HTC Droid Eris :: Social Networks Update Interval
Dec 24, 2009You can not turn off the twitter update on the eris. You can turn off facebook and flickr updates all together. Anyone know how to address this of if HTC is aware of this bug. I use Seesmic for twitter because peep is ok but kind of lacking on any usefull features and peep is always running in the background no matter if you even kill it.

Dec 11, 2009I received my wife's Eris last night and was setting it up for her. For some reason it wouldn't let me log into her facebook under the social network settings. She wanted to do this so she can see birthdays and have contacts connected with their fbook profiles. It would not let me log her in. It says that the service is currently unavailable. I can log her into the android facebook widget and the mobile site but not this. I started messing around with my Eris to see if I could figure out what is wrong. I logged myself out and now I am getting the same message. I have been using this setting since day one with no problems. My wife has the update and I do not yet. Has anyone else ran into this issue.

Apr 28, 2010I retrieve a JSON list of contacts from a social network site. It contains firstname, lastname, displayname, data1, data2, etc...
What is the efficient way to quickly lookup my local phone contacts database and "match" them based on their name. Since there are firstname, lastname and displayname this can vary.
What do you think, how can the best match be achieved?
Also how do I make sure I don't parse for each JSON item the whole database I want to avoide having JSON_COUNT x MOBILE COUNT steps

Aug 9, 2010I was wondering if its possible to "upgrade" my phone to support different networks? (ie. I have the Desire HongKong, which supports 850/1900 HPSA, but want to know if there is an upgrade I can perform to support more/different networks? Say 900/2100 HSPA?

Sep 3, 2010I've had this phone since Tuesday and it's not made it from morning to night one time. I am using it, yes, but I thought that was the point. My usual routine is wake up, check the twitter/facebook feeds, log in and check email, browse a few web pages, and get moving. today, i did all of that and took a walk and listened to a cd for an hour on the doubletwist player. i took a single photo. and made one very short phone call. it is nearly dead. it's been off the hook since 830 and it's only 3. I could do all this minus the music playing part on my blackberry, which was ancient 8830 and i would still have juice by midnight tonight. and it should be noted, blackberry constantly pushed my email--i have k9 set to manual, as i do with the facebook and twitter/social media widget. so that instantaneous access that's supposed to be so useful and exciting--i don't have it.
i've done all the usuals, turned off the bluetooth, the wifi radio, the 4g radio (the whole point of the damn phone), lowered screen brightness to the very lowest number, making it totally useless in bright daylight and i mean completely useless-can't see to answer a damn call), i have the screen lock to 15 seconds. i have the autosyncing off, i have the whole phone crippled, and it's about to die. does anyone have any suggestions? i was using launcher pro, but want to go back to the standard touchwiz--only bummer is i can't swap out the messaging icon for handcent which i installed over the regular msging app--because ppl said it uses less battery drain-- but not sure how to disable the old one. i am using live wallpapers, but again, how much of a drain can they really be overall? i turned off the animations, is this a lemon? will rooting make it better? will the new upcoming os make it better? or is 6 hours of usage all i can expect? srsly, i would like to know, because if that's the case, i will go back to the blackberry. i don't care how fancy the phone is, if you can't use all the fun things without it dying, then what's the point?

Obviously certain widgets are redundant with Time/Mediascape, but news, weather widgets are a big draw for me.

App Membership And Social Connections
Apr 20, 2012I have searched for this for a while now and have not found what I was looking for (if something like this even exists). Is there an SDK of some sort or a package program that would basically give a place on a server for a database and a membership system that is easily integrated into a android app I am developing? Something that would connect the users in my app like they do in instagram, or words with friends, or pretty much any other multiplayer game. (i am not looking for a facebook connect, or a twitter connect. just something that connects just my app together so to speak)

If that's it doesn't seem too intersting but I assume I haven't set it up properly? Samsung don't seem too good at providing good user documentation.
