My google maps is not finding me in the correct location
View 1 Replies View RelatedHey everyone, are you able to get your location on google maps? Right after my sprint update it sort of worked, but now it hasn't found my location for days. Any ideas for me?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI've now had and used my Samsung Moment for a full month now, and I have to say this is the best phone I have ever used.
I carry multiple smartphones on me, usually a Blackberry of some sort, Palm Treos / Centros, iPhone, and now my Samsung Moment. While all the smartphones are really good, the Samsung Moment has been really great.
Despite all the complaints you read here, I have only had a couple of minor annoyances:
1. The Google Calendar widget doesn't default to the current day when you click on it. I have accidentally entered appointments for "today" when I realize a bit later that it was on another day that I had scrolled to previously. I hope there will be a setting to always display the current day in the future.
2. I use Astrid to sync my to do list with Remember The Milk. Anytime I add a new task if I'm using the physical keyboard, and slide it shut and go to the portrait mode for the virtual keyboard, somehow my text is wiped clean and I have to start from scratch again.
The battery life is excellent. Based on my moderate use, I easily get 2-3 days out of my phone, which is as good as my Palm Centro or my Blackberries. So glad I have this phone, can't wait for future updates though to play with.
I can't figure out how to tag locations in google maps, or if there's an app I can get that will. IE: when driving across the state I found some places where I wanted to stop on the return trip to take some pictures, so I wanted to mark the lat/long in gps so I could find it later.
View 2 Replies View RelatedSo for some reason my google maps program shows an incorrect gps position for my current location. It has me like 6 streets over . Anybody have any idea as to why this is occurring and how to go about fixing it?
View 4 Replies View RelatedAnyone else using the Layar app and notice that the phone defaults to another location when it cannot see GPS? If I'm inside, my phone thinks it's located in Cork, England, not where I am in the middle of the US. Same issue when I use Google maps. I took it to a Sprint store initially when it just wasn't seeing the GPS and they "fixed" it but didn't know how. I'm pretty sure they just reset the phone and it found the GPS inside the store.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am on DD10, and when I go to use Google Maps Navigation, it just keeps searching for GPS.?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI would like to make my map zoom into my current location.
This current location is defined currently by sending lat and long to the emulator.
How would i go about doing this?

I have a mapview where I want to track the user's current location. GPS as well as 'use wireless networks' is activated in my phone settings.
Nevertheless, since I'm indoor I don't get a GPS fix, therefore the location is determined via network; wifi spot is available.
I have the Google Maps app running as well as my application running.
Strangely, the current location differes between Google Maps and my application, where the Google Maps is very accurate while in my app the location is somehow off a few 100 meters.
In my application I basically do the following (for debugging purposes now):
1) initially place one marker on the map: geopoint retrieved via locationManager.getLastKnownLocation(LocationManager.GPS_PROVIDER);
2) initially place another marker on the map: geopoint retrieved via locationManager.getLastKnownLocation(LocationManager.NETWORK_PROVIDER);
This will put the last known locations of both providers onto the map (eventually last known from outside my app).
3) then for the regular updates (since I don't get a GPS fix anyway indoor here), I do:
locationManager.requestLocationUpdates(LocationManager.NETWORK_PROVIDER, 0, 0, baseLocationListener);
You can see for the frequency and distance I pass the 0 param in both cases.
In the app manifest, the following permissions are granted:
android.permission.ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION
android.permission.ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION
android.permission.ACCESS_MOCK_LOCATION
Actually my baseLocationListener does get called, which I see in the log, but the updated location is somehow the same as the last known current position (of LocationManager.NETWORK_PROVIDER), same lat/lng.
I thought maybe I overlooked something or missed a parameter or setting, or my code has a bug. Therefore I installed some other (3 in total) LBS apps from the Android market that also show the current user's location. The current locations displayed in those apps are equals to the one in my application - and they're all some 100 meters off - but at least all the same.
See the screenshot here:

Now I am wondering:
1) as I understand, getLastKnowLocation is system-wide and not app-wide, why are there differences between the location in Google maps and all the other apps?
2) does Google Maps not update the lastKnownLocation of a provider?
3) does Google Maps use a different custom location provider (i.e. due to licensing reasons) other than GPS_PROVIDER or NETWORK_PROVIDER as they are in the SDK?
4) how do achieve the same accurate result with the NETWORK_PROVIDER like Google Maps does?
Gizmodo has a Black Friday list and just added the Moment at a big discount. About the 12th deal listed under Cell phones. It's supposedly offered from Wirefly. Come on and join us the more the merrier. I got mine from BB @ $99.

It seems that the problem is in the data quality of the different map provider that are used for Google Maps and MapView in SDK, which differ.
The map tiles coordinates don't seem to be very accurate, just like in the public google maps web api / tiles.
See this screenshot for an example, where I pinned the same geo point. http://img339.imageshack.us/i/gmaps2.png/
The map using the public map api is off a few hundred meters. Seems that we just have to live with it.

I have a Rogers Magic on the AT&T network here in the US. Its a 1.5 system.
On my old phone, the BJ-II running WM6, in google maps I could get my not-so-accurate-location from the cell tower. It wasnt aGPS, it was just a rough guesstimate of where I was at.
With this magic, is this functionality just not possible? It seems the only way to get a rough estimate of location is to use wifi of gps.
The igoogle web page is able to get my location though, it knows what city Im in, and its not using wifi/gps to do this, so I dont see why google maps isnt doing the same thing.
Also, I'd like to upgrade to 1.6 but I dont know in my phone is CRC1 or CRC24 or 32a or 32b.
my baseband ver is 62.52S.20.18U_3.22.20.17
my kernel ver is 2.6.27-dd63d1eb u70000@Android-X01
my build num is 2.16.631.6 146733 CL#33776 release-keys
How can I find out my CRC number and the 32 #?
Also, how do i manuall close apps? the "stop app" in "manage applications" isnt working for any of my apps
Is anyone having issues with Google Maps being able to pinpoint your exact location while using the Evo?I used to use Google Maps all the time on my MyTouch, and it would always find my exact location with no problem. But I used it for the first time today on my Evo, and it was always a couple of streets off (not "general" location with the transparent blue circle, but "exact" location w/no circle). This is very inconvenient when using Navigation because it keeps wanting to redirect from a place that I'm not at.I made sure my GPS was on before I started using Maps. I haven't tried using Sprint Nav or any other Nav apps, so I'm not sure if it's a problem with Google Maps, or the Evo GPS.
View 6 Replies View RelatedAny widget that will display a moving google map with my current location centered? There are a couple apps I've found that are close, they just don't update in realtime. The reason I ask is because I have my 7" galaxy tab mounted in my truck. I use a program called torque to add gauge widgets (coolant temp, boost pressure, rpm, etc) to my home screen and would like to have a moving map display as well. I understand this would be a battery hog,but the tablet is always plugged in.
View 1 Replies View RelatedIn system settings, I have Use GPS satellites unchecked but Enable assisted gps checked. Now on my old blackberry, if I didn't have gps turned on, it would still find my approximate location to about a mile using cellular networks. On google maps on the Droid X, google maps doesn't find me at all and simply gives this error"Please enable a my location source in system settings".I don't want to enable full GPS for simple things like finding a local restaurant as approximate location would be fine with this

Ive been on Sprint for a few years now, currently using the Diamond which is the biggest pile of trash ever pushed on to a mobile phone user. With the Big promotions I tried getting the moment throught best buy 179 deal for existing customers but sprint told best buy that I wasnt at 22 months on my current contract ( which is the 500 sero plan through 8/1/2010 ) so I cant get and upgrade ( except 75 bucks off the msrp through sprint ). Im pretty pissed, what options do I have?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI just tested out Google Maps with GPS enabled. it correctly displays my blue dot as to where I am, but I've noticed I have to manually scroll the map when I "drive off of it". Obviously, that's not an option while driving.Does anyone know of a setting that will allow my dot/location to remain centered in the screen while the map scrolls?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI opened google maps and my location is not accurate at all. I understand that if I turn on gps options it becomes much more accurate, but it's a real battery eater. coming from a 2 year old samsung mysto on Helio network that ran google maps down to the meter for me (and only needed to be recharged every 4 days) it seems like this should work better.Am I missing something? That little mysto couldn't have been running active GPS pinging the whole time. What made it so much better at locating?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've been working on an application lately that is using GMaps to display a location that is stored in the devices database. However when no location is available (no GPS signal is available) the user can go through an edit wizard and at a certain point he can add a location himself. I already have to code to display the stored location, but is it possible to write something so the user get's to see a map and when he clicks/touches on a certain area a map pointer appears and the location is stored. Is that possible in any way? Is there any good online documentation available? I searched through this group and on Google but couldn't find anything usefull.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI got a new Wildfire about a week ago and I've been loving it, I used it in London and at home here in Norfolk with no problems until yesterday. All of a sudden my weather location changed to Sheffield. When I went into Google Maps it locked my location to be a park on the outskirts of Sheffield then after a few minutes it would find my real location. I turned off Wifi and using Wireless Networks to locate and it stopped doing that in Google Maps but wouldn't change the weather location and sometimes when I'm using Foursquare it will come up with a random list of places near Sheffield. This morning I wake up, turn on my phone and it decides it's in Aberdeen where apparently it's sunny. That's on the other side of the country and I just can't shake it off my weather gadget.

I want the user to be able to pick a location and be guided through the streets to that location. Does anyone know how to do this, or is it even available in the API?
