Has anyone heard anything from htc or verizon about the lag some of us have after the update? My phone is generally just slower and seems to stutter a lot more.text msgs is a joke with how laggy it is to read and type them.I was messing around with a friends nexus1 and it was way faster than my incredible This is all after a factory reset etc.I am hesitant to do a reset again since I will lose everything once more.

Just FYI my co-worker has upgraded his Evo to run Froyo today. The update takes quite a while to execute so be patient, but one thing I noticed was that the USB tethering no longer works. On my phone (still running 2.1) I can plug in the USB cable, enable the 4G radio, and then go to Menu -> Settings -> Wireless & networks and click on the "Internet sharing" option. Once I do this, my computer automatically picks up the new USB device and can use it for internet access (it shows up as "usb0" in my ifconfig on Ubuntu 10.04). Note that this USB tethering ONLY works when the phone has a connection to the 4G network, otherwise tapping the "Internet sharing" option will produce an error 67 message.
I tested on my co-worker's phone after he upgraded to 2.2 and found that:
1) The "Internet sharing" option has been renamed to "USB tethering"
2) Tapping the "USB tethering" option will immediately disconnect your phone from the 4G network. Consequently, this means that you cannot tether.
Anyone else notice this issue after moving to Froyo? I have downloaded the update but I haven't applied it yet (for this and other horror stories I have heard). If you do lose the ability to perform USB tethering after the upgrade, have you been successful with tethering the Evo to a Linux machine? I have tried these two tutorials and been unsuccessful:

There is Froyo running on an X10, I know its true because its my x10, this is an Alpha version and runs from the SD Card, it is not even a beta version yet but this version is around 90% done, still some things to resolve. This is not a re-flash of the phone it is a dual boot so has not affected the SE base operating system currently installed being 2.1.
The guys at XDA are working on this and if they get it fully resolved then it will become available as an alternative system, if they keep it as dual boot it will never affect your warranty. At all as this installs on your SD Card, there is a thread on the XDA forum but in respect of this forums policy on rooting and other things I wont post the link but searching the XDA forum for x10 Custom Rom will return a number of results so you can find it from there yourself.
If the guys at XDA can do this then SE can, the only thing is XDA are not restricted by International markets and operator restrictions like SE are, if XDA make a custom rom that runs 2.2. From the SD Card then for me its perfect it keeps the phone warranty and software as is and lest you run your own free Froyo version. The pictures are not photo shopped except for clipping and sizing from the original.

If anyone gets the update as a test user, post the update.zip here in a mediafire, etc., link. Hit install later and save to SD card, then mount the phone to the computer and move to your computer then upload to a file hosting site of choice. We wont have to wait for it to "roll out" by this method. Once downloaded from said link, and saved to your computer, move to root of SD card, boot into recovery and install update.zip.

Since no one knows when the update is going to come to the Droid. Could be tomorrow or in three months. Its all up in the air. It could happen anytime. Anyways, What do you need to do?
Have a battery near full all the time?
Backup your Aps?
Backup contacts?
Since I am assuming you can get the update without warning, I just wanted to know what steps to take, so I can have no problems with an OTA update.

I have a motorola droid milestone and it is my first smartphone. I followed a guide to install Froyo there. The other day and update to android started installing (supposedly from verizon) on system updates. For the last few days it has been downloading, finished downloading and then telling me the system is updated (no reboot nor anything) and then it will start to download again. I have no clue why that may be.
Build number is voles-userdebug 2.2 FRFxx 49593 test-keys
Only thing I did with a terminal emulator was remove a couple of applications
(visual voice mail and google search, google voice search and google earth to install them from the market as I was unable to update them).

I am not sure if this has already been answered, but can't find it. So, I am starting a new thread. Please close this if there is similar thread exists.I have not received a froyo update on my EVO 4G. Once I waited long enough, here is what I have tried so far to get the update.
- NO update via OTA so far.
- Reset the phone to a factory setting, no luck.
- Manually tried going to setting --> System Update --> HTC software update --> check Now and have been getting "Your phone is up to date" for over a week now.
- Tried to install it myself by downloading the zip file. Followed all recommended steps. Tried this at least 3 different times, using different zip files I downloaded from different locations. I kept on getting "signature verification failed"
- Called sprint, transferred to several tech support people, who knew nothing about android 2.2 (froyo)
- Went to sprint store, and was told to give it another week or so before they consider this as an issue.
The only option I have left is to accidentally throw the phone under a Bus and get a brand new one since I got full insurance from Radio shack.

Does the Evo come with 2.2 installed already? I was thinking that if the Evo comes with 2.1 and 2.2 is an OTA update maybe us fellow DInc users will get it the same day as the Evo, maybe on June 5th the release day for the Evo. HTC and Google have listed the Evo and DInc many times together as the first phones to get it. The only problem we may have is the difference in carriers. I really hope its sooner than later for this update. I wanna watch World Cup off my Slingbox on my DINC.

Every time I try to install the OTA Froyo update, I get what appears to be an error on the screen. It's a triangle with an ! in the middle and a little android next to it. The installation never goes past 25% of the bar before I get this message. I tried hard resetting (clearing storage) and I still get this error. Anyone know if this is normal or what I'm possibly doing wrong?

Reading many of the comments of people upgrading to froyo, i am at this stage rather put off upgrading to froyo. One thing that concerns me the most is, that some users are experiencing problems with the stock browser being laggy.I have a sim free Desire from the CPW.So am i right to hold back and wait for more feedback, as it seems since the update there has been more negativity to froyo than i expected. Or should i take the plunge and update to Froyo now?

With this RUU package you can flash your phone to the current official OTA update i.e. the latest software, radio and bootloader. If you have a branded phone, this will debrand it.This method doesn't require you to root your phone and it doesn't install any unofficial or modified software. If your phone is currently rooted it will remove it.If you install an official branded update to Froyo, e.g. Vodafone's, you will not be able to install this.An alternative installation method that does not need any drivers (or even a computer) is available.

I've read that there is a leaked version of the O2 Froyo update, but after searching I haven't been able to find it.. Doesn't help that O2 is only 2 characters and the forums don't search for that. Does anybody have any info? I saw the RUU one, but I don't want to wipe my phone. I'm probably better waiting for the official OTA update, to be fair. It's on the 8th or something isn't it?

Got my phone for a while already and never had a problem with my internet connection (3g signal), every where I go around my area I had full bars and full internet. Now that I did the update to froyo 2.2 and my flash wasn't working right, I had to do a factory reset and everything work perfectly and I had the internet running normal, but after later than day I start loosing signal on locations were I usually have full signal, turn of my phone and took out the battery and wait and waited and been doing this for a while. So connections comes on and off, when its on its about 5 to 20 seconds before my internet connections goes down after. Is the task killer messing up my connection even though, I always had a task killer before the update and never lost signal or connection?

I'm a newbie to the android world and had a question about when HTC releases the Froyo update.I rooted my Evo and installed a ROM and am grateful for all the tutorials available on this and other sites. So, I was wondering, when a version of Froyo is released for the EVO with everything working (camera, etc), will it be able to be installed as ROM or will we have to install everything from scratch and root again.I undersand that HTC will not release a ROM, but I was wondering if once they do release it, can one person put on a phone, root it, optimize it, and then distribute it as a ROM or do we all have to start from scratch again?

I bought an unbranded (fairly certain it's unbranded) desire from mobicity.com.au. I'm using it on the Optus Australia network, and its currently on the wifi at my place. Looking to update to froyo, but checking through phone settings>about>updates says there's no update available. Do I need to wait for an Australian update to 2.2, or can i do it manually? Not looking to root at this stage though.
