating the solution.

So I woke up this morning and my phone screen will not turn on. I know the phone works because the LED light will come on showing a text message and I can plug my phone into my computer and transfer music/photos. Or at the very least, use my computer to look at my text messages which are kind of important.
I have already tried taking out the battery with no success.

In my HTC sensation, I can, for example, open a news story on CNN and if the text was too small, I could pinch the screen jesture to zoom out then the phone would resize the font AND still keep the web page fitting on the screen.
Now, with my Samsung 3s, you can't do this. You can zoom, but the phone does not resize and ensure the page fits on screen. So, you have to read and pan around left, right, up down just to read.
I tried to load other browsers that claim to offer this zoom, resize, fit to screen feature, but none of them worked when loaded onto v4.0.4.

On non mobile versions of sites when you zoom in it doesn't lock with the screen size and adjust the text accordingly. Even if you select the fit to screen option. Or am I doing it wrong?

I am very new to custom rom software and stuff since I got my first Android device from my brother. I am very upset at no ics for desire hd and found out about the rom by blackout. Since I am new, rooting seems really hard. Is there a way in which I could install the rom? Would unlocking the bootloader be enough?

Could someone provide the basic code to use if I want to perform a http request on android to the address "address" with the string "message" ? Also I'd like to check the server response and perform some actions if the right conditions meet , but I ' m unsure of how and when the server send back the response . My guess is that the response is gotten in a blocking function, or in an asynchronous function . Could you provide code or information on this as well ?

removing the android manifest file while performing android programming. Someone told me that the manifest file is vital for the layout and setting of out program. they told me this is a seperate file but is still a part of the java project (.jar/ap/apk file). They told me i can set everything using ONLY the java code itself. I really hate doing XML with java. how to remove or unlink this XML/HTML file from the Android SDK?

I've rooted my phone in 2.0.1 because I've failed a few times to get the 2.2 update to work properly and installing 2.1 upon rooting takes too much time when you fail over and over.
With that said I tried installing 2.2 via the recovery. It unpacked installed etc. Then when it booted it now had a new opening splash. It just said android with some light going over it as if it were loading possibly? But it would blink as if to boot into something and just pop back up like it was resetting.
Then I noticed on mydroid they mentioned installing an update.zip file in order to use the sprecovery. Tried that on 2.01 then tried installing the 2.2 recovery via advanced recovery etc. Still just the android name continuously. I've succesfully gotten smoked glass working on this phone before. So I know my way around a little.
Any ideas where I'm going wrong? All the guides I'm finding have dead links so its been a real pain to find a straightfpward step by step.
My question is that logo means somethings wrong I'm assuming? And I did notice I had version 0.99.2b not 0.99.3b? like I had last time.

I received my Desire on Saturday, I'm not very happy with the battery performance at all so far. All automatic updates are off and 3G/Wifi disabled. Yesterday I unplugged it at 0630 (at 100% battery), and despite very little use it was totally drained by 4pm. Today I haven't used it at all (as a test) and it looks like it's only going to be fractionally better. When I check the Battery stats for today 'Cell Standby' is at 74% and 'Phone idle' is at 18%. My question is, 3 days into ownership is this poor performance normal or do you think there's a problem with the battery?

I am looking to completely restore my phone back to the way it was when I purchased it, though I am not quite certain of how to do it (and to load up a new Rom following that).
I have a Samsung Galaxy Note II, running Cyanogenmod in an early version of Kit Kat (4.4).
My internal SD card is a little odd as in that it has an emulated SD partition inside of it (though I'm not totally sure if it's inner workings). This happened after I first installed Cyanogenmod. What do I need to have ready before the reset? (I want to install the carbon Rom on my phone).

I am having major battery draining issues with my phone, i have read about all the tips and tricks and trying to get to the bottom of it, but nothing seems to be working. I read that doing a factory reset might work for the situation. I just want to make sure that if i do that, that my phone will still remain unlocked to any carrier I want.

I would like to know what is meant by gestures in typical mobiles more specifically android ones. Android supports gesture recognition.
Is a gesture termed as when user holds the device and shakes it(say upwards, downwards or side- side)?
Is a gesture termed as when a finger is placed on the screen and traced UP,DOWN,RIGHT,LEFT? If so what is the difference between touch screen and gestures.
I am confused between 1) and 2) option.
What is a gesture exactly?

I create some gestures and they are working, but if I add a button the gesture doesn't work over the button. I split the display resolution to make different gestures and i get x, y coordinates. If i make a gesture starting with the button the coordinates are both 0, only under them i get normal coordinates. It's like the coordinates are starting only after the button.

I had developed a simple gesture recognition library for Android (not for accelerometer; I mean touchscreen - finger gestures). I had to abandon it for quite a while, but recently I was able to clean it a bit and port it to 1.0 SDK. It is released under GPL. Here are some sample videos:

Me and some of my friends have made a gesture recognition application for android. It allows you to customize gestures that will call, text, or email one of your contacts or launch an application. Please check out our blog and demonstration video and comment to let us know what you think.

I got pretty good at using the Palm shorthand for entering text. I'm pretty sure that a similar "shorthand keyboard" would work out well on the Android phones, but I haven't seen any apps that will replace the keyboard with a "shorthand" pad.

I have hooked in a ScaleGestureDetector to an OnTouchListener as instructed in Android documentation. For some reason the ScaleGestureDetector does not always detect end of a pinch gesture. This happens mostly when pinching fast from large to small.
The effect is that after I have released both fingers the detector does not fire the gesture end event. If I touch the screen with one afterwards it still thinks I'm continuing the scale gesture (keeps firing onScale events). I have to do another gesture to get the detector to fire end event.
I have added logs to the OnTouchListener and when the scale gesture gets stuck I still get motion events normally when using one finger and event.getPointerCount() is 1.
I have made sure that I don't have any other listeners intervening. View that has the onTouchListener is not the only view on screen but this effect happens also when I'm very careful to begin and end the gesture inside this one view.
Is there any way to improve the end detection?
Or if there a way for me to manually set the ScaleGestureDetector to fire onScaleEnd and change scaleGestureDetector.isInProgress() to false?

What I want is to have an options menu where the user can choose to navigate the menu between:
1) touching a button and then pressing down on the trackball to select it, and
2) drawing predefined gestures from Gestures Builder
As it stands now, I have created my buttons with OnClickListener and the gestures with GestureOverlayView. Then I select starting a new Activity depending on whether the using pressed a button or executed a gesture. However, when I attempt to draw a gesture, it is not picked up. Only pressing the buttons is recognized. The following is my code:

I am using gesture detector to catch "flings" and using a view flipper to change the screen when this happens. Some of my child views contain list views. The the gesture detector wont recognize a swipe if you swipe on the list view. But it will recognize it if it is onTop of TextView's or ImageView's. Is there a way to implement it so that it will recognize the swipes even if they are on top of another view that has a ClickListener?

where do I put this in my code, do I have to create a new class for it, or can I have it in an inner class, or does it not need a class at all?! I have a set up similar to Lunar Lander which comprises of two files, one of which is a thread that handles pretty much all the physics and drawing of the game. The other file begins the thread and saveInstanceState method. Furthermore, what type is mLibrary?! I cannot find out anywhere! I imagine I will put the OnGesturePerformed method in my thread as this is where I handle all keyUp and Down events.
