Android :: Missing Outgoing SMTP Server
Sep 16, 2010
I was trying to help my dad set up his email address on his new droid. i ran into a problem where his email provider did not have an outgoing email server that they used and they recommended that we use any other. I set him up a new gmail account and entered in all of their SMTP information for the outgoing.
The problem that we run across is when he sends and email using he main email account it gets sent from the new google account because that is the outgoing server we had to us. this causes a problem with having to send from one account and check from another account when people hit reply to you. Is there a way to fisc this and use a different SMTP server as a proxy but have the recipient see the email come from the original account?

My work email works great on my Captivate for incoming, but because of some weird settings at work, I cannot use the outgoing server. As a workaround, I want to set up my incoming as my work address, and then make my outgoing account on that email as a totally separate gmail account. This does not seem to work, so I created a separate account for my outgoing and that worked, but the problem with that is, when I try to "reply" to my incoming mail it does not work because the outgoing is set up on a separate email account rather than on the same one. Is there a way I can make my outgoing a completely separate SMTP than my incoming on the same account?

I had my Hero setup perfectly for few weeks and now the outgoing SMTP login keeps changing to the IMAP login instead of keeping the sprint SMTP address. Happened the other day and thought I did something and fixed the SMTP server info for my sprint account and worked perfectly. Today i try to send a email and does not go to account settings and shows my IMAP login information and not my sprint.

Does anybody know the correct SMTP name for Three network as I have tried all combinations under the sun (smtp-mbb.three.co.uk, smtp.three.co.uk) and they all fail to connect to my NTLWORLD account. Can receive email but sending on the move fails. Three customer service don't know and cant be bothered ringing them up again and hanging on for ages warming up my ear.

"Unable to open connection to server." That's the message I'm getting from my Droid every time I try to set up a connection to my web hosts SMTP server using IMAP. The settings I put in the Droid work fine on my laptop and on my blackberry.
I've tries using ports 25, 1025, 465 and 587. I even tried 143 and 585. Anyone have any clue why this is happening? Anyone else having trouble with SMTP/IMAP connections to their email server? Right now I can't send emails from the Droid and that's a HUGE problem.

I just got a Motorola Moto X with Android 4.4. I set up my work's Exchange Server account on my phone and it syncs email correctly. However, most calendar events are missing. The calendar events that do appear on my phone begin to duplicate every time the phone syncs to the server. These duplicates do not appear when I access my calendar online or on my laptop.
The only trend I see is that any event added after I got my new phone will sync and then duplicate. Older events either do not sync at all, or do sync but then don't duplicate.
Touchdown does work correctly, but I also use Google Calendar so I need all my events to be access by the Android's native calendar application, so Touchdown is not the solution for me.
I have already done the following with no success:
1. Deleted and re-created the Exchange account on my phone.
2. Logged into the web interface for my work's owa server and deleted extra devices/phones configured to sync to the server (based on this thread: Duplicate email/calendar/contacts for Exchange ... | T-Mobile Support)
3. I have already cleared data and caches in my calendar apps, then re-synced.
It's a massive bummer for a scheduling bug like me not to have access to a reliable calendar.

At this point I have gmail and the regular Mail built in (fetching mail from a SMTP server) syncing fine, but they do that separately. Obviously, this means triggering the 3G connection twice, once for gmail and once for the Mail app, which in turn means wasted battery life.
Is there a solution? Is there an app that can trigger them both to sync at the same time?

From BB to Droid I see there is huge difference on emails. Last night I was working with K-9 email.
I have 3 emails: Gmail working OK. Yahoo working OK (using K-9) and there is work account. I can receive emails OK but cannot send any out. Because I cannot use work SMTP server I went and enter my smtp.mobile.mail.yahoo.com port 587 require sign in. There are lots of errors: from push error: null / relay access denied / imap server is not idle capable... Can I have same SMTP under two accounts?

I got a Samsung Galaxy S4 last week. My home internet provider (Bell Aliant) seemingly does not allow SMTP relays from my wireless provider Koodo (Telus). Outgoing email does not send when I am not connected to wi-fi. I've seen this problem mentioned several times on the forum but never a 100% solution. iPhone email client allows 2 SMTP servers to be specified. Are there any android email clients that allow this?
I have a temporary solution where I have the native email client configured with the Bell Aliant SMTP server and K9 configured with the Telus SMTP server. I receive email to each and send from one or the other based on whether I am connected to wi-fi or not.
K9 allows you to configure the account twice but email still comes in twice and each email shows up twice in the combined inbox

I am using Gmail sender function defined here to send a mail to the predefined mail id. But my problem is that I want to embed more text into the body of my mail. The Gmail sender is only accepting one sting to be embedded into the body of the mail. Can anyone tell me how to embed more strings into the body of the mail. If Gmail sender is not efficient method to send a mail then please suggest me an alternative with an example.

Pro's/cons of either setup via the HTC client? I currently have it set up using IMAP, but then I can't access email via WiFi. Yahoo doesn't support IMAP Idle, so it can't simulate push mail. Therefore you need to set a frequency for it to poll.
I was thinking of switching to SMTP so that I could use it at home via WiFi. I already have the IMAP poll frequency set to 1 hour, and could do the same with SMTP. Is there a good reason to stick with IMAP rather than SMTP?

I'm pretty new to the Android here and I just need a little nudge in the right direction I think. I have my gmail account set-up, and a hotmail account set up through the mail application, but I just got a job which provided me with my own email address.
My boss gave me the information to set it up on my phone but under protocol, I only see POP, APOP, and IMAP. He told me the "smtp mail server" so I'm guessing I'm kind of missing something. Do I need to use a different program to get my work emails? Did he not give me all the information I needed to set it up?

Been sending emails from my Tiscali account via smtp.orange.net for months now, but suddenly it stopped working the other day. Now just says 'Unable to send mail' whenever I try.
I didn't touch the phone settings in between the last successful send and the first failed attempt, anyone got any ideas? Have tried the usual, like deleting/recreating the account, plus using different SMTP servers (orangehome.co.uk, 192. etc.) but all to no avail.

I have setup and tested my personal email on my new HTC Desire and all seems fine, then when I get home and manually check my email on my Outlook client I seem to have received about 4 emails but none to my phone. When I go into my settings on my phone, the SMTP server settings for mail have changed. For example when I set it up it should be say:
POP Server: mail.neilsdomain.com
POP Username: neil@neilsdomain.com
SMTP Server: smtp.ispname.co.uk
SMTP Username: neil@ispname.co.uk
I test this and all works wonderfully and mail flows into my phone. Then for some unknown reason when I come out and go back in the SMTP settings have changed by themselves to:
SMTP Server: smtp.ispname.co.uk
SMTP Username: neil@neilsdomain.com. Why would the SMTP Username change?

I've looked through the other SMTP threads on here also, but didn't see anything that seemed to fit. I have a Desire and I use it over a WiFi link in my home, fine for surfing and reading mail, but when I try to set up an outgoing mail account on my 'usual' mail account I run into a problem. Because I travel a lot I use a service called authsmtp to provide me with an smtp address wherever I am, works fine, annual fee is low (not a recommendation, works for me).
However, in order to work it needs an SMTP address of the form mail.authsmtp.com and a password. I can enter the mail.authsmtp.com ok but it always says it cannot check the account. Is this 'cos it cannot check the smtp or is it something else? All the other data seems to be ok.

Is it required to install anything at my server? which I cannot do because of the shared account. Any way to just open the connection, update some data in the MySQL from j2me application?

Got my desire yesterday, having defected from Windows Mobile and spent all yesterday and today getting very frustrated! I successfully set up my various email accounts - except one which requires a SSL outgoing SMTP server on port 465. When I put the correct settings into the setup wizard it simply fails to complete the account setup. If I change any of the fields to an incorrect parameter, it gives an error but at least lets me save the settings and exit the wizard.
With the correct settings in place - it communicates with the server stating: "Verifying account information" and then promptly does nothing (it doesn't hang up, it just returns to the SMTP screen). The only way I can get out of the wizard is to enter an incorrect setting. This means that whilst receiving emails on this account is no problem, I am unable to reply to them or send any emails from this account. I know there is nothing wrong with my ISP (T-mobile uk) because I am using the same SIM from my Touch-pro where this account worked fine for the previous 18 months.

public final Cursor query (Uri uri, String[] projection, String selection, String[] selectionArgs, String sortOrder) Query the given URI, returning a Cursor over the result set.Parameters uri The URI, using the content:// scheme, for the content to retrieve. projection A list of which columns to return. Passing null will return all columns, which is discouraged to prevent reading data from storage that isn't going to be used. selection A filter declaring which rows to return, formatted as an SQL WHERE clause (excluding the WHERE itself). Passing null will return all rows for the given URI. selectionArgs You may include ?s in selection, which will be replaced by the values from selectionArgs, in the order that they appear in the selection. The values will be bound as Strings. sortOrder How to order the rows, formatted as an SQL ORDER BY clause (excluding the ORDER BY itself). Passing null will use the default sort order, which may be unordered.

I am writing a Security-oriented application for Android that is supposed to detect abuse of SMS sending.
In my work I encountered the problem of not being able to detect outgoing SMSs sent not through the use of conventional applications, i.e. merely by using SMS Manager's sendTextSMS method.
The conventional SMS applications add the contents of the sent SMS to the SMS Provider after they send it but I can assume that malicious applications will not do that... and neither will they provide the pending intents to the sendTextSMS method to be broadcast upon sending/ delivery.
My question is, is there any way I can detect the sending of the SMS without relying on the SMS provider?

As far as i know there is no way to detect when an outgoing call is accepted at public API level. I can detect incoming calls (with PhoneStateListener), outgoing calls by NEW_OUTGOING_CALL intent, but i can not find a way to distinguish the dialing and connected phone states.

We are new to Android and creating an application where one of the things we need is to control the outgoing call, at least to be able to stop it from our application. For now we tried using Intent.ACTION_CALL to use existing activity:
Intent callIntent = new Intent(Intent.ACTION_CALL, Uri.parse ("tel:" + phoneNumber)); startActivity(callIntent);
But we can't figure out whether it's possible to stop launched by this default Call activity. Is it possible? If yes, how? If not, what should we use to write our own Call activity to make a very simple call? We would want this activity only to be used by our application, not for all outgoing calls.
