I have the following situation. Attached is a snippet of code that appears in the OnCreate of my Activity.

The issue is that my layout never gets displayed until the OnCreate method has compoleted. Since my 3 functions takes about 10 secs to complete, I have a blank screen being displayed for 10 secs. This layout has a progress bar which meant to show the progress thru each function.

Our application displays widgets that update every minute through Alarm. It works fine under 1.5 and 1.6 but since 2.0, widget is not displayed at all. Only initial layout is displayed.

I have a SurfaceView which I created with Java code not XML. I created a MediaPlayer which shows its content on that SurfaceView.
When I use, setContentView(mPreview); // where mPreview is a SurfaceView
The video is played on the screen.
I need to add two buttons on the screen. So I tried something like this:

This did not change anything. Still the video is displayed on full screen and no buttons appear. I am a java programmer both SE and ME. Things are done in this way on Java.
Does Android have a different approach?
I am trying to display a bunch of image icons in a grid view, with some basic inductive text on the top. This layout is inside a tab pane. For some reason my application just Fore closes without any stack trace when I do this. Here is my lay out file and the corresponding code that uses it in a tab.

Currently, I have a layout which contains a Button, a TextView and an EditText. When the layout is displayed, the focus will be automatically put on the EditText, which will trigger the keyboard to show up on Android phone. It is not what I want. Is there any way that I can set the focus on TextView or on nothing when a layout is displayed?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI am trying to laod the listview dynamically. There are three textviews inside a listview. The text to be set in the textview is fetched from the server. All this is working fine. I am able to fetch the text and am able to display it inside the listview.
The only problem is the position of the textview. The xml layout file is as under:

If I look at this xml layout in the eclipse layout tab then it is displayed properly. Problem occurs only when the text is fetched dynamically.

The face-detection example (from the opencv 2.4.2) is working perfectly. But now, I would like to create a custom layout and actually work with just the data extracted from face detection and build a game on it. Not necessarily having the FdView surface taking the entire screen.
I have done these modifications below, but just a black screen is displayed. Nothing appears on the screen.

This is the layout that I am inflating in the Adapter. Everything is displayed, but only the second textview which should be displayed at the bottom is getting displayed at the top. Can someone let me know the problem with this?

I have some wierd problem, inside OnMenuItemClickListener, i am calling an alert dialog which i made, but it seems like, when i call the alert dialog, it doesnt show it on right moment, only after onMenuItemClick finish. what am i doing worng?

I'm writing an Activity which fetches some XML from the web via HTTP and then parses it into a DOM. It then pulls some required data from the DOM.
As you can imagine, this takes a few moments, so I put that code into it's own thread and then tried to set up a ProgressDialog to display while the user is waiting for that to complete.
The problem is that the ProgressDialog doesn't display at all. If I remove the call to dismiss() then it displays after the work is done and, obviously, just sits there...

Any ideas on what I'm missing? I've seen a few similar threads on this using AsyncTask, but I wanted to use good old fashioned Threads directly and the solutions suggested don't apply.
seems like lately my texts aren't retrieved immediately...ill get about 2-3 in a row from the same person and they claim they were several minutes apart...
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have the htc magic and its been acting up as of late. It's been running super slow, taking over a minute or more to load the home screen after running apps at times. My most recent, and worst problem, is every time I get a text message and go to turn of the display, it won't light up but instead shows the android loading screen (the one when you turn the phone one.) Sometimes ill already have it on and when I click the text box in the messaging app to reply, it does the same thing. Any suggestions on how to fix this? If not, I'm going to look into getting a new one or just switching to a phone with less hassle.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have noticed that once I have sent a text I am not getting any tone to let me know that the text has been delivered which is rather annoying as I have to keep on long pressing the text I have sent to "view report". I am getting the Notification tone Hours later after the text has got to the person I sent it to. On all my other phones (I am on 3 Mobile) the tone is straight away once the text gets to the other person.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI maybe 1 day to late to let everyone in on this, completely forgot about this issue.OK, I've been seeing a lot of the same post with slide to unlock problems, or more the entire thing is missing problem. I saw the same issues back when the leaks were being applied. People whom had disabled the lock, updated the leak, didn't have the lock anymore nor did they have the option to add it back if they wanted to. I was (and still am) in the same boat, but the opposite. I had the lock active before the leak and after the update I still had it, the new one, but theres no option to turn it off. Now I have seen a couple threads where Moto has been contacted after a failed attemp with Verizon and they said that yes, an option should be in the settings like the original 2.1 - but its not.I should have remembered this, and at least posted a thread stating - "If you want your screen to lock, have it active before you update, if not, do the oposite" I've only seen one instance that someone had theirs disabled and it was active after the OTA, but again, they can't remove it.
If anyone else has noticed this ( I do understand that a lot of people just go day2day using their lock without thinking twice and never look to disable it ) please post below the results before and after the OTA, also include if you were leaked, reverted, OTA - or rooted. Maybe different variables produce different results.
Hope this helps some with their lock, and maybe if I'm correct some will catch it before they OTA their X.
With 2.2 facebook events now appear in my calendar.However the start and end time is one hour too late. Other calendar items have the correct time.Clock is on Automatic. Date/time set correctly. Time zone is GMT-07:00 (Pacific and DST, so that is right.)[Menu | Settings | Date & time].If I use the FB App 1.3.2 it shows the event time correctly.Could someone else let me know if your FB events appear in the calendar with either the correct or incorrect time?It'd be helpful if you could confirm your TZ, the TZ chosen by the phone and the event time via the FB app.

Normally it works fine, and my ram are under half when it happens so it is not ram. Also everything else works even tho the touch buttons don't.
While developing for Android, I am unable to open more than one main.xml file in an Eclipse editor at a time.Each time I open one, it simply replaces the editor (tab) of the first main.xml with the new one, instead of opening a new tab - even if the contents of the existing tab were unsaved.Even stranger, I can open multiple main.xml files from different projects with no problems.This only happens when they're within the same project.

Is it possible to build a GridView object in XML with 3 columns and 4 rows of Image buttons? It doesn't seem to have similar containment relationship like LinearLayout or RelativeLayout viewgroups.
I want to do this entirely in an xml layout file. When I put ImageButton xml tags inside a GridView xml body, The layout panel in eclipse is throwing an exception: UnsupportedOperationException:addView(View, LayoutParams) is not supported in AdapterView.

I am using eclipse 3.5 with the ADT plugin.when I view layout xml files, i get two tabs in the view the source code view and a graphical view.the graphical view almost never works for any of my layouts.it usually shows "NullPointerException: null" at the top and nothing else. when it does work, it often does not match what i get in the simulator or device.it seems like this thing simply is not ready for prime time; although the idea is very cool.has anyone else had much success with it?

Can you please explain what are the difference between these directories?
I've successfully created a countdown kitchen timer activity, however my goal is to have an activity that has 3 timers on it that all work independently. I created a separate layout just for the timer itself and moved the timer code into a class and I've used layoutinflater to create the views and then added them into the linear layout for the activity. I get the layouts fine, however there's no functionality. There doesn't seem to be anything that ties the class code to the activity. How should I approach this? Can anyone point me to some working example code?

[___Button1____] [___Button2___] [___Button3___] [___Button4___]
When someone clicks on Button2, I want the toolbar to change to:
[___Button1____] [___________Button2___________] [___Button3___]
The toolbar should transition from the first state to the second state through a smooth animation. I would like to use a scale animation on Button2, and while that is happening, Button3 and Button 4 should move to the right (while the animation is going on). At the end of the animation (or maybe during), I will fade Button4 out.
Question: How do I achieve an animation of the layout of the toolbar such that only one component (i.e. Button2) is being scaled while the others are not being scaled - the layout is simply updated during the animation of Button2.
I looked at LayoutAnimationController, but it does not appear to allow me to either:
1. specify different animations for the different components, OR
2. indicate that only animate one component and don't animate the others.
I can't scale the entire toolbar because that distorts Button1/3/4 which I don't want.
