Android :: Scanner / Shopping List App To Scan Barcodes Of Products At Home
May 22, 2010
I was wondering if anyone knows of an app that would allow me to scan barcodes of products at home and this becomes my shopping list? It would be nice if when i use the last of something i just scan it and through it away.

I'm looking for a shopping list that will add an item when I scan a barcode, or enter it in manually, then assign a quantity.. That's really all I'm looking for. I tried Price Book from the market, but all the info it wanted in addition to the barcode was a little overwhelming (unless I missed something about it). Any suggestions?

This program worked great the first week I had it, but now it will never scan barcodes. It will scan maybe 1 out of every 10 barcodes. Is this normal? It's not scanning them and then telling me the product isn't found, it just won't scan them and sits on "Scanning barcodes, please wait." And I see tjhe little green dots running up and down the bars. I'm holding my hand as still as possible, focusing on the barcodes, and even try moving the camera in and out. I've even uninstalled and reinstalled it on my Droid X. What could be the problem?

When I run the following line of code:
MediaScannerConnection scanner = new MediaScannerConnection( this, null );
scanner.connect();
scanner.scanFile( szFinalFileName, null ); //<---crash here
I get a crash and this message in the console window:
09-26 14:47:44.074: ERROR/MediaScannerService(10288): Failed to delete file /data/data/com.android.providers.media/pause_scan
does anyone have any ideas why this isnt working and what i can do to fix it?

I push a audio file named "music.aac" into SD card, and then execute "Media Scanner" application or re-start the device. I found that media scanner didn't process ".aac" file, so the "music.aac" file doesn't exist in music player. But Android supports AAC/AAC+/eAAC format.So who know the reason that the ".aac" file doesn't be processed by media scanner.

I am trying to find an app that I can search for a product and it will tell me what store has it. I have one called Shop Savy but that requires you to aim your phone at the barcode which is different from what I am asking.

I wanna use the Gdata Apis within my Android Application. Being more specific I wanna give the user the ability to search for keywords, use the Gdata api to search for products within googleproducts for these keywords and parse the xml that I get back. I know how to parse xml files via an org.xml.sax.helpers.DefaultHandler but I guess that I am not suppose to use such a Handler but rather rely on the Gdata api to parse the xml for me. My Problem is that I dont know how to integrate the api in my App. There is a similiar topic within stackoverflow (hier) but I am not at all satisfied with the answer they gave. Just giving someone the information to "look at our recently announced version 2.1.0-alpha of the GData Java library which supports Android" doesnt quite help me to integrate gdata in my app. I would very appreciate if someone could give a step-by-step guide how to integrate the gdata api within my app, including code examples to make a search-request and parsing back the results from google products.

I'm looking for a shopping list application with some specific features. I have tried many (most? all?) of the free apps that I can find in the Market, but none seem to really do everything I want. I'm willing to buy an app, but I'm not willing to buy one without knowing that it has the features I want. For instance, I've hard Grocery King is great, and I'm more than willing to spend to use it, but I'm not willing to just spend to try it without knowing that it at least does what I want it to do.

I tried searching for this but haven't been successful. I'm looking for a basic app that will tell me what stores are in my immediate location/area if I type in the name. For example, if I'm dying for a cup of coffee and search for Starbucks, it would map out the nearest starbucks stores and I could pick one and maybe head for it with navigation. I have been using Maps but think it's too nonspecific -- if I type Starbucks it will list all stores in the country; if I type in the nearest city it will give me a list of stores but not do it visually on a map. Apologies if this is too basic a question. Today I was driving around in a county not too close to home, and needed a party supply store, but couldn't find one using my phone. I searched "party store" after mapping my location, and it came up with a list of motels/Comfort Inns about 20 miles away.

We each have Droid X's now. We'll go to a mall, or large superstore, and my wife will jst wander away, attracted by bright colors, or shiny objects.
I tried the latitude app that came with the DX, but its accuracy isn't so hot.
Is there an app that wll show you how far another phone is, and what direction?
(Latitude said that I was 1/2 mile away, when in fact I was standing right next to her.)
The spoken directions for her to get to me were a hoot though!

Can we use the applications that released with Android Open Source Project in our commercial products? For example, the "Browser" and the "Contacts". And I also found some demo applications in SDKSamples, like Home and NotePad, can them be used for commercial products? Do we need to pay extra license fee for using these open source applications?

I saw one called Oi Shopping list that has good reviews but can't seem to find it in the market.

I am trying to teach myself the basics of Android dev. At the moment I am experimenting with home screen widgets. I would like to create a simple widget that lists all my bookmarks. Somewhere in my googling I read that ListView is not usable in a widget. What's the best way to display a scrolling list in a widget?

I have been considering a new phone since my 3rd iPhone suffered it's demise and is no longer under warranty (1st Apple update bricked, 2nd stopped functioning, 3rd touch screen has gone wonky). So I have a choice to buy a new iPhone (or refurb) or go Android.
So far I have been impressed by the Android that my co-workers have. Seems very response, seems very snappy, seems pretty polished. I do have a couple questions: Is there a way to get a home screen of the droid to list out the next coming calendar items? I miss this feature from the BB and WiMo sets. Same with emails.

like many others, I want to kill my Android application on "exit" button. Really kill, not just move to background and stop all active code. (I know very well that Android does not like it.) I found Process.killProcess(Process.myPid()); and System.exit(0) which both work fine (I have no problem with activity stack, the "exit" button is in my base Activity.). But there is a problem. When I kill my process and I am back in the shell, I press [Home] button. It shows list of applications that are on the background including my application which has been killed.
Is there a way how to do both: 1) kill the process and 2) remove it from the Android application list that is shown after user presses [Home] button? Thanks for all replays (with the exception of that stupid "you should not exit applications explicitly on Android"

Can't find this via a search, but am looking for opinions on any apps that will use the camera to get and image, and then create a pdf. I am not looking to do this on pictures, but rather on pages of text. I guess I can always just email a photo, but would rather it be a pdf.
I looked in the market, and found a few, all cost $, so I am writing to see if anyone will post their experience with any of these prior to me shelling out the bucks.
