Android :: Taking A Picture Intent
Apr 5, 2009I have an Activity for my application to take pictures and store them with a content provider. The problem is that obviously I would like the picture to auto rotate depending if I have my phone in landscape or not and I would like to use the autofocus feature. So I'm wondering if I could just call a Camera app intent and get the URI of the picture taken. is that possible? I remind reading that it will only give me a small size picture.

Feb 17, 2010When I take a picture with Androids camera app, it detects the phone's orientation and saves the pic accordingly. So if i take a picture of a building, the roof will be on the topside, whether I hold the phone in landscape position or portrait.
However, when i use
Intent imageCaptureIntent = new Intent(MediaStore.ACTION_IMAGE_CAPTURE);
to get a picture, the camera app doesn't react to orientation. If i hold the phone vertically (portrait), the resulting pic will be rotated, with said building's roof to the left of the screen.
How can I set the intent so that the camera will take orientation into account? Or can I deduce in some way in what orientation the pic was taken and rotate it myself afterward?
Android :: Single Intent To Take Picture / Pick Image From Gallery
Apr 25, 2010I'm developing an app for Android 2.1 upwards. I want to enable my users to select a profile picture within my app (I'm not using the contacts framework). The ideal solution would be to fire an intent that enables the user to select an image from the gallery, but if an appropriate image is not available then use the camera to take a picture (or vice-versa i.e. allow user to take picture but if they know they already have a suitable image already, let them drop into the gallery and pick said image). Currently I can do one or the other but not both.
If I go directly into camera mode using MediaStore.ACTION_IMAGE_CAPTURE then there is no option to drop into the gallery. If I go directly to the gallery using Intent.ACTION_PICK then I can pick an image but if I click the camera button (in top right hand corner of gallery) then a new camera intent is fired. So, any picture that is taken is not returned directly to my application. (Sure you can press the back button to drop back into the gallery and select image from there but this is an extra unnecessary step and is not at all intuitive). So is there a way to combine both or am I going to have to offer a menu to do one or the other from within my application? Seems like it would be a common use case, surely I'm missing something?
Android :: Taking Picture By Camera Correct Intent Action
Mar 3, 2009I am trying to take picture by G1 camera.
I have tried almost everything i was able to find on the net about this topic. It seams there should be intent with action "android.media.action.IMAGE_CAPTURE" which really starts camera application and returns captured image. But captured image is scaled to 0.25 of original size. Another possibility I have found is to pass uri where to save captured image. I went through all available sources of camera application and it should work but does not.
For illustration, I am doing following in my example activity which creates new image, but after returning from camera, image is still empty:

Jun 1, 2010I have the url of an image. What i need to do is launch the default image viewer for images using an intent. But it doesn't work. If I do not specify the type of data, the intent launches the browser since the data is a url. It works basically (since you can see the image on the browser) but what I would like is to have the gallery display the image for me.I can also download the image into a Bitmap but I would still not know how to display the Bitmap using the gallery (if that's even possible).I tried saving the bitmap to the cache and then launch the viewer on that file but it doesn't work. Can you spot any mistakes on my code? (The Utilities class is a class i wrote.

Aug 9, 2010I'm trying to get Facebook profile pictures assigned to internal phone contacts, but cant get it to work. I installed the recently updated Facebook app, at the first launch it asked me if I want to sync my contacts, I selected Sync with exisiting contacts (later I selected Sync all since first option didnt work) but still profile pictures are not being fetched. I can now see facebook contacts in my main contact list, and I can link them with my phone contacts (manually), but profile picture is still blank. When I click the View profile (facebook) link of a particular contact I'm taken to my profile page instead of the person i clicked on. And when I select Edit and go to Facebook tab there is an error with an exclamation mark with the message "Unable to edit SNS contacts on phone".

Feb 7, 2010I use the backgrounds app, and it lets me save backgrounds to my SD card. I go into Astro/ sdcard/ backgrounds and then click on the picture. It gives me 2 options to open it. "ASTRO Image Viewer" and "View picture". For me to use it as a background I have to pull it up in "View picture", BUT....no matter how many times I try and pull it up that way, it shows me the first picture in my camera album. If I click "ASTRO Image Viewer", I can always see the picture I selected, but under menu, I only have the option to "share" and nothing else. Can you tell me why the selected picture won't show up in "View picture"?

Can anyone please tell me where exactly the text is been written in Message View? On clicking this items it should launch appropriate event. Android :: VideoView Does Not Display On Entire Display Of Android Devices
Sep 29, 2010I have an issue with displaying videos on android devices.When any video is displayed it does not take the entire screen size of device even though i have given android:layout_width="fill_parent".There will being some blank space on either sides.for eg.if i have a video of 480 by 320 it will work on 480 by 320 device fine but on a device like say Nexus one it wont take the entire display of device ,there will be some blanl spaces on two sides. Is this a default feature of android devices or is there a solution to resolve this ?Why does not the "fill_parent" attribute work?
