Android :: Obtaining/calculating Process CPU Usage

May 4, 2009

How can I get/calculate current process CPU usage? ActivityManager provides method that returns a list of all active processes (list of RunningAppProcessInfo), but that class doesn't provide any CPU usage information.

Is there any way to programmatically retrieve data that reports on application usage as shown in the Spare Parts application? I know what calls need to be made, but it seems that they all use internal APIs...is this true?

Android :: Calculating Direction From Point A To B

Sep 17, 2010

I'm trying to create a compass for my application BUT the difference is that, instead of having a line always pointing to north, I want this line to point for a specific point. I've been trying dozens of algorithms and nothing works. I've finally found one that points me exactlly to the point I want. But it doesn't move if I change the position of the device which is my objective. Basically, what I want is that no matter the direction I'm using my device. The line always point me to the point (picLatitude,picLongitude). I understood that for the line to move, I can't use static variables. I need to use the values offered by the onSensorChanged(SensorEvent event). This are the data I have available:

event.values[0]: azimuth, rotation around the Z axis (device in relation to north, 0º) event.values[1]: pitch, rotation around the X axis event.values[2]: roll, rotation around the Y axis mLatitude: device current latitude got from GPS (variable) mLongitude: device current longitude got from GPS (variable) picLatitude: static picture latitude established previously picLongitude: static picture longitude established previously distance: distance in Km from device to the picture calculated previously

And this the formula that works correct, and gives me the correct angle. (But it doesn't use any of the Sensor Data so the line Compass doesn't move):
double dLong = picLongitude - mLongitude; double y = (Math.sin(dLong) *
Math.cos(picLatitude)); double x = (Math.cos(mLatitude) * Math.sin(picLatitude) - Math.sin(mLatitude)*Math.cos(picLatitude)*Math.cos(dLong)); double angleDegreesWrongRange = Math.abs(Math.toDegrees(Math.atan2(y, x))); float angleDegrees = (float) ((angleDegreesWrongRange+360) % 360);
myCompass.updateDirection(angleDegrees);
I got this "bearing" formula from this website: http://www.movable-type.co.uk/scripts/latlong.html. I've try adding, subtracting, the azimuth.. I've tried with the others, seriously at this point I'm just demoralized.

Android :: Calculating Map Routes On Droid?

Sep 7, 2009

I am trying to calculate a route based based on either geographic location or address. I figured the obvious way would be to use some part of the built-in Google Maps package, but it proved harder than assumed. There used to be a package called com.google.googlenav, but from that disappeared with the 1.0 release of the Android SDK.

I know that Google Maps has a public JavaScript API, but since the application is developed for the Android (in Java) and I would like to have an offline alternative, is there any other library packages, built-in or 3rd party, that I can use to achieve this?

Android :: Remote Service Process Persists - I.e. Won't Disappear From Process Table

Feb 21, 2009

At a certain point in my program, when I'm completely done with my service, my activity executes unbindService() and stopService() -- yet the process persists. I can tell that it persists because I run "ps" in "adb -e shell":

CODE:.............

"adb logcat", I can show you the sequence of events:

ACTIVITY: context.unbindService(serviceConnection);

SERVICE: onUnbind();

ACTIVITY: stopService(serviceIntent); & returns true!

SERVICE: onDestroy();

First, my activity calls unbindService(serviceConnection). According to the documentation, unbindService() will "Disconnect from an application service. You will no longer receive calls as the service is restarted, and the service is now allowed to stop at any time." So that is fine, and it is happening.

Appropriately, we see the onUnbind() call happen on the service side. According to the documentation, onUnbind() is called when "all clients have disconnected from a particular interface published by the service." So this confirms the correct service connection is being passed, and that the service is responding accordingly.

Next, my activity calls stopService(serviceIntent), and returns true. According to the documentation, stopService() does the following: "If there is a service matching the given Intent that is already running, then it is stopped and true is returned; else false is returned." Again, this is happening and returning true.

In response, the service's onDestroy() method is called. According to the documentation, onDestroy() is "Called by the system to notify a Service that it is no longer used and is being removed. The service should clean up any resources it holds (threads, registered receivers, etc) at this point. Upon return, there will be no more calls in to this Service object and it is effectively dead."

At this point I expect the process to disappear from the process table. Yet it remains indefinitely. But why?

Also, the process is so persistent that I can bind to it again, and I see that it is the same exact process responding because the PID (process ID) is the same!

Samsung Moment :: Getting Process Com.google.process.gapps Stoped Unexpectedly

Apr 17, 2010

I've searched around the forums (here and SDX forums) and although it seems the few people that had this issue were able to solve it, my case seems a bit different.

It's different because of the people I've read solving the issue, it was a problem with something they changed / removed with gmail / gmail storage or talk / talk storage. And when they cleared the cache or re-installed the problem went away. Also, it seemed that the same people had a problem with downloading from the market...

Neither of the above apply to me, but yet I'm still getting this FC error all the time!

I was helping a friend with their CL14 Moment out of the box...and went from stock 1.5 CL14 to 2.1 DD03 w/Joey recovery to EclairDD10 and v5 root. I then did the streaming media fix, and then the private app (build.prop) fix (all previously done with my phone no problems). I did all of these update right in a row, and after my last re-boot the FC error (process com.google.process.gapps has stoped unexpectedly) started showing up and won't go away.

The only .apk / odex files I removed were the preloaded Sprint apps

Does anybody have any other ideas on how I can get this FC error to stop? I've tried clearing the cache / data for all the mail / talk apps, rebooted, cleared dalvik cache...

Android :: Obtaining Exact SDK Source

Sep 2, 2009

I was hoping someone could give me instructions to obtain the *exact *source code for the current SDK. What I have so far is as discussed here; http://androidforums.com/android-developers/1045-source-code-android- By using commands such as; repo init -u git://android . git . kernel .org/platform/manifest.git -b android-sdk-1.5_r3 jar cvf ../android-src.jar -C core/java . etc. my issue is that the source is still inconsistent, some extra methods are available and some are not. For example, I want to make a progress bar with two sliders (To select a range) but the version of Progress bar I have; http:// android .git.kernel.org/?=platform/frameworks /base.git;a=blob ;.http://android .git.kernel .org/?p=platform/ frameworks /base.git;a=blob;> I cannot mimic (as an initial implementation), despite using the same package and extending View I do not have access to 'mMinWidth' for example. In addition the progress bar uses methods of the class StateList Drawable which are not available in this SDK (e.g. getStateSet(int i)). It's obvious that there's an inconsistency between the source I have and that which was compiled into the android SDK but I don't know why given my GIT repo commands. Can someone link to the version of ProgressBar which was shipped with android-sdk-1.5_r3? Has anyone managed to get the branch which maps directly to this release? This might well be due my inexperience with Git, please let me know if anyone has this set up correctly and I will try again. I seem, in all honesty, to have the head revision still.

Android :: Obtaining SurfaceView Dimensions

Jul 6, 2010

I'm trying to develop a little game, with 2D Graphics. I want my "gaming board" to be at a specific position on my screen, so that I can display in-game informations above and below the box. But since there is beginning to be a lot of Android phones out there, I was thinking about getting "dynamic" values so that I can adapt my font size to every device.

My game is not in full screen (but it could be, it's no big deal), but in a window with no title bar.

I'm using an extension of the default SurfaceView class, implementing SurfaceHolder.Callback. I tried writing the following method :

CODE:................

But the values returned are zeroes.

(even if it means changing display strategy) ?
