Android :: Is There A View For A Button Bar?
Jan 1, 2010
I am looking for a view or some sort of information regarding the bottom bar in default applications of Android such as Email, or Unlock pattern as shown in the picture below. I have not been able find anything about this on Androids site nor from Google searches. Image: http://img11.imageshack.us/i/viewdn.jpg/

I am creating a android app using LunarLander as a example.Now I need to create a few buttons which are drawn over the view.I do not want them as a seperate layout above or below the view but in the custom view.Is this possible or am I going to have to programmatically show the button images then detect the touch. The buttons I create using new never show on the app. I assume this is because I have overwritten the onDraw and the buttons are never drawn even though I call.

I want a fix "Cancel" Button at the bottom of the ListView. I want my list View to be scrollable and fix Button at Bottom.
I had added the Button at the bottom of the list with addFooterView (button); but if list is longer than the screen, then we have to scroll down to get the button and if list is very short then Button will be at the middle of the screen just bellow the listview :(
I got Ramain Guy's suggestion of setting height = "0dip" and weight = "1" but by doing this nothing is appearing on the screen (blank view)
Note: my ListView is one tab of the TabHost.

Let's say for instance a button is needed with a picture and a text. It would seem natural to create an xml view and then inflate it into the Button. Is this possible?
At the moment I don't need the button to look clickable or change it's color at click, but it could also be interesting to consider how this will be affected by making the inflate.
Btw, I found this one tutorial describing a solution to the same problem, but they were writing a class extending View to obtain the goal. That seems a bit overklill to me. http://kahdev.wordpress.com/2008/09/13/making-a-custom-android-button-using-a-custom-view/

I'm trying to create a button in a custom view that I've created. I'm looping through an XML document and drawing certain things. I want to be able to also create buttons to go in certain locations depending on the xml data. I'd like to do it in the view because I want to be able to call invalidate() on my view to redraw things and replace the buttons when new xml data is available.
The problem is that I put my code in the view class, the activity crashes because the button is "null".
Here is a subset of my code:
CODE:............
I know this code works for creating buttons because I can put it in my activity class and it works just fine. Any suggestions? I thought about relocating the button in the activity, but I can't figure out how to do this when new data is available.

I have a button defined in my XML file. The button works exactly like you would expect...that is until I add the line at the bottom (android:background="drawable/leftarrow1"). Then the button is no longer click able in the activity, but the new background shows up like I want. What gives?
<Button
android:id="@+id/switch_left"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_alignParentLeft="true"
android:layout_center Vertical="true"
android:background="@drawable/leftarrow1" />

Suggestion for the Marketplace: Change the "View more applications" button to be called "More by developer".
Note: It is under the "About the developer" title, however, I doubt many people take notice of the title.
Please leave a comment or suggestion if you agree / disagree.

I am trying to port an existing iPhone application to android. I wish to have a button scroll into view at the bottom of a GridView to enable the user to load more data from the server. Presently, my solution simply fixes a button at the bottom of the screen instead of having it scroll into view.
Here is my layout code:
<LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android
android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent" android:orientation="vertical" >
<GridView xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:id="@+id/grid"
android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:columnWidth="70dp" android:numColumns="auto_fit" android:verticalSpacing="0dp" android:horizontalSpacing="0dp" android:stretchMode="columnWidth" android:gravity="center" android:background="#000000" />
<Button android:id="@+id/load_more" android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:text="Load More" /> </LinearLayout>
Fixing the button at the bottom of the screen won't work because I plan on placing an ad at the bottom. Can anyone either explain conceptually how to get a load more button to scroll into view, or point me to some sample code, OR tell me why this is not idiomatic to Android and what other UI convention it uses to load more data in a GridView?

I' have a view that contains several textViews an ImageView and a Button . Because on small screen devices (or in landscape mode on big ones ) not all are visible I use a Scroll as the parent of the whole hierarchy to allow the user to view all the information. The things are suck that the button must be at the buttom of the view . However on big screen device , where it remains enough space at the buttom , the button is put immediatelly below the last textview,and seems to occupy all the remaining space (resulting in an unnactractive view) . Trying to use android:allignParentButtom ="true" not only that it has no effect but it puts the button at top of the screen . Has anyone any ideea how could I accomplish what I described ?
Here's the xml

I have a TabActivity with several tabs. Each tab corresponds to a specific view, and those views may further switch to other views. For example, one of my tabs displays RSS feed list, after user clicks one of the RSS feed, it will switch to a view displaying a list of articles, and after user clicks one of the titles, a full article view will be displayed.I'm going to add support for "back" button in my application. For instance, in a full article view, after user presses the "back" button, it should switch back to the article list view. And if user presses it the "back" button again, my application should switch back to the feed list view.My idea is to maintain a Stack<View> during navigation, and every time user presses the "back" button, the program will pop a View out of the stack, and set it as the current view. But I would like to know how to set current view in TabHost.

I'm trying to show a ScrollView with a button anchored to bottom of screen. This is coded programmatically (without using XML layout for now). The trouble is when the ScrollView has many items (requiring scrolling), it prevents the button at the bottom from showing. The bottom button is sort of pushed off the screen. Look at the code below. I have a TODO which mentions a workaround to specify the exact pixel height of the ScrollView, but this is not a good solution. If you change the for loop to add only 2 buttons, then the bottom button will show. So how do I make the ScrollView show a scrolling list, with the bottom button in view, and without specifying an exact size of the ScrollView? I've seen some discussions here:
http://groups.google.com/group/android-developers/browse_thread/threa http: //groups. google.com /group/ android-developers/browse_thread/threa But I don't know how to apply these to my situation.package com.test.ScrollViewTest; import android.app.Activity; import android.os.Bundle; import android. view. Gravity ; import android.view. ViewGroup. MarginLayoutParams; import android.widget.Button; import android. widget.ImageView; import android .widget.LinearLayout; import android.widget.RelativeLayout; import android.widget.ScrollView; import android.widget.TextView; public class MyScrollViewTest extends Activity @Override public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) super. onCreate (savedInstanceState); LinearLayout ll = new LinearLayout(this); // the main layout of the screen ll.setOrientation (LinearLayout.VERTICAL); TextView tv1 = new TextView(this); tv1.setText("First line of text"); TextView tv2 = new TextView(this); tv2.setText("Second line of text"); ll.addView(tv1); ll.addView(tv2); ScrollView sv = new ScrollView(this);// You can only add one child (usually a layout) to a scrollview, // otherwise you get exception: "ScrollView can host only one direct child" LinearLayout ll2 = new LinearLayout(this); ll2.setOrientation(LinearLayout.VERTICAL); * TODO: PROBLEM HERE: You cannot use WRAP_CONTENT for height, because * the layout below the scrollView will not show (it's sort of pushed * off the screen - even if a margin is specified). * An alternate value of 300 works OK (remove the bottom margin too).* But this is only suitable for screen size 320x480 in portrait mode.LinearLayout.LayoutParams params Linear = new LinearLayout.LayoutParams( LinearLayout. Layout Params.FILL_PARENT, Linear Layout.LayoutParams.WRAP_CONTENT /*300*/); Add 50 pixel margin to bottom of scrollview (this margin doesn't scroll) paramsLinear.bottomMargin = 50;sv.addView(ll2); // Add some stuff to scrollView to test its depth // (it should leave a margin at bottom of screen) for (int i = 1; i < 10; i++) { TextView textView = new TextView(this) ;textView.setText ("Text View " + i); linearLayout.LayoutParams p = new LinearLayout .LayoutParams (Linear Layout.LayoutParams.FILL_PARENT, LinearLayout.LayoutParams.WRAP_CONTENT);
ll2.addView (textView, p); button buttonView = new Button(this); buttonView. setText ("Button " + i);ll2.addView(buttonView, p); ll.addView(sv, paramsLinear); RelativeLayout rl = new RelativeLayout(this); RelativeLayout.LayoutParams paramsRelative = new lative Layout. LayoutParams( RelativeLayout.LayoutParams.FILL_PARENT, RelativeLayout .Layout Params .WRAP_CONTENT); // Make the button anchored to the bottom of the screen.// But this doesn't work when the ScrollView has a scrolling list of items. Why? params Relative .addRule(RelativeLayout.ALIGN_PARENT_BOTTOM); rl.setLayout Params (params Relative) ;

My activity has a set of buttons on the left half of the screen and a ListView on the right.Initially the focus is on the first button. When I browse the buttons by pressing DOWN arrow key and then press the RIGHT arrow key, the focus does not go to the topmost list item. Instead, the list item correspondingly on the right gets focused.Is there a way that when I press the RIGHT arrow key, the focus goes to the topmost item on the Listview?

I'm starting with Scala + Android (and using the sbt android plugin). I'm trying to wire a button action to a button without the activity implementing View.OnClickListener.
The button click fails at runtime because the method cannot be found. The document I'm working through says that I need only declare a public void method taking a View on the action, and use that method name in the layout.
What have I done wrong? MainActivity.scala package net.badgerhunt.hwa
import android.app.Activity
import android.os.Bundle
import android.widget.Button
import android.view.View
import java.util.Date. Code...
