Android :: Paid Applications And Market Feedback / Rating
Mar 16, 2009
I have had a free version of my app available for several months. With the new features I am about to release in the latest version, and with paid apps now possible, I intend to split the app into a free lite/trial version and a paid full version.I am aware that I must create a new app with a new signature for the full version b/c I can't change the current free app to a paid one.I don't mind this, but,is there any way I can transfer the thousands of feedback and ratings I have accumulated so far to the paid version even though it will have a totally new signature?

Are there any plans to implement some sort of group/team to review the applications before they're released onto the Market?I've never written anything for iPhone but from what I've read there's at least some quality control in place an application has to go through some sort of review process before it's made available for public consumption, I believe. So why not do that here?Let's be honest there are some great programs out there, and there's absolute crap.some of these are borderline scams.I can think of a few apps that have great descriptions but when you download them, they're nothing more than slideshows or something similar.I've even seen the feedback for one of these applications which said that you have to wait 24 hours before it will work which is, as we all know, the time at which the sale is final and no refund is given. If that's not a dodgy practice I don't know what is.I know it's still an early stage in the game for the platform but it's got a lot of potential - we wouldn't be here if it wasn't, would we? The only way to draw more quality developers to the platform is to implement some sort of control. it seems like it's the wild west here.

this question is now obsolete, as Android Market includes much more countries and such services as PayPal Mobile Payments Library are available.I'd like to sell my Android application, but I live in Poland and in my country* Android Market supports only free apps (we cannot sell and we cannot buy too). What is the best way to sell application in such situation? I can accept PayPal money transfers, but I don't know how to distribute APK package without exposing it to getting pirated. Did someone tried it already and succeeded? you may be surprised, paid apps are supported only in 12 countries worldwide.

I woke up this morning to 2 new 1-star rating on my app, which made it 3 total. There were no comments and no purchase cancellations in the last couple of days, so I said to myself WTF, 2 people actually kept the app and gave it a one star? I thought it might be a competitor. But I just looked again and the 2 new 1-stars have disappeared. What is going on with the market?

Is there a way to allow users to enter in a comment and or rating for my app from directly within my app and have that data posted back to the Android Market? If so, what would the code for that look like if I used an EditText view to allow user input? If not, then is my only other option directly linking to my app in the Market (i.e. the user clicks the link in my app, or a button, and the Market app launches with my app page displayed)?

I made a beta-version of a game which at the beginning was a testing- version. I solved more and more errors and made it faster and faster. Now I am getting to the point that it isn't a beta-version anymore. I have customers who like my free game and I also have old bad comments that my game was not working. Should I remove my beta-version and upload a completely new application to enhance my rating? (All my last comments were good) Or is there a possibility to remove old ratings?
I think it would be much better if the google-market will not include ratings of old versions into the total rating, because apps and versions change over time! Why doesn't google do this and how can I give this advice to google?

SO I open the market (that has a billion apps in it), and I am trying to sort the results by rateing, or popularity or something. Surely there must be some way to filter them.
Am I totally missing something? Also - locale sounds cool - lots of people recommend it, but when I search for that I get like 50 results that all look like they could be the "right" one. what one do I want? it is a paid app right?

I really want to add comments and ratings to a number of applications in the free Market, but I can't see any way to do it. How are you meant to add a comment? Maybe it's because I'm in Denmark, which should get/have gotten access to paid Market apps, but even so does not seem to offer paid apps yet. If that's the case, it's kinda dumb that you can't even comment on the free stuff. So, how are you meant to add a comment? Either I'm doing it wrong, or I'm not able to I'd like to know which is the case.

I have just written a game for the Android market and would like to remind my customers to leave feeback on the market for the application (especially the demo version.) Is there any way to launch the market intent in a mode that will take the user to the feedback / comments section of the page?I already use this approach for linking my demo to the paid app.
Is there a best practice that any Android devs out there might know of?Additionally, is there any way to track referalls from my demo app so that I can try to calculate some kind of a conversion rate? (i.e. how effective the demo app is at generating sales.)

Is there a dedicated list for developers who have paid apps in Android Market? It would be best if that list has at least 1 *Google* (not Android, i.e. I don't need it to be technically savvy) employee able to give sensible answers to WTF questions related to the Market and paid apps?

Something happened that should've never happened and now I have to make a new google account and try to rebuild everything. Gmail, igoogle, voice, etc. I did some poking around, but it seems no one has ever asked about any way of transferring paid apps from one google account to another. Is this possible, or am I now $20+ in the hole on apps I can no longer use on top of everything else that has happened? For some reason, google flags things that the built-in search can't catch. Transfer Paid Apps to a New Phone?

There's another warez site ripping off the paid versions of my apps from the Google Market(as well as other developers paid apps) - all the usual ignoring stuff when contacting to remove apps. I have to accept that some of my apps get pirated(that haven't used the licensing service & proguard), but What particularly gets my goat about this site, is that the owner is apparently *charging* for full access to the ripped off apps! See: http://www.droidphonefiles.com/Join.html and a list of ripped apps: http://www.droidphonefiles.com/Apps.html And the usual market spamm comments attached to such a warez site promoted by the author (AndroLib is useful here to easily list the spam user) http://www.androlib.com/android.comment.author.amy-DEFAq.aspx Any ideas what I can do? Or does Googles team care about this kind of activity?

I recently did a factory reset so I could change the gmail address my phone associates with. I did a factory reset because the option to clear data option under Settings - Applications - Manage Applications - Google Apps - Clear Data was not there (I have Sense UI 2.1, don't know if that was the culprit). My question is, is there a way to reinstall my paid apps, without buying them again, since my phone now associates my new gmail address with the market and Google Checkout? Or is there a way for the market to use my old gmail address so i can reinstall these paid apps without paying for them again, and then use the new address? I backed up all my apps with Astro, but for some reason bTunes didn't get back up.

It's been a week of non-stop issues and extremely unprofessional silence from Google (other than the poster saying "Just to let you know we're looking into this", and I'm considering staying for another week max and then pulling out my paid app from Market. Actually I'd pull the free one as well but haven't slept on that yet - perhaps I'll leave it to direct users to AndAppStore and SlideMe.My question is am I even allowed to pull out a paid application given that I have sold it already (to < 100 customers though)?

Do I have to upgrade to rc33? I have it connected to wifi, but no update so far. Do I have to put a sim card in?It will be better to provider a button to check for newer version, and simply give a response like "we know everybody is on rc33 now, but we won't leave you alone. your ticket number is 23323, we will schedule a update in 2 days later, be patient..".

I have a Vodafone NZ 'Google Experience' HTC Magic. This phone was released in NZ back in late July, but as of yet we still have no access to paid apps in the Android Market. It would appear we are not alone, as posts to the market help forum reveal similar concerns for the likes of Switzerland, Australia, South Africa, Brazil, Israel, Czech Republic and mainland China. Now in and of itself I can accept a delay while all the nuts and bolts of international tax laws etc are worked out, but what is particulalrly galling here is the total lack of information on what is going on.Locally, vodafone are polite but basically seem as much in the dark as I am. This seems strange given that Vodafone group obviously have a worldwide agreement with Google to market the Magic as a 'Google Experience' product.Google simply don't respond personally on the forum and the only help comes from forum long timers who link to a page on the market site that is completely out of date - it has had the same typos for months!
As far as I can work out, availability of paid apps to customers seems to be somehow coupled to whether developers in your country can submit paid apps to the market at large. I'm sure there is a reason for this, but it seems pretty weird, given that Google Checkout works in NZ already. If Google are serious about taking on the iPhone store, then they really need to address this urgently, crippling their users by only allowing distribution of paid apps in half a dozen (mostly European) markets is crazy - especially given the enormous potential of markets like China, which doesn't have the iPhone. The other worrying aspect is the lack of professionalism in the handling of this by whoever is responsible for the Market project. If Google wants to play with the big boys then they need to start behaving like grown-ups and take some lessons in customer service.

I live in Singapore which does not have any paid applications yet.I see a lot of good applications that I want but cannot get because they do not have a free version (for example RemoteVNC Remote)Is there any way to get paid apps in a country which does not support the paid marketplace?I do not want to use pirated software, however if this is the only method I would not mind donating the money to the dev and then downloading a cracked file.

Also what happens with my apps? can I download the ones I've paid for again (onto the new device)? etc.

I originally setup my Droid with my Google Apps account as primary. A few months ago I decided to buy a paid app in the Market and couldn't do so using my Google Apps account. Reluctantly, I added my Google Account as a secondary account on my phone, which allowed me to purchase apps in the Market. Now that I can finally use Google Checkout with my Google Apps account, I would like to remove my Google Account from my phone, since I'm tired of being prompted to select an account each time I create a new contact. Will removing my secondary account affect apps that are already installed? What about when updates become available for these apps in the Market?
