Android : Programmaticly Adding Playlists

Aug 29, 2009

I've been banging my head against this for over a day now. How do I get a play list file (extension .m3u) to show up in the media player programmaticly? I figured out how to add .mp3 files by handing them to the media scanner. When I hand the play list file to the media scanner it does nothing. If I run the "Dev Tools" > "Scan Media" or unmount and remount the sdcard the playlist shows up. So how can I add the playlist or how can I tell the system that there is a new play list file it needs to add?

HTC Desire : Adding Playlists With WMP

May 5, 2010

I've been trying to find a decent music and video managing set up for my desire. I've a 16GB memory card so I want to be able to manage it easily,

I've tried several options but in the end I decided to go with Windows Media Player, however the one thing I want most it doesn't appear to do....at first anyway.

I've some smart playlists made but when I sync it just makes sure those songs are on my device, it doesn't actually go an make a playlist in the music app on the device,

How can i get this working? I've ticked the box to sync it in sync preferences but as i said it just makes sure all the songs are on the device and doesn't actually add the playlist itself

Android : MediaMonkey WMP And Playlists

Feb 22, 2010

From my research, I've found that this seems to be an ongoing problem...

First off, let me lay this out there for any Google Execs who may be reading: Create a media player app for Windows/Mac which will sync music AND playlists (along with ID3's - including lyrics) to Android phones.

MediaMonkey does a good job of copying audio files over to the SD card. Big deal, I can do that manually. I don't want to have to use my iPod anymore. I want my Hero to be my Phone/Media Center. It is a royal pain to go through on the phone itself to create playlists.

Bottom line... Has anybody had any luck creating playlists on a PC (whether it be with iTunes, MediaMonkey, WMP, etc) and then syncing those same playlists to your HERO?!

I LOVE everything about my Hero except for this downfall...

Android : Wikitunes Playlists - How To Delete

Feb 21, 2010

I am using TuneWiki and I am having a hell of a time with playlists. Not making them, that is a snap using Winamp, but getting rid of them when they are not wanted. Sometimes playlists seem to self generate from file transfers (am pretty sure I could find those root files on SD card), but some are just not used anymore and are empty. If I could consistantly delete them in TuneWiki it would be no sweat either, but no all will give that option when I hold my finger on them. So where are they stored on the SD card, and if not there how can I get rid of them?

Media : Can Use Smart Playlists With An Android

Jul 23, 2010

I am seriously considering getting the new Droid X and giving my old iPod Touch to my wife. On the iPod, I make use of Smart Playlists that use an one criteria: Plays = 0. When a song or audio book is played, it disappears from the Playlist.

Will I be able to do this with Android? I have read about DoubleTwist as a program that will allow me to sync from iTunes, so it might accomplish this (can't test it, since I don't have the Droid yet). I am not locked in to iTunes, so if there is a Mac program that would sync better, I could move my audio material over there.

Android :: App Allows PC Music Playlists To Sync To Phone?

Jul 8, 2010

Is there an application for my PC that will allow me to create playlists and then sync them to the phone? I have tried an aplication called Double Twist that is SOOOO slow to sync with my existing itunes library and then when it syncs with the phone it does not put all the files on the sd card. For example i tried to sync a playlist with over 1000 songs but only got 93 on the phone, go figure! An application on the same lines as double twist would be awsome if it worked. I dont like Windows Media Player so i'm trying to avoid tht route.

Android :: Reordering Lists Like Playlists In Media Player

Apr 1, 2010

I have a list of items that are displayed using a ListView from a SQLCursor. The SQL table includes(as well as other things) a _id field and an order field. I use the order field to sort the list before it gets to the ListView. What I need is a widget like the MediaPlayer has in its playlist view. It allows you to click the icon and drag the item in the playlist around and put it into a new order. With that ability I can then retrieve the new order and update the SQL table with the new order. However, I am not having any luck finding any clues to help me add that functionality into my program. The question is whether I can use existing functions to help me, or do I need to manually program motion events and such until I get nearly the same functionality.

Android : M3u Playlists - Native Player Doesn't Support

Mar 8, 2010

The native android player doesn't support .m3u playlists. A Online Radio, DroidLive, and StreamFurious all support .m3u playlists, but they are intended for streaming radio, not playing your own playlists. Because of this there is no next song or previous song functionality, which is pretty important for me. Anyone know a program that can do this?

HTC EVO 4G :: Put M3u Playlists And Certain Players

Aug 10, 2010

For the life of me I couldn't get any of the players besides Doubletwist to play my m3u playlists! Doubletwist worked but it was just waaayyyy to slow. I come from the iPhone and iPod where it was super easy to get your music on your device. So with that said, and this may be knowledge that most of you already know, but Im gonna post it because it may help someone.

I created a folder titled "Music" in the root section of the SD card. Opened up iTunes and found the playlist I wanted to have on my EVO. Right clicked on the playlist title (in itunes) and exported the playlist as an m3u file on my desktop. Opened the Music folder on my EVO and simply dragged and dropped the m3u file into the music folder. Then, I went back to iTunes, selected all the songs in that playlist, and dragged and dropped those songs into the Music folder on my EVO.

Disconnected the EVO after the transfer was complete and fired up Btunes. BOOM! My playlist and all corresponding songs were there! I checked Doubletwist and the playlist showed there too! So I hooked the EVO back up and transferred a bunch more playlists (about 6 gigs worth) and Btunes and DoubleTwist showed those too! So right now, Btunes and DoubleTwist (the only two I tried) work with this method. While it may not keep track of playcounts and things like that, it does work for now.

HTC EVO 4G :: Getting Music AND Playlists

Aug 8, 2010

I have tried the stock player, Doubletwist, 3cube music players and methods to get music and playlists onto my EVO. Doubletwist was the only one that worked but it is too slow! It takes almost an hour to sync 500 mb's of music to the phone! I tried itunesmywalkman and that was just as bad! The end result is I just want to be able to put my playlists from iTunes on and off my EVO and have a GOOD music app actually read and populate my playlists! I'm pretty tech savvy and I can't figure this out! BTW, i'm using an iMac and I have over 40,000 songs.

HTC Incredible :: Music App Won't See Playlists

Sep 17, 2010

I've searched the web, and the androidforums, and haven't found anything about this, so I figured I'd give it a shot here. About 2 or 3 weeks ago the Music app just stopped reading playlists right. Music can see all the play lists, it just can't find any of the songs. All the files are still there, and oddly, double twist can still read the play lists fine, and get to music. Has anyone run into this, or had any ideas on what could be causing it?

HTC Magic : Playlists Or Directories Not Going Away

Sep 16, 2010

On my HTC-03A, it has Android 1.6. I can't upgrade because Docomo won't let me.

Anyway, I thought the version would be relevant to my question.

It's a small issue, but in the default music player, when I look at the library, there are directories and play lists there which I have long since removed from the SD card. I also have 3 different play lists titled "podcasts", and I don't know how that happened.

I thought it might be the default music player at fault, so I downloaded Mixzing, but it showed the exact same playlists, empty and deleted ones and all.

So something on my Android is hanging on to old information somewhere.

Any idea where and how I can edit it so that I can clean up my play lists?

HTC Incredible :: Sync ITunes Playlists With Mac

Jun 9, 2010

There has got to be some way to do this. I playlists in itunes that I want to sync with my incredible. I'm using a mac. At first I was just dragging and dropping the files, which works fine, except there are no playlists. I tried salling mediasync, it copied the songs, but not any playlists. I also get about half of the songs that won't play and message "unable to play files of this type" on the phone. So, is there a streamlined way to copy playlists from itunes to the incredible without downloading 2-3 different applications?

HTC EVO 4G :: Does ITunes Agent Sync Playlists?

Jul 31, 2010

I was under the impression that iTunes Agent allowed the user to Sync playlists to their device from iTunes. It looks as though it's only allowing me to add music without any playlists??? Am I doing something wrong? Or missing something? So far I have had no luck with FREE programs to allow me to sync my iTunes playlist with my Evo. It's becoming very frustrating. I thought that it was going to be an easy and FAST process to sync my music but it's more of a pain in my arse! I have tried DoubleTwist which is crap. IMO, it never recognizes my device and takes hours, or at least it seems to actually sync my device, when of course it actually recognizes it. I wasn't planning on spending any money on a program but looks like I may have to since I want to keep iTunes as my media player on my laptop. This is one thing I miss about my iPhone. It was soooo simple to sync my music and playlists.

I guess there is a way around it by viewing the recently added playlist and just create a playlist from there, but any help with this would be great.
