Sep 1, 2010I have the htc magic and its been acting up as of late. It's been running super slow, taking over a minute or more to load the home screen after running apps at times. My most recent, and worst problem, is every time I get a text message and go to turn of the display, it won't light up but instead shows the android loading screen (the one when you turn the phone one.) Sometimes ill already have it on and when I click the text box in the messaging app to reply, it does the same thing. Any suggestions on how to fix this? If not, I'm going to look into getting a new one or just switching to a phone with less hassle.

Jun 6, 2009I am writing a Security-oriented application for Android that is supposed to detect abuse of SMS sending.
In my work I encountered the problem of not being able to detect outgoing SMSs sent not through the use of conventional applications, i.e. merely by using SMS Manager's sendTextSMS method.
The conventional SMS applications add the contents of the sent SMS to the SMS Provider after they send it but I can assume that malicious applications will not do that... and neither will they provide the pending intents to the sendTextSMS method to be broadcast upon sending/ delivery.
My question is, is there any way I can detect the sending of the SMS without relying on the SMS provider?
Android :: IM - Always Starts - Funny SMSs
Oct 29, 2009IM is automatically loaded when I start my phone. I don't use it, but don't see a way to uninstall or shut that off.
Also, I occssionally get these odd sms messages. I looked one up on the web and it said it had to do with IM. How can I stop all this IM stuff?
HTC Desire :: Notifications When Receiving SMSs
Nov 4, 2010I've recently installed Handcent SMS on my Desire and now find I get two notifications when SMSs arrived. The first from the phone's standard message app and another from Handcent. Does anyone know how to turn off the notification for the phone's app?

May 19, 2010I'm having an issue with my HTC Desire on O2 UK, and receiving texts. I found that they weren't coming through, and then suddenly popping through in batches. I thought it was perhaps because I'd been using a task killer on the app, but I've now stopped doing this, and still have the same problem.
I did realise though, that this tends to happen in the morning, and with texts from the night before (say from 10pm and later). Two times this week, texts sent about midnight have popped up at 9am (just after I exit the tube). Is there some setting I've got enabled that stops them coming through at night? Or is this just coincidence?
Android :: Layout Being Displayed Too Late?

The issue is that my layout never gets displayed until the OnCreate method has compoleted. Since my 3 functions takes about 10 secs to complete, I have a blank screen being displayed for 10 secs. This layout has a progress bar which meant to show the progress thru each function.

Android :: ProgressDialog Doesn't Show Up Until It's Too Late
Aug 13, 2010I'm writing an Activity which fetches some XML from the web via HTTP and then parses it into a DOM. It then pulls some required data from the DOM.
As you can imagine, this takes a few moments, so I put that code into it's own thread and then tried to set up a ProgressDialog to display while the user is waiting for that to complete.
The problem is that the ProgressDialog doesn't display at all. If I remove the call to dismiss() then it displays after the work is done and, obviously, just sits there...

The constructor of the FighterVersesDownloader is where all the work in terms of HTTP and DOM is done.
Any ideas on what I'm missing? I've seen a few similar threads on this using AsyncTask, but I wanted to use good old fashioned Threads directly and the solutions suggested don't apply.

Nov 25, 2009I have noticed that once I have sent a text I am not getting any tone to let me know that the text has been delivered which is rather annoying as I have to keep on long pressing the text I have sent to "view report". I am getting the Notification tone Hours later after the text has got to the person I sent it to. On all my other phones (I am on 3 Mobile) the tone is straight away once the text gets to the other person.

Sep 22, 2010I maybe 1 day to late to let everyone in on this, completely forgot about this issue.OK, I've been seeing a lot of the same post with slide to unlock problems, or more the entire thing is missing problem. I saw the same issues back when the leaks were being applied. People whom had disabled the lock, updated the leak, didn't have the lock anymore nor did they have the option to add it back if they wanted to. I was (and still am) in the same boat, but the opposite. I had the lock active before the leak and after the update I still had it, the new one, but theres no option to turn it off. Now I have seen a couple threads where Moto has been contacted after a failed attemp with Verizon and they said that yes, an option should be in the settings like the original 2.1 - but its not.I should have remembered this, and at least posted a thread stating - "If you want your screen to lock, have it active before you update, if not, do the oposite" I've only seen one instance that someone had theirs disabled and it was active after the OTA, but again, they can't remove it.
If anyone else has noticed this ( I do understand that a lot of people just go day2day using their lock without thinking twice and never look to disable it ) please post below the results before and after the OTA, also include if you were leaked, reverted, OTA - or rooted. Maybe different variables produce different results.
Hope this helps some with their lock, and maybe if I'm correct some will catch it before they OTA their X.
HTC Incredible :: Facebook Events An Hour Late In Calendarc
Sep 9, 2010With 2.2 facebook events now appear in my calendar.However the start and end time is one hour too late. Other calendar items have the correct time.Clock is on Automatic. Date/time set correctly. Time zone is GMT-07:00 (Pacific and DST, so that is right.)[Menu | Settings | Date & time].If I use the FB App 1.3.2 it shows the event time correctly.Could someone else let me know if your FB events appear in the calendar with either the correct or incorrect time?It'd be helpful if you could confirm your TZ, the TZ chosen by the phone and the event time via the FB app.

Normally it works fine, and my ram are under half when it happens so it is not ram. Also everything else works even tho the touch buttons don't.
Android :: Handcent Links Service SMSs To Facebook Contact
Jul 1, 2010I use Handcent SMS on my HTC Hero. I have also recently updated to Android 2.1. Recently I have received a couple of service SMS messages from different companies (bank mini-statements, adverts, etc.) which in itself is okay, but Handcent has been linking them to one of my Facebook contacts!
It only happens when I get a SMS from a non-regular phone number or a short number. Its always the same Facebook contact, but I don't have this person as a regular contact in my phone or Google contacts and their phone number is not on their FB profile!
I checked the stock messaging app to make sure it wasn't anything else and that was fine, so it's definitely a Handcent thing.

Been a happy user for many years, but Nokia simply seems to be heading for a fall in all respects.This silly Ovi thing which will never take off, and the rapid decline of the quality and innovation of their handsets is the final nail in the coffin for me.However, I can't see any Android handsets that do it for me.While I think the operating system is miles better, there seems to be a massive drawback for Android phones - the imaging.There's not a single one with a decent camera - the hero and galaxy both have 5mp, but the images taken by them are nothing in comparison with all the Nokia generic 5mp CZ ones.So is there anything coming up that I would like? I noticed the Samsung behold 2, but that seems to be US only.Not to mention it might not be an better than the galaxy camera.I really don't want to go back to Nokia, but since I use my phone as my main camera, it has to be reasonably good. I know about the upcoming SE beast, but that's got a 4" screen, and I sold the i8910 because it was simply too big to comfortably operate.So.is there anything that could interest me? All I can see is the behold 2, and like I said,that seems to be US only (I'm UK).

Jun 9, 2010I am having a very frustrating problem with my new EVO. Playing music through headphones plugged into the 3.5mm jack is very inconsistent to say the least. When I first got the phone I could not hear music through the headphones (using the htc music app) at all. I could hear ringers, notifications, etc. just not music. I updated the software and it worked, though now I think it had nothing to with that, it was more restarting the phone.
Earlier today I plugged in the headphones and the music came through fine. The song I was listening to stopped, I went to select another song, and the music stopped working through the headphones after having worked just a second before. Again, I could hear every other sound but not the music. I turned the phone off and on again and it worked fine again. Hours later, I plug my headphones back in, and nothing. As a background, it's not he the headphones I've tried several. I can hear everything else, notifications, ringers, etc., not music. The headphones icon is present at the top.
I actually cant hear anything besides notifications through the headphones when this problem occurs including Youtube, FM Radio, Pandora, etc. Although I have manged to somehow get music to play through both the speaker and the headphones by fiddling with the headphones/speaker option in the FM Tuner. Remember when I said I could hear the ringer, notifications, etc. well, those are actually coming through both the external headset speaker and the headphones. I'm not sure if that is normal behavior but, it is strange. Either way, I can't hear music, youtube, etc. through the headphones.

Android :: App Working But GoogleMap Not Coming
Sep 22, 2010I have a very simple app showing current Position using GPS-Provider in emulator. (Location is being picked up from emulator Control). If I send any updated location, the new location also getting picked (showing toast) and able to animate to new point. I'm working behind a firewall (proxy enabled). - App is showing the MapView but background is Grey with line-Grids (not real google maps visible) - Proxy is working fine. What can be the reason for actual maps not getting visible? Do we need to get access 'enabled' for any kind of URL (which might getting blocked by firewall)?

Aug 24, 2010It just stopped coming to mail account on EVO. All other accounts work fine including another yahoo acount. I deleted it and then put it back on the phone and I have the old emails but no new ones will transmit. Any solutions? thoughts? I am using mail droid to get mail from this account now but I want to use the main email function for this phone!

Jul 1, 2010I had an HTC Desire (actually I had 4) before I got a refund due to a whole host of technical problems. Given that the problems I encountered don't seem to be widespread (mostly concerning the vibrate mechanism failing), I am thinking I may have just got caught up in a bad batch and am considering trying again.I tried other phones but nothing really compares to the Desire at the moment. The iPhone 4 looks nicer, but the OS bores me to death and it seems there are far more technical problems with the iPhone than the Desire at the moment.I have looked around for other upcoming phones and, aside from the Evo 4g which is not in the UK, I can see no other alternatives to the desire. Am I missing any other options?I don't consider the Galaxy S an alternative as it looks and feels like a cheap plastic toy.

May 13, 2010I was testing my phone and found that if i JUST set it to sleep it will notify me of new emails. But i waited until it was asleep for over 25 min and i sent 2 emails from 2 different email accounts and neither one showed up on my phone until i unlocked it and hit airplane mode and then unchecked airplane mode. i have the mobile data set to always on. I do have only 1 bar at -99 signal strength. but if i turn on and off airplane mode the emails come right in after a prolonged sleep.
