However when I updated the app through the Android market, my users experienced crashes.Since there is no way to properly debug this procedure I asume the crash is caused by old data which is not being removed from the device (probably from the onsavedstate bundle?!).Is there a way to do a "clean/total" reinstall without having the user to do it manually?

I looked around and although there are many related questions I didn't see one that answers my exact question:
I would like to create an app that runs in the background that provides the exact same functionality as the hard coded 'Back' button in all cases.
The reason? I (for example) have a Droid X, and it is BIG. it makes it extremely hard to use one-handed and having a swipe gesture function as a back button (like in Palm Pre for example) would greatly increase the ease of use.
as far as I'm concerned the app could just be one simple class that contains:
1) a listener for the 'back' swipe
2) a call to the physical hard button itself
Is this possible? are there built in APIs for the hard coded buttons that would allow me to call them without actually pressing them?
Again - I'm not interested in overriding the button, I'm interested in making a software call to it - or failing that, in emulating it's behavior in any and all states and other apps!

I integrate my application with global search functionality, but global search always shows "More results... xxx (n) " even if there is only 1 result from my application. I've disabled all other applications so that there is enough room for displaying the results of my application for sure. Any hint when it shows result directly and when it shows "More results..."?

I got the problem that I have to implement a contact list/picker including a filtering possibility for the contacts list. That means that the standard android picker opened by an intent does not help me. So I decided to implement the list/picker on my own which is not that difficult. But I need to be able to offer the android search dialog in my own implementation as well.
So is it possible to reuse the standard contact search mechanism in an own application? (the contact search available e.g. in the default contact list) Or do I have to implement this one on my own?

The only way that came to my mind uses a PhoneStateListener in a background services that waits for the CALL_STATE_IDLE event starting up the application again. I thought that Action was preeminent during intent resolution and if the intent had the same action as the intent filter, it would be considered a match regardless of data, if the filter did not specify anything. So I was very surprised to find that supplying action+data where filter had only action, causes it to fail. In the code below, if you comment out line 47 so that data is *not* sent, only then it resolves correctly. To get it to work with the data (an id that is simply a String), what mime type should I specify in the intent filter?

Secondly, is it possible to set-up a third party email account, ex: Yahoo? I went through the notion of manually enter email account, but was unsucessful. It give me a msg that mailbox access is not supported for some tpes of yahoo mail accounts. Could this be an interference with gmail email, thus causing the problem? Even, using the manually setup option, it still fails to connect to my yahoo account.

Is there an Event that is fired when an widget becomes visible on to the homescreen. I didn't mean at install time, I mean if the user changes his homescreen by wiping the surface of the phone. The background of this question is that I setup a timer in a service inside the widget that gets updates from a url but that should stop if the widget is not on the current homescreen.
