General :: Output Music From Supplied Music App To Audio System Using HDMI
Aug 24, 2012
My MID mini-tablet (Android OS 4.0.3) has a mini-HDMI port. I have the mini-HDMI to female HDMI adapter and HDMI cable. Can I output music from the supplied music app to an audio system using HDMI? (Using the headphone jack is not practical due to the low volume output by the device.)

When I connect my Droid RAZR MAXX or ASUS Transformer to my HD monitor, the video displays fine, but there is no sound. I suspect this is because the monitor does not have any speakers, but I was hoping there would be a way to just let the audio play from the device. That's what my laptop does when connected via VGA (which might not support audio anyway; I don't know a lot about the different inputs/outputs).

Is it possible to force Android to output ONLY stereo over a HDMI connection?
My Denon receiver initially receives a stereo signal from my Asus TF700 tablet, but after a few minutes the tablet starts outputting a 7.1 signal (3 front, 4 surround, 1 LFE). I've tried modifying audio_policy.conf but it hasn't seemed to make a difference. Is there anything else I can try, or a tutorial on how to add a limited 'hdmi' entry to the audio_policy.conf?

I have searched a lot over google etc. about knowing if the smartphones with HDMI output capability actually outputs 720p or 1080p on HDTV or it is just that the screen resolution is upscaled to HD..
I can understand that all HD games are high in graphics but they are not actually 720p resolution certainly..but i am talking about HD movies which are of 1280*720 resolution which plays on my xperia neo v like a true HD video with high density of my screen with bravia engine enabled it looks awesome on my mobile..
But my query is when I connect it to HDTV by HDMI cable provided with xperia neo V...the same HD (1280*720) does not seems to be like HD..So is it that it outputs the mobile screen resolution by upscaling even in the case of HD files ?
Is that just happens with xperia neo v or all the android smartphones with HDMI output capabilities just upscales the resolution?
how to make the HDMI output for HD videos look as good as possible..(specially on my xperia neo v)

I am thinking of buying an Iconia Tab A1-810 which I plan to sometimes use to watch movies on my TV. Since it has an HDMI port I assume it will be pretty straightforward but my question is will it be able to output 1080p or at least 720p movies on my TV. Will there be lag or something?

I'm very much interested in being able to send my music/audio from my phone to a DLNA renderer on my home network. There are plenty of individual apps out there to do this, such as BubbleUPnP, Twonky, etc, or even indeed the music app built in to my HTC One X. However what I'm wondering is if there's a way to have all music/audio re-directed over WiFi to a DLNA renderer?
What I'm looking for would be something similar to when you plug in headphones or connect a Bluetooth audio device: any application that plays media has the audio directed to the headphones or bluetooth connection, instead of the internal phone speaker - that's exactly what I want, but with the audio being directed over WiFi to a DLNA renderer. I'd configure the app/service/whatever to send all audio over DLNA, and then it doesn't matter whether I'm using Dogcatcher, Spotify, the built-in Music app or Google Music - all audio automatically gets directed to the DLNA renderer.
Having to use yet another app on top of the various media applications I already use is a real pain; plus I highly doubt any of the existing applications will support Spotify streams (Twonky and BubbleUPnP don't), and I had little success when experimenting with Twonky yesterday. As mentioned my built-in music app already does this so I'm already part of the way there, but I'd like it to be system-wide rather than app specific.
The DLNA renderer I'll be using will either be a standard PC running XBMC, or a headless Raspberry Pi embedded Linux computer; either way they'll both be fully UPnP/DLNA compliant.

I've recently come to the conclusion that the sound quality on the Droid Incredible is sub-par. I'm talking about the headphone output when playing music MP3's or Pandora streaming ... not call/reception quality. The sound is just not as clear, bass is very muddy, and treble is compressed.
Anyone else make these observations? Maybe it's just my phone? Fwiw, I compared the Inc against a Creative Xen Micro MP3 player and a Nu Force USB DAC on my PC. Headphones I tested were with decent Westone UM2 and Grado SR80. Most of my audio sources were electronic / trance MP3's at high bit rate, which tend to have a very full range of bass & treble.
I'm assuming this is just HTC's electronic design ... choice of DAC's, opamps, etc.

add in a script or something to change the volume controls. I would love to be able to set the volume for games at a different level than my music in my music app and would love to have this feature but can't find it anywhere.

Music101 question: Im new to Android and I have a CLIQ.
I just copyied music files from my Windows-based pc the they all copied with no problem. The issue is when I go to play the music I have to force close the app repeatedly then I get an error message saying "sorry player does not support this type of audio file".
Is there an app available to convert files or did I mess up the path in someway that the songs, all mp3's btw, just aren't being located properly?

when I want to stream one particular song I noticed that the Google Play Music app downloads and caches the previous/next few songs for quicker access. How can I prevent this? It uses a lot of data and I usually only want to listen to the one song I chose to stream.
For example if I play a 6 mb song i noticed it uses about 40 mb to stream just that one song. Then I selected a different song to stream and immediately went into settings > download queue and noticed it was loading more songs than the one I requested. I only want to listen to the 1 song I chose, so how can I prevent the other songs from loading? As far as I can see there is no way in the app's settings but there has to be another way to stop this inconvenience.
P.S. I have a T999 galaxy s3 running on stock rooted ICS

I currently have an iPhone 4S and I am probably going to get a Galaxy Note 2 when it comes out for Verizon. In order to prepare for this, I set up Google Play Music to upload my music so it can be ready for me when I get my new phone (I like it better than Samsung's default music player). Only one problem: protected AAC files (or DRM) can't be transferred to Play Music. I tried converting my music with 2 different DRM converters, but they were free trials, and it only would convert 1:00 of each song and then stop. Is there any free way to convert each protected song completely, along with protected videos? Also, does music on Play Music eat up an Android device's space? I have over 12 GB of music and movies and I don't want to have barely any any space left on a 16 GB device if a 32 or 64 GB ever comes out, minus the SD card.

I have music that is playable with Google Play Music player, but not with other players. I have chosen for the music to be "on the device", and it plays when even in Airplane Mode, so I know it is not streaming, but the music files do not show up in my "Music" directory tree, or under any other file trees that I can find. I have used ES File Explorer to do a top down search for some of the missing titles, but it doesn't find them. I'm perplexed. There must be a cache somewhere, but I can't find it.

I downloaded the leaked google music app from ICS, and it works great.
My only caveat is that when I choose to make something available offline, it goes straight to my internal storage (Motorola Atrix).
I have a 32gb microSD card with a dedicated folder for music. Is there a way I can get the offline songs onto there?
I currently use PlayerPro from the market, and I wanted to use the Google cloud for "wirelessly syncing" my music.

I've been an Android user since the G1.
I have a Nexus 4 with a considerable amount of "pinned" music in the Play Music app taking up storage space. This pinning seems to have taken on a life of its own, and I'm finding that the app is permanently storing music locally that I never wanted downloaded.
So my question is this: what's the best way to completely clear everything that's been "pinned" so far, and start over? I knew how to unpin music in the app before the recent design refresh, but now I'm not seeing it anywhere. Is there a way to just unpin everything through the app? Or can I use a file manager or connect the device to a PC and just delete the music files?

I use Google Play Music. Over time, I've chosen certain albums to store locally ('pin') from music.google.com on my Android 2.4 phone. Now I wish to clear these out from the phone in the name of space and begin anew.
Without an apparent way to do this on the phone (?), I connected the device to a computer and wiped out the Android music directory's files manually.
Then, when I returned to my phone's Play Music app and attempted to choose new music to pin to the device, Android is re-downloading *all* of the music I had previously chosen to store locally, completely defeating the purpose of this pursuit.
Is there a way to start fresh on the phone without deleting music from URL....? I simply want to download a select few albums to a device from my Play Music account, not everything I have ever selected to pin since my history with the service.

I use doubletwist for listening to new music that is stored on my SD card. I use Google Music for streaming my favorite tracks that I have uploaded. The problem is Google Music automatically searches my SD card and displays all the music stored on my phone along with the artists/playlists/etc. that I have stored on the cloud, which makes it confusing when browsing the library. Can I prevent Google Music from searching and displaying what's on the SD card, but still allow doubletwist to see it?

I recently started using the Google Play Music free service, so I uploaded my complete music collection with the Music Manager software, everything is cool but I noticed that some of the album art looks kinda bad on my Nexus 7 (I guess is because the resolution). So my question is, if I were to change a tag of a song on my PC, will it be automatic updated to my google play account?

Ive been raking my brains trying to figure out how to play 720p movies on my HDTV in 16:9 aspect ratio (or 1.78), whereas it would fill the screen of the HDTV nicely just like Niko does it in this thread Video Demo: HTC Evo playback of HD/720p movies over HDMI out. I have a couple of 720p bluray movie files on my PC that i want to encode but now im not even really sure if they are really 720p. When i upload them into handbrake, it says that the source resolution is 1280x544 and the other one 1280x528 with a 2.35 aspect ratio. Doesnt the second number have to be 720 in order to be considered true 720p HD resolution? Everytime i try and change the 528 to 720 on hanbrake, it doesnt let me. And also handbrake doesnt havent an option where you can change the aspect ratio. When i finish encoding, i get the stupid black bars. i realize the video file might have been shot in a 2.35 aspect ratio or whatever but when i play it in VLC it allows me to change it to 16:9. Basically, I want the video to come out in 1280x720, 16:9, 1.78 resolution and aspect ratio as its default settings. This would be much easier if VLC was playable on Android. At the end of the day, im just trying to find out how to watch 720p video on the HDTV in fullscreen or almost fullscreen (i know theres a couple of inches of black bars in 16:9) just like the guy in the thread above.

This is the final question for me that has yet to be answered. It's the only thing still left up in the air. I want to be able to plug my EVO into the TV and use all the features currently on the phone. Specifically web browsing. If this is not available can we blame it on a hardware limitation or software. Maybe it's something that will work with the Dock when it's released since it comes with an HDMI cable. I can't believe I can't find a straight answer considering Ive seen the question asked on other forums as well. If it works the way I would hope then it's an easy replacement for my jaloppy of a computer.
