I have HTC Desire, and I know that I have QuickOffice. The problem is when I put a word or excel file on the .quickoffice folder on my phone, nothing comes up on the mobile when I disconnect. Therefore I was wondering if anyone could recommend me a program where I can either write, or read written files like Word and excel files?

I want to access camera pictures and camera pictures only. I could not find a specification of how the default camera application stores pictures...
1) Is /sdcard/DCIM a standard of any kind? On the Android devices I've used, it looks like the default camera app always writes to this location. Are there devices where pictures are written to a different location? 2) Is it specified that camera JPEGs will always be accessible on the file system? (And not in some private database for example?)
I'm hoping that if the above two are true, then I can simplify my code by simply reading the jpeg's in /sdcard/dcim. Or do I have to use MediaStore.Images.Media.query() for reliable access to camera images?

My application writes data to a file in the SD card directly. There are no errors during the write. But, the file never shows up on the card, in the file browser (on the device - I use Glance). Where did the file go? When trying to browse the device from my desktop, I notice the USB Mass Storage option is missing guess that's expected since others in the forum explain that it was removed in this version. But, I can't get my PC to browse the memory card when it's stored in the phone. This all just seems to add up to a flaky memory management problem, but I can't be sure.

I searched the forums and other suggested threads and could not find that this has been directly addressed.
Two subquestions:
1) Has Adobe, the actual Adobe company, put out a "free reader" application for Android? (like they seem to do for every other computing platform I can think of)
2) Whether Adobe has or not, what is the best app for viewing Adobe pdf files on an Android smallscreen smartphone? I need to quickly and efficiently be able to view pdf files, and importantly, certain parts of those files. For example, a couple of paragraphs or a graphic that, say, takes up half a "printed" page in a standard Adobe pdf file.
I am working on a private website that will serve all kinds of documents: especially RTF, TIFF, JPG & PDF.This site is for mobile devices, on the iPhone it just works, serves all of those file types right out of the browser. It strips the formatting out of the RTF files but that is ok.
In android I can open an RTF file from Gmail and it opens correctly (again stripped formatting) it even says "Opening as HTML" But in the browser it serves it as plain text with all of the formatting characters.I have had to download a 3rd party tif viewer.And when I click the document button it downloads the tif file and the user has to then click to open it.This is at least semi-workable. The same goes for .pdf files, they have to be downloaded and then opened.I was wondering.is there a way to tell the OS to go ahead and open file type from the browser using a set app? I have a 3rd party RTF viewer installed now but unlike the TIF and PDF, the RTF file tries to open in the browser, it just fails at decoding it.
Basically I want to know how to get a list or array or any type of data about the files that have been stored in an package specific data section. By this I mean that after using something like:
FileOutputStream fOut = c.openFileOutput(fileName, 0); OutputStreamWriter osw = new OutputStreamWriter(fOut);
How can I get a list of the files saved to the data location of my application where this file and other files or saved so that I can choose which file I wish to read or edit. I've searched and searched for this but have not found anything of use any help will be greatly appreciated.
Is anyone aware of a way to view the directory structure and files on a remote server or PC? Is there an existing app for this?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm writing an Android application. One problem is your app cannot contain a file whose uncompressed size is bigger than about 1Mb. I have a serialized object that I want to load that totals about 2Mb. My plan was to split this file into two smaller files, then load the object by combining both files at runtime.
However, I cannot work out how to use e.g. InputStream and ObjectInputStream to specify that I want to read the data from two input streams. How can I do this?
For example, say my object was split between file O1 and O2. How can I say "Load the object by reading the data from O1 then from O2"?
I've flashed different .zip files to my hero, gaps, froyo mms fix, market fix etc. You get the point But I'm wondering how i can view a list of all the things iv flashed. There's a vast amount of material in MSWord format that I wish to read on my Eris. I can save a file as .txt and put it on my SD card using Astro, etc., but Quickoffice and Tulip are the only readers able to read those files - and both are otherwise inadequate. I've never passed the Caliber IQ test. It seems to convert to epub, but none of those readers ever see the result.
My music has ID3 version 2.3 tags (most common). About 10% (2,500) of my music is AAC (.m4a) format which is MP4 tagged. All my songs are very organized into 11 different genres. Everything has a title, artist, and album assigned to it and looks great in my iPhone, iTunes, MediaMonkey, and Mp3tag program. When I add my music to my Samsung Fascinate, it reads the tags of my .m4a music but when I go to genre, things are messy. It appears to be putting albums in the genre section (only with .m4a files). Example: Lets say I have an .m4a of Garth Brooks, Thunder Rolls, No Fences (album), Country (genre)In my Samsung Fascinate player, it will be found in the genre section under "No Fences". If I click "Country" genre where it should be, the song will not be listed there. It seems to be reading .m4a Album tags as genre and not reading the appropriate tag "Country".I hope someone can help straighten this out without having either manually edit each song tag OR convert all of them to .mp3 and deplete the song quality.

I have them all in /res/raw/, and I would like to access those resources in my native library with functions such as fopen() and such.
