Android : Wire A Button Action Without Activity Implementing View.OnClickListener

May 11, 2010

I'm starting with Scala + Android (and using the sbt android plugin). I'm trying to wire a button action to a button without the activity implementing View.OnClickListener.

The button click fails at runtime because the method cannot be found. The document I'm working through says that I need only declare a public void method taking a View on the action, and use that method name in the layout.

What have I done wrong? MainActivity.scala package net.badgerhunt.hwa

import android.app.Activity
import android.os.Bundle
import android.widget.Button
import android.view.View
import java.util.Date. Code...

Android :: Implementing An OnClickListener?

Nov 9, 2010

I am trying to do something similar to that of the android lock screen pattern. I have a class that extends a view that I create multiple instances of. These appear on the screen all at once.

I need to be able to click on them individually and have each one turn green individually, however only one on touch listener is listening at once and it belongs to the last dot which appeared, so if I click anywhere on the screen the last appeared dot turns green no matter where I click.

Here is the code for my dot class:

CODE:......

In the code I called newdotdraw multiple times.

Android :: Error On Implementing OnClickListener ?

I am writing an application which one of the activity has a button and use this button to switch to another activity when clicking that.

The main activity implements the onCreate and OnClickListener as follows:

When I try to run this program on my emulator, after hitting the button, the program stopped unexpectedly. I follow the instructions of implementing OnClickListener firmly so I don't know what's the problem in my implementation.

Android :: Implementing Action Bar

I am working on creating an Action Bar like the one from the new Android UI Patterns and I am running into a bit of trouble. I have a ViewSwitcher with two layouts in it. When the user taps the search button I animate between the two layouts. The problem is that the layouts are different sizes and I can't figure out how to make them take up the same amount of space. Here's what I mean. p.s. forgive the bad art, they are just place holders ;)

Android : Close Current Activity When An Action Happens In Custom View

Oct 13, 2010

I have a toolbar view set for most of my activities.

The toolbar has several buttons which all trigger certain intents. Now, the problem is: how can I close current activity before starting another one ?

Problem 1) Activity cones For instance one of the buttons ('A') starts activity A. Activity A also has toolbar. If you press on the 'A' button, a new A activity will be started. I suppose I can look at Activity.getInstanceCount(), right ?

Problem 2) Unnecessary activities The activity X is not needed any more if the opts for A. I just want A then. How can I remove X from toolbar which only has access to context ?

I, of course could find toolbar view inside activity X and override the onClicks, but in general this would mean doing so for all my activities !? Am I on the right track ?

Android :: ListView - Use The Activity OnClickListener From A Custom Adapter?

Nov 1, 2010

I have a listView using a custom adapter. Each row contains a button and some other Views. I want to be able to click either on the button, or on the row itself (to edit the item of the list that is clicked).

Setting an onItemClickListener in the activity won't work because of this problem

I think I have to set an onClickListener in the getView() method of my adapter for it to work properly.
I would like to use my activity's onClickListener, in order to use a startActivityForResult() when the row is clicked, in order to have something returned to my activity when the item edition activity is over.
How can I do that?

Android :: View Image In Action View Intent?

Nov 16, 2009

I'd like to show a png or jpg I downloaded from the next in an image viewer intent, but can't get it to work.

Bitmap bmp = getImageBitmap(jpg);
String path = getFilesDir().getAbsolutePath() + "/test.png";
File file = new File(path);
FileOutputStream fos = new FileOutputStream(file);
bmp.compress( CompressFormat.PNG, 100, fos );
fos.close();
Intent intent = new Intent();
intent.setAction(android.content.Intent.ACTION_VIEW);
intent.setDataAndType(Uri.fromFile(new File(path)), "image/png");
startActivity(intent);

I know the bitmap is downloaded ok (use the same routine for supplying it my ImageView instances elsewhere in my app) - I think it wrote to file ok, I can see it on disk and the file size is correct. The intent is launched but an exception is thrown: then the new activity just sits there, blank. How does this work?

Android : User Action Emulate Hardware 'Back' Button?

Sep 6, 2010

I looked around and although there are many related questions I didn't see one that answers my exact question:

I would like to create an app that runs in the background that provides the exact same functionality as the hard coded 'Back' button in all cases.

The reason? I (for example) have a Droid X, and it is BIG. it makes it extremely hard to use one-handed and having a swipe gesture function as a back button (like in Palm Pre for example) would greatly increase the ease of use.

as far as I'm concerned the app could just be one simple class that contains:
1) a listener for the 'back' swipe
2) a call to the physical hard button itself

Is this possible? are there built in APIs for the hard coded buttons that would allow me to call them without actually pressing them?

Again - I'm not interested in overriding the button, I'm interested in making a software call to it - or failing that, in emulating it's behavior in any and all states and other apps!

Please forgive the naivete of this post. I am a very novice programmer and really I just want to know whether this is possible before I start to devote myself to trying to build it.

Change Action Of Delete Button

Nov 22, 2012

This is a question about the new Swype beta. Everything about the newest versions of Swype Beta are amazing. Being able to change themes, and some function changes, etc... EXCEPT for the back/delete button action. This is the only thing that sucks. Where as you used to be able to HOLD the delete button and delete whole words, you can only delete one letter at a time unless you highlight the word using the swype key which can become aggravating.

My question. How hard would it be to go in and change the action of the delete button? Would it be a simple smali edit or even a simple xml edit.

Android :: How To Control Activity Flow - Back Button Versus Home Button

Sep 2, 2010

I have 3 activities in my app: Activity1 -> Activity2 -> Activity3. Inside Activity3, if the user presses Back, I would like to return to Activity2. In Activity3's onPause event, I added a finish() statement. That's probably not even necessary, but I wanted to make sure this Activity gets cleaned up. This works fine.
However, while in Activity3, if the user presses Home or starts a new app (through notification bar or some other means), I want both Activity3 and Activity2 to finish. If the user returns to this app, he should resume with Activity1.

I have figured out how to do one or the other, but I can't figure out how to handle both cases, if it's even possible. Can I trap the "Back" button in Activity3 and send a message back to Activity2 telling it not to finish()? It seems like the Activities follow the same lifecycle flow (Pause, Stop) regardless of what you do to send them to the background. Just to answer the question of why I want this behavior, imagine that Activity1 is a login screen, Activity2 is a selection screen, and Activity3 is a content screen. If I press Back from the content page, I want to be able to make a new selection. If I exit via any other means (Home, notification bar), I want the user to be "logged out".

Motorola Droid :: Phone Refuses To Save Home Button Default Action

Mar 15, 2010

Apparently rooting and using custom ROMs hasn't solved this issue. Before I rooted my phone I was having the issue that, despite checking the "Use by default for this action" box, my phone just plain refused to save what homescreen app to go to when I tap the "Home" button.I've tried clearing the cache. I've done factory resets and data wipes (although I did restore "all apps with data" with Titanium Backup). I've tried using the Home Switcher app. Nothing works.Right now my phone is running the current version of BB, ChevyNo1's 1.0Ghz 5 slot update.zip for OC, and am using AdamZ's Smoked glass theme. I want to use the "HelixLauncher" app as my default homescreen, but it's rather obnoxious having to constantly select it when I hit the home button (it'll save my default action for a few clicks, and then I'll have to set it again).

Android :: Supplying Action / Data Where Filter Had Only Action

Oct 31, 2010

I thought that Action was preeminent during intent resolution and if the intent had the same action as the intent filter, it would be considered a match regardless of data, if the filter did not specify anything. So I was very surprised to find that supplying action+data where filter had only action, causes it to fail. In the code below, if you comment out line 47 so that data is *not* sent, only then it resolves correctly. To get it to work with the data (an id that is simply a String), what mime type should I specify in the intent filter?

Android :: Can Update A List View In One Activity While Im In Another Activity

Oct 4, 2010

I currently have a tab layout with 2 tabs, one tab with a list view and one with the option make strings so I can add them in the list view. Both tabs have their own activity because this made the code much more structured, and I dont have to repeat my self later.

Lets say im in the tab that offer me to create an string, and i press the update list button, how do I update the list view without startActivity()? If i use startActivity(), it starts List.java, and instead of displaying the list in the list view tab, it takes full screen, which defies the purpose of the tab view. In other words, the startActivity() steals the focus from the tab view of the list, and sends it fulscreen.

I want to update the activity in my list view tab, without starting a new activity that goes to fullscreen, and doesnt update the one in the tab.
