Android :: Messenger That DOESN'T Downsample Photos
Aug 18, 2010
Has anyone noticed how horribly downsampled the photos are when you text them to someone? I'm wondering if there are any settings to send better quality photos or an app that doesn't downsample the photos you text to people.

My friends and I use Google+ Messenger all the time to send quick notes and photos. Over the past 3 weeks or so, any photo I take or post from my phone gives a Remove | Retry error and no one can see it.
I don't use MMS / SMS, so this is my only way of sharing photos. I've tried resetting the app, uninstalling / reinstalling. Tried different ROMS (on my Galaxy Nexus) and the problem is also happening on my wife's Galaxy S3.
Use that feature of G+ / Messenger?

Since I updated to Froyo when the official one was released for the UK my Gallery has been almost useless, it now sorts photos based on where they were taken which I don't want and it doesn't show any new photos/videos I take, possibly because the phone saves them to the external SD card now instead of the internal one. Is there anyway to fix this? I've looked everywhere for some gallery settings but I can't find anything, to change the sorting etc.. Or can anyone recommend a half decent gallery app? I just want something that shows the recent photos I've taken...

Since the Eris doesn't have a flash is there anyway to take good night/dark photos? All the good "kodak moments" happen at night.

Just trying this out on photos of photos. And yes it works. These are my own shots taken with a DSLR, they are printed and hanging and I used my Captivate to photograph them off the wall. The first one I instantly re-tagged because I didn't realize the exact name of what I photographed. Another way to do this is to use a flickr app, like "Just Pictures" that can push shots to Google Goggles for analysis, but I was just trying this straight from my wall. Goggles by nyer82, on Flickr. Is anyone getting the same problem as me when trying to upload photos taken with the camera to Google Photos, directly (from Photo->Menu->Share->Picasa). Photos are uploaded 100% complete but when i go onto Google Photos, the photos are chopped, only top 80-90% are there, the rest is filled with a grey border.

How do I make my contact photo stay as the google photo.I have several contacts who are linked to facebook contacts and have selected the google image are their main photo. Unfortunately some of the contacts seem to keep changing back to the facebook photo after a short while, whilst others remain OK.I have been struggling with this for quite some time, each time I change the selected image back to google but it always changes itself back.

I was just wondering, is there a good MSN/Live messenger app for my G1 yet? I've read about Meebo, but it seems very slow to me.Also, I don't want to do anything with root acces or something like that.
I have a european G1 if that matters.

On Twitter and Facebook I see more and more people posting their Kik usernames. I never would have thought I'd see the day when a BBM-clone would start to get popular past the enthusiast crowd.I'm debating on getting Kik myself but the thing is...it's pretty bare bones. No profile pics, no group chat, no status updates, etc. In terms of free apps PingChat and LiveProfile (baffles me why they would only release the Android beta) seem to offer more.

Would anyone know if/when there will be an official AIM, Yahoo, or MSN messenger app will be released? I don't see how any of those companies totally ignore the android market. I have tried ALL messenger apps on the device and it just doesn't have a solid feel. I recently returned my Eris due to it not having those apps that I mentioned, however would def jump right back once I know its official.

I accept the fact that I can't install Blackberry Messenger on my Droid. This was a very handy app on my Blackberry because it was more instant than a text message (and free which is handy for my BB friends without free texting), and you didn't have to be "logged on" to get a message. I asked the Verizon rep (who's only complaint when he switched to the Droid), and he said Google Talk did the same thing. I installed it and told one of my BB buddies to do the same, but you need to be logged in to get messages. Is Google Talk my best bet or is there something better?

Why can't we just get a good IM app like beejive for android? I have an iPod Touch and every IM app I've seen in the apple app store blows anything we got. Meebo, ebuddu, hi aim, yahoo and all that other crap sucks compared to the iPhone IMs. Is there a way to contact google or someone incharge of the market place to add more IM apps?

I'm about to buy a used HTC Dream (T-Mobile G1), but I'd like to know more about what MSN/WLM clients are available before I do.My ideal client would be a complete straight port of Pidgin. (I understand that porting isn't a straightforward task due to the vastly different environments.) The primary features of Pidgin that I would like to see are WLM connectivity and the ability to keep logs of every conversation locally.I've tried a number of WLM clients by downloading the apks and running them in the development emulator, but they're not suitable for a number of reasons:
- Meebo isn't suitable as my firewall is reporting that it tries to access meebo.com upon sign in. Does this mean that it acts as a thin client (and therefore I would be sending my password to this unknown company)? Also, I can't figure out if Meebo allows you to keep logs.
- Both MSN Talk and MSN Droid have adverts.
- Nimbuzz requires me to create some sort of meta-account, which I assume would allow me to sign into multiple different IM networks using only my Nimbuzz name and password. I'm not interested in anything like that. (Which rules out Trillian, if I recall.)
I want something that runs purely on the phone with no adverts: exactly like Pidgin. This rules out web based services such as Microsoft's own WLM web client and ebuddy (unless there's a native Android ebuddy WLM client that I'm not aware of).Can anybody recommend a suitable WLM/MSN app?

I have tried Ebuddy and I was not very happy with it. I'm looking for just a Yahoo Messenger application. I can't find one anywhere. Yahoo is the only messenger that I use so I don't need all the other messengers on one, and I did not like the way EBuddy was set up.

I switched to my moment from a sidekick. I use Yahoo instant Messenger a lot and on the SK slide it was flawless. Never lagged or dropped connectivity. I have noticed my android native IM app is sluggish at best and since 2.1 the dropped connectivity isn't so much as issue, I was wondering if any of you have found a YIM app that blows the stock out of the water and/or performs as well as the sidekick IM program?
