Android :: Set Focus On A View When A Layout Is Created And Displayed?
Jan 27, 2010
Currently, I have a layout which contains a Button, a TextView and an EditText. When the layout is displayed, the focus will be automatically put on the EditText, which will trigger the keyboard to show up on Android phone. It is not what I want. Is there any way that I can set the focus on TextView or on nothing when a layout is displayed?

I want to create a grid of images with text right below the images.
I created in a xml file a image_text item which basically is a linearlayout with and imageview and a textview right below.
I created a tablelayout and I want to add my custom image_text.xml to the table row. But I dont know how to reference my xml file inside. If I use the include statament, how do I pass the image id and text to my item_text.xml? code...

I have the following situation. Attached is a snippet of code that appears in the OnCreate of my Activity.
CODE:..........
The issue is that my layout never gets displayed until the OnCreate method has compoleted. Since my 3 functions takes about 10 secs to complete, I have a blank screen being displayed for 10 secs. This layout has a progress bar which meant to show the progress thru each function.

I have a simple problem which makes me feel like a stupid. I really need help on this.
I have a SurfaceView which I created with Java code not XML. I created a MediaPlayer which shows its content on that SurfaceView.
When I use, setContentView(mPreview); // where mPreview is a SurfaceView
The video is played on the screen.
I need to add two buttons on the screen. So I tried something like this:
code:.........
This did not change anything. Still the video is displayed on full screen and no buttons appear. I am a java programmer both SE and ME. Things are done in this way on Java.
Does Android have a different approach?

I am trying to display a bunch of image icons in a grid view, with some basic inductive text on the top. This layout is inside a tab pane. For some reason my application just Fore closes without any stack trace when I do this. Here is my lay out file and the corresponding code that uses it in a tab.
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>

I am trying to laod the listview dynamically. There are three textviews inside a listview. The text to be set in the textview is fetched from the server. All this is working fine. I am able to fetch the text and am able to display it inside the listview.
The only problem is the position of the textview. The xml layout file is as under:
CODE:.............
If I look at this xml layout in the eclipse layout tab then it is displayed properly. Problem occurs only when the text is fetched dynamically.

I was wondering if its possible to block the onclick events on a layout and all the children inside the layout.
for example, I have a LinearLayout and inside that I have buttons and an editText. At a certain point I don't want the user to click on the buttons or edit the text. Is there a way to block that? Do I have to do it for each view? or I can do it for a Layout? What is the best way to do this?

Is it possible to build a GridView object in XML with 3 columns and 4 rows of Image buttons? It doesn't seem to have similar containment relationship like LinearLayout or RelativeLayout viewgroups.
I want to do this entirely in an xml layout file. When I put ImageButton xml tags inside a GridView xml body, The layout panel in eclipse is throwing an exception: UnsupportedOperationException:addView(View, LayoutParams) is not supported in AdapterView.

i have tried almost everything i can think of to center a programitacally created table in a pragmatically created layout. I've tried all the usual layout params center setting but still nothing: Score List is a set of pairs of scores (Name, Score). I'm just looping through and adding them to cells in a table and its always aligned left when i run it.
ArrayList<Score> scoreList = new ArrayList<Score>();

I am using:
Android 4.0.3
OpenCV 2.4.2
Samsung Galaxy S2
The face-detection example (from the opencv 2.4.2) is working perfectly. But now, I would like to create a custom layout and actually work with just the data extracted from face detection and build a game on it. Not necessarily having the FdView surface taking the entire screen.
I have done these modifications below, but just a black screen is displayed. Nothing appears on the screen.
Changed the BaseLoaderCallback in FdActivity.java
Code:
//EXPERIMENT
setContentView(R.layout.fd);
FdView surface = (FdView) (findViewById(R.id.FdView));[code]....

As known, when using the setContentView() method, a view can be displayed on screen.
My question is whether there is a way to receive an event when the view is actually displayed on screen (since it takes some time for the view actually being displayed after the setContentView() method has been called).

I want to build my own custom view which should look like the Crysis-GUI.At first I designed a XML-based Layout and made it visible via the setContentView(int resid)-Method. Worked pretty well.But now I wan't to go a step further and draw in my Layout. So I created a new Class, let it extend View and overrode the onDraw()-Method. So far so good.But how can I still use my XML-Layout? I can't do setContentView anymore, so how could the same effect be achieved?

So my layout looks basically like this:
<ScrollView>
<RelativeLayout>
<BunchOfViews/>
<ImageView android:layout_alignParentBottom="true"/>
</RelativeLayout>
</ScrollView>
I have the ScrollView so all of the layout always is visible no matter the height of the screen. The problem is that on a very high screen, I still want my imageview to be at the bottom. However, a child of a ScrollView dont seem to have a defined bottom. The View is placed at the top of the layout. How can I solve this problem in a neat way?

I have an XML layout with some custom tabs, a heading, and a ProgressBar(main.xml). I wish to add another XML layout(home.xml) to the main.xml layout, as i wish to keep main.xml re-usable for other activity's layouts and simply add things to it as necessary.The problem: after inflating R.layout.home into rootLayout, it seems as though the ProgressBar contained in rootLayout is hidden underneath the content of home.xml.Is there a way to tell certain views(via XML) to float above other views when the layout is constructed in this way?if not, am i forced to use methods such as progressBar.bringToFront() to raise targeted views to the top?what alternatives do i have in z-ordering views when some layouts are constructed using inflation?

I am trying to apply an animation to a view in my Android app after my activity is created. To do this, I need to determine the current size of the view, and then set up an animation to scale from the current size to the new size. This part must be done at runtime, since the view scales to different sizes depending on input from the user. My layout is defined in XML. This seems like an easy task, and there are lots of SO questions regarding this though none which solved my problem, obviously. So perhaps I am missing something obvious. I get a handle to my view by: ImageView myView = (ImageView)getWindow().findViewById(R.id.MyViewID);
This works fine, but when calling getWidth(), getHeight(), getMeasuredWidth(), getLayoutParams().width, etc., they all return 0. I have also tried manually calling measure() on the view followed by a call to getMeasuredWidth(), but that has no effect. I have tried calling these methods and inspecting the object in the debugger in my activity's onCreate() and in onPostCreate(). How can I figure out the exact dimensions of this view at runtime?

I've tried to add a TextView before a ListView in a LinearLayout. The result is that the ListView wont show at all. The same thing happens if I put the TextView after the ListView, but then I will only see the ListView. Is there a way to get a text view above the ListView without to much of a hassle?

I want to get the current focus view in my Service to check the view is a EditText and append some texts in it (for all EditTexts, not only in my application).
I found some methods to do this, like Activity.getCurrentFocus() and Windows.getCurrentFocus(). But these methods are used in a Activity.
How can I use these methods in a Service? Or is there another way to do?
