Android :: Using Android Native Applications On Commercial Products
Feb 3, 2009
Can we use the applications that released with Android Open Source Project in our commercial products? For example, the "Browser" and the "Contacts". And I also found some demo applications in SDKSamples, like Home and NotePad, can them be used for commercial products? Do we need to pay extra license fee for using these open source applications?

I am trying to find an app that I can search for a product and it will tell me what store has it. I have one called Shop Savy but that requires you to aim your phone at the barcode which is different from what I am asking.

I wonder whether there is any way to develop native apps (HTML-based apps is another story) that would run both on Android and iPhone? I know that there exist applications available for both OSs, so I wonder how are they ported/developed for both targets?

I wanna use the Gdata Apis within my Android Application. Being more specific I wanna give the user the ability to search for keywords, use the Gdata api to search for products within googleproducts for these keywords and parse the xml that I get back. I know how to parse xml files via an org.xml.sax.helpers.DefaultHandler but I guess that I am not suppose to use such a Handler but rather rely on the Gdata api to parse the xml for me. My Problem is that I dont know how to integrate the api in my App. There is a similiar topic within stackoverflow (hier) but I am not at all satisfied with the answer they gave. Just giving someone the information to "look at our recently announced version 2.1.0-alpha of the GData Java library which supports Android" doesnt quite help me to integrate gdata in my app. I would very appreciate if someone could give a step-by-step guide how to integrate the gdata api within my app, including code examples to make a search-request and parsing back the results from google products.

I was wondering if anyone knows of an app that would allow me to scan barcodes of products at home and this becomes my shopping list? It would be nice if when i use the last of something i just scan it and through it away.

Running Froyo with Fresh 3.4 build and recently any time I use any app that utilizes the native date/time selector, i have problems... WHen trying to set a new alarm, or edit an existing one, when I click the "Add Alarm" icon, instead of bringing up the window that allows the selection of the time the alarm should sound, the screen just flashes and goes back to the "Desk Clock" screen. Also, whenever I want to make a new calendar entry or change an existing one, the same thing happens at the point that the date/time selector window should appear.

We've red the gmaps license agreement but it wasn't to clear for us if we can use that Gmaps API for a commercial Android application. Do you know any details regarding this subject? Do we have to pay some fee to Google if we want to use it inside a commercial application?

Under the terms of the Apache Public License, can I use some (graphic) resources in my commercial app?
More specifically, in my (proprietary) Android app, I want to use some graphics from Android. Since Android is licensed under the Apache Public License, I downloaded the source and took the resources I wanted. But I was wondering, if I want to sell this app, or not release the source code, am I allowed? Do I have to put any notices in my app description?

I have been searching around for free or commercial AR toolkits and need some advice on the best one! I don't want to have one that recognizes a pattern and creates a shape. The idea I have uses the local location and uses POI's from a server to present them onto an AR view.

I'm currently developing a small non-commercial game for Android which is based on OpenGL ES. Except for some minor issues (slow as crap emulator being the biggest) I've really enjoyed it so far and would love to continue developing for it. The question is: What are your thoughts on the future of Android as an environemnt for the game market? I read an article somewhere that said that the IPhone is the preferred platform for games, but since I don't own a Mac and won't bother with some complicated work around to get it to work on Windows I'm currently not interested in it. So, what do you think? Is it worth spending alot of time (and potentially money) on a larger Android game project?

As we know, Verizon dropped the wireless part of their name and they have adopted this "Rule the Air" thing. I saw a commercial earlier and I wanted to know the phone they were showing in the commercial was it a Droid X? Has anyone seen the commercial? I think it was a Droid x because the electronics around the street were becoming animated and moving around and plus the phone in the person's hand looked way to big to be any of verizons other current phones. Idk lol maybe i am just anxious for the X

I'm an Android total-noob but in the last few weeks I've installed the JDK/Eclipse/Android SDK on 2 PC's. Both installs took a day of tweaking and dealing with configuration problems and getting the different parts to play together, and generally were a PITA! On one PC I'm STILL dealing with random, sporadic instances of the "HelloAndroid] emulator-5554 disconnected! Cancelling 'com.example.helloandroid.HelloAndroid activity launch'!" problem that has been discussed here and on the Android Google group! No one seems to know for sure what causes it. ALSO in the last few weeks I've installed Visual Studio 2010 on the same PC's to do my regular work as a Windows sw developer. On both PC's all I had to do was pop in the DVD, type in the product code, come back a few hours later and start coding!! So my question is whether there is a commercial (i.e., $$) sw development environment for Android that installs and runs as easily as VS 2010 so I can focus my time on actual sw development and not on fighting with the development system.

I am sure you have all seen the new iPhone commercial where they brag about it being able to search the internet among other things while in a call. I tried this on my Hero yesterday, but it first said that the data connection was being used and to enable Wifi. I enabled wifi and tried again, but no browser would connect, Google Maps wouldnt find my location, seems like Android cant handle this? Is there something I missed? Would this be an Android thing, Sprint thing, etc?

I just saw a commercial for the Chase Real Cash Debit Card and in the scene where the guy is standing at the counter and his phone rings, he pulls out a MotoDroid! Just thought I'd share this. I think that it's cool that we are finally seeing Android phones in other commercials. I still haven't seen one in a TV show or movie yet, but I'm sure it's only time before I do. I tried finding the commercial with google, but I guess it's just too new of a commercial to be on the internet yet.
