Android :: Obtaining Data From Sensors Without Listeners

May 24, 2010

I have following code:

CODE:...........

Code is working but here goes my problem: when I call it from main activity in this way:

CODE:........

Then i can see 10 times result of 'doing sth else!!!' and when loop is over i can see then result from activity. So sensor activity waits for some reason and then when main activity has nothing to do, sensors are doing their job.

of course I have well implemented: onActivityResult(int requestCode, int resultCode, Intent intent)

I want to read sensord data directly, not using listeners, is it possible?

Android :: Access Sensors Data Directly

Nov 13, 2010

I am looking for a way to get sensors' data ( especially Accelerometer) directly without using Listener approach. Actually I need to have the data really fast! I can not find any way to read sensor data by myself. Anybody knows anything about it? Is it possible to read data with more than 50Hz?

Android :: Sensor Listeners - Threads And Responsiveness

Jun 24, 2010

I have two questions about sensor listeners

1. from which thread are sensor values updated and should this be synchronized? can sensor's listener callback be a good place to call custom's view onDraw method? as this should be done from different thread. I cant find anything about it. In another words my problem is that I want to listen to sensors change and draw something on view surface but I dont know which thread (the main thread of the application?) is updating sensor's state

2. If I register sensor listener with SENSOR_DELAY_FASTEST my application is not responsive at all! Raw application with TextView only is not reacting to go back or home button! How should I deal with this or am I doing something wrong?

Android :: Running Listeners In Separate Threads

Aug 25, 2009

I would like to know how to run a listener on an isolated thread. Because I would like to use a LocationListener and make some calculations in the main thread. So the LocationListener would be "slow down", because of those calculations. Is it possible to have it run in a different thread? Or is it by default in a separate thread?

Android :: How To Register For Multiple Sensors?

Oct 10, 2009

A simple question: How do I register for multiple sensors? I just switched from registerListener(SensorListener listener, int sensors, int rate), which is deprecated, to registerListener(SensorEventListener listener, Sensor sensor, int rate). Previously, I could use " | " to indicate multiple sensors, but now " | " is undefined, so how?

Android :: Filtering Sensors Noise?

May 21, 2010

I'm programming an Augmented Reality application. It's development it's in an advanced state but I can't place the icons on the screen so still as anothers programs does (Layar, in example). This is because of the continuous variations of the sensors. I've tried the three modes of the sensors (FAST, GAME, and NORMAL) but I only get them to move more or less fast. The shivering is the same at different speed.

Finally I thougth I could reach my goal with a digital filter, averaging historical values. But again the icons continues moving, specially the most far placed ones (in the z axis). Please, could some one help me with some clue?

Last night i have downloaded Dolphin to play Wii Games. As you can imagine, play with the mouse is not as comfortable to emulate Wiiremote.

My idea is basically:

Control WII emulator with Android Sensors (As accelerometer, gyroscope, inclinometer) like Wiimote does

It seems to be quite interesting, I think that may be connectable by wifi and bluetooth with receiver (pc).

Android :: Sensors Don't Work On Partial Wake Lock

Jan 20, 2009

The accelerometer turns off when the screen is off. I'm guessing this is a bug but I haven't seen it logged. Am I missing something?

Perhaps the power management features need some improvement - the ability to specify what components are needed during a partial_wake_lock so that power can be conserved as efficiently as possible.

BTW, there is a bug logged noting that onSensorChanged() continues to be called for the orientation sensor (during sleep) but the values are not being updated.

Android :: How To Read Sensors From Home Screen Widget (1.5 Cupcake)?

Aug 11, 2009

I am having a difficult time figuring out a way to read the sensor data from a home screen widget. I can successfully create a home screen widget that extends AppWidgetProvider. I can successfully create a stand-alone application that reads sensor data (extends Activity). What seems to be impossble (for me) is combining them into a home screen widget that reads sensor data. The classes that you have to use, like SensorManager, SensorListener all seem to require an Activity which the AppWidgetProdiver doesnt have. I have also tried keeping my sensor data reader in a separate class that extends Activity and then instantiating that class in my widget. Makes sense in my head but no data is ever read from the sensors.

Android :: Obtaining Exact SDK Source

Sep 2, 2009

I was hoping someone could give me instructions to obtain the *exact *source code for the current SDK. What I have so far is as discussed here; http://androidforums.com/android-developers/1045-source-code-android- By using commands such as; repo init -u git://android . git . kernel .org/platform/manifest.git -b android-sdk-1.5_r3 jar cvf ../android-src.jar -C core/java . etc. my issue is that the source is still inconsistent, some extra methods are available and some are not. For example, I want to make a progress bar with two sliders (To select a range) but the version of Progress bar I have; http:// android .git.kernel.org/?=platform/frameworks /base.git;a=blob ;.http://android .git.kernel .org/?p=platform/ frameworks /base.git;a=blob;> I cannot mimic (as an initial implementation), despite using the same package and extending View I do not have access to 'mMinWidth' for example. In addition the progress bar uses methods of the class StateList Drawable which are not available in this SDK (e.g. getStateSet(int i)). It's obvious that there's an inconsistency between the source I have and that which was compiled into the android SDK but I don't know why given my GIT repo commands. Can someone link to the version of ProgressBar which was shipped with android-sdk-1.5_r3? Has anyone managed to get the branch which maps directly to this release? This might well be due my inexperience with Git, please let me know if anyone has this set up correctly and I will try again. I seem, in all honesty, to have the head revision still.

Android :: Obtaining SurfaceView Dimensions

Jul 6, 2010

I'm trying to develop a little game, with 2D Graphics. I want my "gaming board" to be at a specific position on my screen, so that I can display in-game informations above and below the box. But since there is beginning to be a lot of Android phones out there, I was thinking about getting "dynamic" values so that I can adapt my font size to every device.

My game is not in full screen (but it could be, it's no big deal), but in a window with no title bar.

I'm using an extension of the default SurfaceView class, implementing SurfaceHolder.Callback. I tried writing the following method :

CODE:................

But the values returned are zeroes.

(even if it means changing display strategy) ?
