Android :: Install Unsigned Droid Application On Device?
Nov 19, 2009
Currently a team of developers is working on Android application and during the development process testers already have to test the current state and report issues.
So far I have simply installed the application by connecting the tester's device on my pc and hit run in the IDE. This way we waste a lot of time if an application has to be installed on multiple devices multiple times daily.
What I would like is to send the testing team the .apk file and let them install and run the application by themselves.
Does anyone know what's the best way to do it?

I am developing a game for Android in Windows Vista environment. I want to automate the exporting unsigned application operation in a batch file. So, I wouldn't have to Right click on the project, go to Android Tools and then select Export Unsigned Application Package... anytime I want to run my project.

Anyone know if the Droid X is gonna launch with a signed or unsigned boot-loader? If its signed I'll seriously consider passing on this phone for something thats gonna have an active mod community.

what's the difference being "Export Signed Application Package" and "Export Unsigned Application Package"? Under 'Signing for Public Release' in the dev guide it says you must:
1. Compile the application in release mode 2. Obtain a suitable private key 3. *Sign* the application with your private key
But then it continues:
"To prepare your application for release...To export an unsigned .apk from Eclipse, right-click the project in the Package Explorer and select Android Tools > Export Unsigned Application Package."
But below this under "Compiling and signing with Eclipse ADT" it says to "To create a signed .apk, right-click the project in the Package Explorer and select Android Tools > Export Signed Application Package...When you complete the Export Wizard, you'll have a signed .apk that's ready for distribution"
Do I need my app signed or unsigned for distribution on market place?

Is there some way to have Eclipse NOT present the Android Device Chooser dialog every time I run the Android application I'm developing? I'm using a running Android device, not an AVD. There's got to be some place I can set my default device to be the Android device so that I don't have to double-click on the device entry in the ADC dialog everytime.

Does anyone know if there will be any unsigned apps on the captivate for AT&T? App sideloading? Or is ATT gonna lock this one down like the Aria and Backflip?
Engadget preview said:
"happy to see AT&T hasn't done much to the OS"
"AT&T may have been accused of crippling its Android phones, but the Samsung Captivate -- one of the US versions of the Galaxy S -- is about to change all of that."
But they don't mention whether or not they've disabled app sideloading and unsigned apps.

A long time ago, on a 386 far, far away, some people would regularly boot Linux from DOS/Win16/Win32/Win95/etc... using a utility called loadlin. Loadlin would basically grab the system from the short and curlies, and load a target kernel into RAM, and jump directly into, which would effectively be running the kernel in practically the same way as if LILO had loaded it.
Would it be possible to actually make a Linux kernel module which did the same thing? Modules can be loaded at bootup, so it could be configured on a rooted system to load this module, which would effectively jump to a new kernel, throwing the old one out of memory.

Ive been real resilient against rooting. In fact i just recently dl'd launcher pro plus (which i absolutely love). No particular reason aginst rooting other than i have a knack for screwing things up. Comin from an iphone, this is all new to me. Basically I love my setup now with lpp and my custom wallpaper and custom icons. I really really want a black status bar though. whats the easiest way to do that (and eventually other things, but for now just the bar, and a few root apps). I understand the simpleoneclick root process and will be doing that later. then i need to install bootstrap app? then deodex- easiest way is the 928droid black glass from what i understand. and follow the all-in-one guide post and poof im done? questions: will this change all my icons, wallpaper, or affect lpp in any way (if so, how can i fix it back). Is the 928 a rom (and what exactly does that mean)? it changes the sliders and everything? does it automatically include a black status bar (with white text etc...) What do i need to do to get JUST a black status bar. how would i go from the 928 to a different rom? .....

Lost my Eris today on a golf course, not cool. Only by the power of Zeus' beard was it found, and now I'm on a mission to install one of the many apps I have seen in the market for help in either finding your eris or locking it so no one else can use it. SO, What apps would you recommend? Which work the best, etc.

I've published an app today mainly for my forum users to use, just a very simple app that displays wallpapers derived from the forum.
Problem I'm having is one guy says it doesn't appear in the market, and I've even sent him the APK to install manually but it fails.
My minimum SDK version is 4, I created it with the 1.6 SDK specified so not sure why he can't see it or install it. He has a 1.6 Magic handset.
So just wondering if anyone has any ideas, the app is called bocn wallpaper, it uses internet and set-wallpaper permissions.. but I wouldn't have thought the permissions were the problem...

I am developing application using Eclipse. My friend has HTC Hero and I am trying to run my application on it, but it says that the application could not be installed. I did the steps which are described in Android DevGuide. I.e. exported my app with the generated key. Am i right assuming that this is enough? As i understand eclipse signs and aligns application automatically when selecting Export.

I have an issue with installing an apk of size 72 MB onto devices like Samsung Galaxy i7500 and Nexus One. The entire size of the application is 256 MB. The devices have enough memory say 600MB on samsung galaxy. But still it does not install saying there is insufficient storage. Do the apk file gets uncompressed to the size of application after installing. I mean if I am installing this 72 MB apk does it take 256 MB space of application. Does it work somewhat like a .zip file? Please give me a solution as to why even after having enough memory I cant install the apk?

Logcat says: at.tomtasche.altitude requires unavailable shared library com.google.android.maps; failing! I developed an app with google maps before and there it works fine. And yes i have the uses-library android:name="com.google.android.maps" in the application tag of my manifest. It also works in the emulator, just my device dont install it.

Let's say I have 2 files on Desktop: (Note that I have another file than .apk application.)
.apk file
.zip file (wich contains a large of data that .apk must unizp and do some work with it).
I want to plug an Android device and programmatically copy these both files to Android.
The application must be visible to user and the .zip file must be "visible" to the application, wich will unzip it and do some work with it.
With PalmOS, I use HotSync API. With WinMobile I use ActiveSync (rapi) API. How to do it on Android?
