HTC EVO 4G :: EVo Display Vs Hero Display?

Just got my EVo yesterday and so far I love it, battery life isn't bad..about 11 hours today and 44% left...moderate use. Hopefully it stays that way.I will admit tho, the screen is nice a HUGE but it isn't near as sharp and pretty as my little hero, anyone else think it has a slight blurry look to it? Maybe I have a messed up display or something.why in the world did they remove the lockscreen wallpaper? I liked that, and now it's just a blank little screen with a slider on it...can we at least customize it more?

Is it possible to disable title bar display dynamically after setting the content view by setting the NoTitlebar theme?
All the posts I have read told that any title bar changes we can make only before setContentView() call.

I am facing one problem in message view. Bacically what I need to do is in message view I want to mark any telephone number or web address in different color. Can anyone please tell me where exactly the text is been written in Message View? On clicking this items it should launch appropriate event. If anyone touches a telephone number it should launch the dialer or if it is a valid email address then it should launch the Compose message event and so on.
Another question is whether to display message is Android uses the WebView?

Hello there I have a problem regarding the new HTC Magic I purchased : in my text display where I read the conversations between me and my contacts... it has all of the messages I sent in 1 group together, and all of the messages my contacts have sent together. How do I change this to display the order in which they were sent and received? For example right now it is

The display area of my SGS has been reduced there is now a black line (approximatively 1 millimeter thick) around the display now anything that should be displayed has been centered (a kind of)i have noticed that after press-holding the HOME BUTTON (to get to the task manager).even when the phone that black border is still there and it look like the screen has been pushed down the display is not now at the same level as the top-cover (or screen cover).I have used the factory reset but nothing has changed.My phone look horrible now.

I have an issue with displaying videos on android devices.When any video is displayed it does not take the entire screen size of device even though i have given android:layout_width="fill_parent".There will being some blank space on either sides.for eg.if i have a video of 480 by 320 it will work on 480 by 320 device fine but on a device like say Nexus one it wont take the entire display of device ,there will be some blanl spaces on two sides. Is this a default feature of android devices or is there a solution to resolve this ?Why does not the "fill_parent" attribute work?

I'm a new android htc hero user. been playing with hero for 3 weeks and really glad that I bought it.
Hero really rocks, but today I just figured out that Hero only display 65k color, a bit surprise cause the hero display is amazing, I thought it is 16m color.
Does anyone know that it's a limitation in hardware or from 1.5 software itself?
Will 2.1 is released, will hero take 16m color?

today i was playing around with my hero some more (because like you i can't put it down), and i noticed that when i go into my albums app, and then into the facebook tab, and into my facebook photos, i have no albums to display. i have my phone linked to my facebook account, and i have a couple albums there, including a mobile album that i have uploaded pics to from this phone. so why does it tell me i have no albums in my facebook photos to disply?

I have noticed when I go into my address book that phone numbers appear as (XXX) XXXXXXX. The number for text messages appear as (XXX) XXX-XXXX. Has anyone else seen the dash being left off for home / work / mobile numbers? Not a big deal.

Does anybody else find the display of addresses in People app to be very poor. Its all displayed on one line obscuring half of the address - even going into edit mode doesn't show the address in full unless you scroll down the edit box.
I use the People app for addresses quite a bit and it frustrating. Any alternatives out there?

I'm on sprint with an HTC hero. Running handcent sms. People send me pictures, they come through on my phone as a gray arrow pointing right like you should be able to click them and play the media, but nothing happens when you click them. I've confirmed that what they are sending me is just a picture taken with a sprint phone.. Why won't the picture display in handcent? What do I have to do to see these pictures?

I put all my contacts into google contacts and synced them over to my hero but theres only 2 people that when they text me the display doesnt show their name it just shows their telephone number. This is very frustrating. All numbers in my contacts are put in with area code ie 8131234567.

When I receive gmail on the hero it displays everything but the images that are in the gmail. I have it to sync with my gmail account and when I go there the images are there. I cant find a setting on the hero or on the gmail account to fix this.

I just got the Hero today and I am very annoyed by the SMS feature of displaying the text message on the screen. It seems that I can either have absolutely no notification of a new text message or I can have this major intrusion of privacy by having the message displayed for all to see. I hand my phone to people constantly to use at my job sites. I trust they are not fishing around in my phone, but when it just shows up on the screen, how can they help but read it. Is there a privacy mode or a way of turning off that display bar?

I've had my Hero on Orange for 4 or 5 days now and apart from when I first switched on the phone the weather app has just said "No weather data available" and the clock/weather widget has just had my location. I have the "location by cell" thing switched on, and I did manage to get it working once with the GPS, but other than that it just displays my location. It's the same whatever location I am in. The other cities download the weather just fine (London, Paris, New York, etc.). It's not like I'm somewhere tiny either, I am in Bromley. It doesn't make any difference whether I'm using WiFi or 3G.

I'm using the htc hero stock IM application (android chat client 1.1 alpha) and it only shows a couple of the people online on AIM, I check on my computer and there are much more online? What's causing this?

I don't plan on upgrading phones for a while since I am pretty happy with this one, and I have been thinking about getting a charging cradle so it would keep the phone upright while charging. From what I understand, even with a dock/cradle this phone is not like some of the others that are on the market, so when you connect it to the cradle all it will do is charge. It won't display the clock, or weather, or anything along that line. So, buying a dock is pretty much a waste of money, right? Or is there a way to have it display that info upon cradle?
I know that the phone does come with a clock program, but it doesn't launch on connect which seems really pointless, unless there is a way to have the application launch. Plus, when it is displaying the time it doesn't bounce around the screen so I am kind of nervous about burning the screen in that area (like what would happen with old computer monitors/tv's).

I have just updated my hero phone and I was surprised it worked ok, normally things for me go wrong. However before when using the camera the zoom bar appeared on the left hand edge of the camera display and I could zoom using the trackball.
Now it has an icon on the left to go to my albums and no zoom scale. I can select it from the menu but again I cant zoom using the trackball. Anyone know how to get this back if possible?

I am having trouble viewing a PDF on my Evo.I've saved it to the SD card and opened it with 2 different apps, and then erased it and re-downloaded and tried again, but each time the same thing happens: it will display the first few pages, but then the rest of the document shows as blank.The original PDF works fine on my laptop.Also, I plugged the Evo into the computer as a disk drive and opened the file to make sure it wasn't corrupted or something, but again, it displays just fine on the computer.

I hv been using LG eve for only 4 days & i found the screen freezes there is no display but keyboard & touch works I have faced it 4 times in last 4 days!!! this is really annoying.you will receive msgs & other things but the only problem is no display. had to restart it to fix the problem all the time...(pressing power button & guessing/touching where the confirmation prompt will show up)I always turn on the gps & wi-fi

I realized that android is not able to display pdfs (in a webview or whatever) out-of-the-box.
So my question, are there any (os) jars or classes to display a pdf document within an app?
Has anybody experience with using some of the standard java pdf viewer libraries on Android?
The libraries don't need to be free, only usable with android phones.
I heard that itext got ported over to android. Has one of you did something with it yet?

I'm interested in using Android for a E-Ink based platform. I know it has been demonstrated once by MOTO, but I'm interested in using it for a commercial grade product and not 'just' a technology demo. I have got a question on the ability to change the platform to cope with specific display effect caused by E-Ink. I'm asking this question from the role of system architect and have no prior experience with Android.
E-ink has several characteristics which are very different than the common LCD displays:
time to update display (50-700ms)
it costs power to change the display (none to maintain)
display life time is determined by number of display updates!
tradeoffs can be made between quality, performance and display lifetime
grayscale versions available
The great thing: it costs no power to retain display information and they can be read in bright sunlight with no backlight. Also the display can be literally as thin as paper...
This means that the platform software needs to have a degree of control over the number of display updates and the type of display updates to get the best performance. Otherwise, an application which is unaware of the display characteristics could quickly drain the battery, or worse, shorten display life time to months instead of years. Conceptually I'd be interested in replacing a display driver, but I'm not sure if this part is open. I know it is hard to get info on the Qualcomm chipsets....
My question: can this be done? Can the Android platform be modified to support a drastically different display effect? Any pointers to an android roadmap?
The reason I find Android interesting for this application is because there is a significant overlap in functionality (from cell phone to browser).
