General :: Turn Off Safe Search For Google Now?

Nov 3, 2012

I have just performed my first ROM flash on my S3 with Android Revolution HD 14

With Jellybean comes Google Now, the Android equivalent of Siri. I have been experimenting with this and have discovered that despite my Google account settings being set to safe search filter off, and that I have turned off the Block Offensive Words option in settings, Google Now filters things by default.

For example, if I say 'Images of Large Hadron Collider' Google Now will duly serve me image results as requested, but if for example I say 'Images of furious sweaty butt sex' it just provides me with a web search and I subsequently have to select images myself. Even when I do, it takes me through to images that have quite clearly been filtered. Not only this, but if I were to request images of something where there were mixed images of clean and not so clean, it would only serve me up the filtered pics.

So my question; is there a way to turn off the safe search elements so that my internet can be delivered to me as I wish, or do I have to put up with Google not showing me what I have requested? (which isn't furious sweaty butt sex)

Android : Setup Parental Restrictions On Phone?

Jul 2, 2010

I just got an Android phone for my son. Is there any way to set up parental restrictions on the phone so he doesn't have full access to everything on the browser? I have hidden the browser icon, but that's not going to work very long. He's not very computer/tech savvy, but his friends will show him. His iPod Touch has restriction settings, so wondering if Android has anything like it. I've searched this forum and the net and haven't found anything.

Android : Restrictions In Resource Name / How To Do Generic Internationalisation?

Oct 5, 2010

Currently porting an iPhone application to Android. I've encountered an issue that I haven't been able to overcome. On the iPhone, translating your text is trivial. Put all your strings/text in Localizable.strings in the format: "sentence to translate" = "sentence translated" The original string can contain any characters of any type. So, what are the restrictions in the name of a resource on Android. Or is there a way to circumvent it and easily replace one string with another. I'd like to keep the original dictionary of text I was using on the iPhone to keep things simple and not introduce any unnecessary errors.

I have tried numerous launchers and have found it difficult to find any launchers that allow you to go above 72x72 resolution for icons. The only one that would was Go Launcher EX and that simply scaled them up to a barely noticeable 82x82.

Is there a launcher which allows you to load icons that are say 100x100 and that does not scale them?

When I added a new entry in AndroidManifest.xml/manifest/application/activity/intent-filers for activity B then the application worked.

I have two questions:

When there are multiple activities entries in AndroidManifest.xml, how does android know which activity to start first?
I could not understand intent-filters.

Android :: Signal Analysis - Some Filters

Jun 18, 2010

As the world cup is the main sport event and the Vuvuzelas are the most annoying sound in the world, I had an idea to remove them definitively by reading this new ( http://www.popsci.com/diy/article/2010-06/simple-software-can-filter-out-vuvuzela-whine) that told us that the sound has some frequencies at 233Hz + 466,932,1864Hz.

I have already made a lot of Android application by myself but never touching the signal analysis and filtering part, so here are a few questions, I do not ask for precise answer but maybe links and tutorial to find something to work on. I guess that a new Android phone has the CPU and power to make real-time filtering.

1) How can I intercept the sound coming from the Jack microphone - Line-IN plug- ( I plan to link my TV to my phone with Jack to Jack plug). My question is totally software and coding, I have all the wires and adapters to plug a jack into my android phone Line IN.

2) Are there some Fourier analysis librairies, may I have a look to Java libraries on the web and import them to my Android project?

I am interested in activating another application's activity. I know from reading the Android SDK that it's probably better to do this with an implicit intent.
