Android :: Preparing SD Card - Checking For Errors
Sep 7, 2010
Since I got my 16 GB Card it's started saying it for longer than with my 2GB Card, however it says it less now. Does how long it takes depend on how much data you put on since taking it out of USB Mode? Because when I first got this card I wrote a lot to it (Moving all my files over), but now I just put a few files here and there on... Is there a way to disable this and let you run it manually at your leisure?

I am rooted, s off, 2.15 radio, running Froyo from Incredible_Froyo_3.21.605.1_rooted_unmodified_sign ed.zip. Everything is running fine. I can access the SD card and the phone storage without any errors. However, I have a constant notification that reads "preparing phone storage.....checking for errors....." I took out the SD card before booting, and I still have the error message. Therefore, it is not the SD card. I have searched around and cannot find a way to get rid of the message.

ive had this phone for 5 days, after switching from an iphone. its seems great but i found a trick which was Turning on USB Debugging mode after i found it was behaving quite laggy today. But since doing this the phone when turned completely off and turned back on again doesnt boot up as quick as when i first got it. It goes to a htc logo. then loads another htc logo, does the jingle, then says preparing the sd card, a limited services message comes up and then the phone loads up

I'm new to the forum and I'm hoping someone can help me out. My BH2 is stock not hacked or anything and the first time I had it, I used the USB cable to transfer songs onto my SD card. Now when I tried it again, I connected the USB and it's in charging mode and I went into the notification menu to mount the SD card, it says preparing external SD card but then it stops and does not connect to my PC. Also the PC cannot detect any device connected to it.

Android Version: 2.2
Network: Telstra NextG
Taskiller Used?: Advanced Task Cleaner installed but not normally used to kill/FC
Are You rooted & which Rom: not rooted - stock
Recently upgraded to Froyo, which is when this problem started occurring. After removing the charger, the Desire notifies that it is Preparing SD Card (in other words mounting it). This means Apps2SD is a no go, as it stops any app installed this way, when is mounts the SD card.

when I tried to use my camera it has the message "preparing sd card" and never lets me use the camera. I can switch to camcorder mode and that works just fine but whenever i switch back to camera mode i get the preparing sd card message. My first thought was that the card was somehow corrupt, but I am able to play mp3s and watch videos from the card with no issues. I also opened astro and navigated to the DCIMcamera folder and i am able to view the pictures in the gallery that i've taken with the default viewer. when i'm in camera mode and try to view the gallery it just says no media found. I have tried rebooting and pulling both the battery and sd card, putting everything back in and powering back up, but it still does the same thing. Anyone ever seen this or have any other advice on a possible fix?

I recently updated my Desire to 2.2 (stock Telstra update) and quickly moved some apps to the SD card to free up some phone storage. Since then I've noticed that after longer periods on standby (definitely hours - haven't worked out the lower limit yet), when I wake the Desire it notifies 'Preparing SD Card' and all the apps appear to have closed. By the apps having closed I mean the weather widget has to load, my Agenda/schedule widget has to load, my Dolphin HD browser starts afresh, etc. I had moved Dolphin to the SD card but not the widgets. The experience is kind of like after startup, so i'm presuming its all apps, but it may not be all - its certainly more than just the apps on SD.
To be clear, the SD card does mount fine, and I've had no other indications of SD card problems before or after the Froyo upgrade. I've seen reference to partitioning the SD card, but am not sure why I would do it or if it is relevant here. Is this a known problem with moving apps to the SD card, or is it a known problem with the Desire 2.2 update? Is it just me?

Just updated to 2.2 and phone/sd card will mount to pc but then it randomly acts like it has been unplugged and plugged by in. For instance I was copying a 1gb file from the phone to the sd card and it was copying for all of 20 seconds then it was gone then it was back and wanted to know if I wanted to copy over the existing files that had been transfered before the disconnect (or whatever). It does this on both the sd card and the phone memory; anyone else have this problem? Have a solution? Oh, and this is done over the same usb cable I have been using for months without the slightest problem.

I get my Models in a nice object-oriented form. In order to bind them to my List, I have to use the listAdapter. Can I only fill this listAdapter with stupid ArrayLists? Because that means, I have to iterate over my ModelCollection and pull all the data out of my Models again. So, I detach my data from the models and I cant easily refresh the data in my listView, if something chances in the modelCollection (like becoming bigger through new Items / pagination). Does a more intelligent way exist, than I use right now? Can I bind my ModelCollection more driectly to the listView?
ModelCollection modelCollection = ModelCategory.findAll();
/*
* Prepare Data for Adapter
*/
ArrayList<String> itemTitles = new ArrayList<String>();
// Iterate over my ModelCollection and pull all the Data from each Model
for (int i = 0; i < modelCollection.items.size(); i++) {....................

About to make the commitment to rooting and flashing to Fresh 1.1, but before I start on that path, I just want to detail my plan and ask a few questions. This is my first time rooting
1. Download that one program to downgrade/take off that recent firmware update
2. Download Fresh 1.1
3. Download File manager (any suggestions?)
4. Follow one-click rooting steps
5. Flash to Fresh 1.1
6. Download/use Nandroid to create a backup
7. Download and install patch for browser's flash player
Am I leaving anything out? Does the order look correct?..................

I have updated my contacts and Google Calendar in preparation for the Captivate. Anxious to get going. I have spent quite a few hours reviewing one 13 page thread of 'favorite apps', and put together a list that I interest in looking at. I have some searching to do for some things that didn't come up. Priorities are good Calendaring; Easy use of voice for calling contacts; Financial Software to track stocks. Many other things of interest. Here is what I probably will be installing for sure some time fairly quickly (not all of my interests are met in this list): NOTE: The links may take you to a descriptive site, or may take you to a review..............

i ve a Hero with Build Number "2.73.707.9". It was bought in Singapore from the carrier SingTel. I ve read thru the instruction in the thread "How To Root + Install Custom ROM + Backup + More", but there dun seem to be an appropriate way for my Hero, since the method for South East Asia model is for "2.73.728.5" instead. so will that same method work for my Hero (aka the Gold Card method)?

I would like to check whether there is any direct API available to check whether a particular Database exists or not ?
Currently, to initialize data for the first time (not repeatedly), we try of open the db and if it fails we know the database does not exists otherwise it is already created and initialized.
Is there any simple API available to check whether DB exists or not ?

I am working on a simple app for the HTC EVO that blinks the alternate notification LED when a new text message is received. I have this part working great via a Broadcast Receiver but I need some way to turn the LED off when the user has read the message(s) using their default SMS app. I'm not sure if it is best to do this in the receiver or in a background service.

Anyone know how to check the user's country? I'm looking for a way that's faster than using GPS and reverse geocoding. (I need the country where the phone is registered, not their current location, in any case.) Is there any constant in the settings?

Is there a way to programmatically without root check and see how a program was installed?
The only solution I've been able to find is using root - and tapping into a database that the Vending application uses;
CREATE TABLE assets10(_id INTEGER PRIMARY KEY AUTOINCREMENT, content_uri TEXT, s tate TEXT, download_pending_time INTEGER, download_start_time INTEGER, install_t ime INTEGER, uninstall_time INTEGER, size INTEGER, type TEXT, package_name TEXT, is_forward_locked TEXT, signature TEXT, refund_timeout INTEGER, version_code IN TEGER, server_string_id TEXT UNIQUE);
Most specifically I can check to this database using my package name and/or signature and see if it's ever been installed by the market. Then if it has you could check to see if it's been uninstalled.
As for background, I'm just messing around with ways to distinguish real users from pirated versions. I've noticed from an application I've posted that I only have approximately 100 downloads and 50% active, yet my server which is used by the application shows approximately 200ish unique users within the past few days.

I am doing an experimental project and want to send key events from one application to another. I know android doesn't allow applications to interfere each other in this way due to security concern. Is there any way i could bypass the security check? I've looked into the WindowManagerService class and made some modifications but it seems not working for me.

I have an IntentService which makes some web service calls. Before making these calls I check to make sure the device has network connectivity.
I am doing so like this:
CODE:.............
Unfortunately, when I'm debugging on my Android device, this returns false when I have both a network and a wireless connection.
Some interesting tidbits about connec.getNetworkInfo(0):
CODE:...................
Clearly this code is not sufficient (perhaps it would only return true if I sent some bit over the network and turned the radio on?). Moreover, since I'm not well versed in the ConnectivityManager, I'm assuming I should probably be scanning all networks (ie: getNetworkInfo(0 through N)).

Actually I am checking the code flow of NFC in Android-ICS.But i got stuck because of some files are not present in ICS.
Like :
GB code -> WriteTagActivity (to write into a TAG)
ICS code -> no files.
Some more files are also missing in NFC and TAG.
