Android :: How To Publish An Update To Android Application With A Different Developer Account
Oct 14, 2010
We are migrating to a new Android developer account and I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions about the best way to transition apps to the new account.
From what I can find, the only suggestions I've seen were to publish an update to the old app notifying the user of the new updated app. This requires us to publish the apps under a new package name which we would like to avoid if possible.

My company is a Hong Kong based company and my app has been hosted by my good friend in America under his Android Market account. Now that Google announced support of selling app in my region, I want to move the app back so to avoid more hassle to him for tax reporting etc.
Do you know a formal way either:
- Check the existing Google Checkout account from one country to another, or - To move the app ownership from one Android Developer account to another.

I published an application that stores data in a local database.
Now I have to publish an update to this application to fix some little bugs, but I am afraid that downloading and installing the update will delate the local database associated with the previous version.
I would like to know how the update system works. Will installing an update completely delete all the apk, files, databases associeted with the previous version?
If so, how can I avoid this in my code?

We were in a bit of a rush to publish our app at first, and my associate absentmindedly created a developer account under his personal google account. Naturally, he doesn't want anyone else to have access to his google account, but it means only he can access the developer account. The only problem here is we have an app published with a few hundred users. What I'd like to know is how to migrate the management of that app over to a different android development account. I know one can't change the association between developer account and google account, that's not what I'm asking about. I'd just like to preserve the app feedback that already exists, and not alienate any of the current users. Anybody know what I can do?

I searched for a few different keywords and couldn't find an answer. I work for a mobile development company. We deployed an app to the Market under the client's developer account. We now want to transfer the app to a different developer account. Is there a way to do this, without confusing the user? My fear is that there will be two apps in the Market. One will no longer be supported. One idea we had was publish both. The existing one would get a nag screen that tells the user that this app is no longer supported and directs them to download the new version.

My company has a team of developers and testers working on product for Andriod phones. The normal developer account can only order a single ADP1. We would like to get a couple more of them. Is there a corporate developer account that would give us access to more of them? Or do we need to create multiple accounts, one for each phone?

I'm just about ready to Publish my application. I have a question about the Signing/Aligning of the application. In looking at the Android documentation they say to run "ant release" to compile the application in release mode. Then to sign and align the apk run "jarsigner" and "zipalign". I had used "android create project" to create my build.xml.
I modified it to run proguard. I find that when I run "ant release" it appears that signing is done as part of the process (I'm prompted for my keystore password) and the apk is zipaligned. I guess I'm confused that the documentation makes it 3 steps, "run ant release" then jarsign, then zipalign. BUT, my "ant release" seems to do everything. Is the documentation not upto date? Is it safe/acceptable to just run "ant release"?

I am about to finish my Android application. I would like to provide lite version and more complete paid pro version. Unfortunately, Google does not allow Australian developers to sell applications and I don't have any friends in US or UK.
Does anyone know of a person/company who would publish my pro application on my behalf? Google search did not bring up any results.

Something really strange happened today and I could really use some help figuring it out. I believe its related to Google's SSO infrastructure, and I don't really know how to contact Google to get my application rescued.
I have a google apps account I used to create the application, its claytantor at sightlyinc dot com not a f...@gmail.com account but its a Google Apps account, so I used it to upload and distribute my application. Today when I was using blogger my account said "do you want to use claytantor at sightlyinc dot com or claytantor at sightlyinc dot com for this account?" what kind of choice is that they are both the same? Well my guess is that somehow I chose the one that locks me out of my Android Market account because when I went to try to upload a new version of my app it thinks I don't have an Android Market account.
Paying the extra 20 bucks wouldn't bug me but there is a version of my software out there that I cant access or manage now, and that *really* bothers me. If I create a new account I will have two versions of mys software floating around the new one and the old one that has been stranded! I cant live with that.

We am looking for a expert Android developer for Android application development. You must have documented experience in following areas:
- UI development - file handling - multimedia decoding - authentication
We already have our application running on other devices and can provide you with functioning models. We will provide you with a well documented API for you to interface to our servers. The UI will change a little compared to what we have now. You will have access to an experienced graphics designer for any necessary design changes.
We expect that you will sign an NDA and a contract with us. Compensation will be $20,000.00. Payment will occur as we launch the application. It will be based on a revenue share model where you will get 30% of the revenues up to a max of $20,000.00. We estimate you will reach the $20,000.00 mark within 2 months of application launch date. We are only looking for expert developers and you should be able to initiate the work within the next couple weeks. If succesful, we would be interested in extending additional work as the application evolves.

This is my first post and I am new to Android so excuse my ignorance if this is well documented and common knowledge. I have a stock ADP, firmware 1.0, no updates no mods and of course I want to get the latest features such as voice control, latitude etc, and so begins the fun. Why is there nothing official that can be easily found which states what is going on for people that own the ADP? I must have read dozens of articles showing update procedures and claiming to have leaked OFFICIAL developer updates and only recently did i find 2 thread that eventually end with something stating there is NO official update for developer phones yet.
I have 2 gripes about this:
1. Why no official and clear statement from the development team to clarify this before people start scrambling desperately to install leaked versions that are false? (I know I almost did) 2. Why as a developer do I have to wait for features that are already available to end users?

I the android site, in the application fundamentals, it is written that,
"A central feature of Android is that one application can make use of elements of other applications (provided those applications permit it). For example, if your application needs to display a scrolling list of images and another application has developed a suitable scroller and made it available to others, you can call upon that scroller to do the work, rather than develop your own. Your application doesn't incorporate the code of the other application or link to it. Rather, it simply starts up that piece of the other application when the need arises."

Droid X - Configured with a Google Apps Premiere, working great. Attempting to add a personal GMail account. Go to the GMail app, select add account, fill in the metrics and then...... "Needs to communicate" message for ~ 3 minutes, then bombs out with - "Can't establish a reliable data connection to the server". 3G is fine, on a wifi connection that is fine, web browser works fine..... Google Apps account works fine.

I'm just about done with development and emulator testing and I'm unclear how to proceed with getting my application ready for actual device testing and them publishing.
Here's my main concern: I have around 600 images that I will need to have loaded (on initial installation) onto an sd card. What is the best way to do this? HTTP? Is there an automated process? Is this handled by an installation script.
Are there documents that cover this type of scenario?
When it comes time for actual publishing the application, again, how will I handle loading the images onto the sd card during the initial installation?

I am working on an app that uses the rating bar (stars) to allow the user to grade information. The SDK version is 3 (OS 1.5 - <uses-sdk android:minSdkVersion="3">, but the rating stars are shown incorrectly for devices with OS 2.1. I read some posts in the forum that suggest to upgrade the SDK version to 4 (OS 1.6 and higher), however this will excluse 1.5 users to download my application, and I do not want this to happen, because there are still a lot of 1.5 devices.
This makes me wonder: Is it possible to publish two versions for the same app simultaneously? For instance, publishing one APK for version 1.6 or higher version and another APK for 1.5 version simulataneously in the Market, both intended for the same application.
Is there a workaround for these kind of situations?

I have 6 gmail accounts set up in the Gmail app. Never had a problem adding accounts until now. When I try to add another account, it seems to try setting up the account, and then returns the following error: "Can't establish a reliable data connection to the server." I have tried multiple times and always get the same error. Data is always turned on and I have a good signal.

Like the Alarm Clock, Calculator, etc. I see that the source is available at :
http://source.android.com/
For example, the alarm clock I'm going to modify will "look exactly the same" as the built-in one, but there'll be a lot more functions. Is it legal to extend the functionality of the Alarm Clock and publish it as paid application?

I'm developing a mobile web browser application for Android which supports complex script rendering of Indic scripts.
For this, I used a currently available open source web browser for Android (which is licensed under GPLv3) & modified its code to support complex script rendering.
Now the code of the browser is from that open source app & the code of the complex script rendering part is from me.
My question is, Can I publish this application in a different name under the same license? (i.e. If the name of the open sourse app is "ABC Browser", can I publish the modified app which is able to support complex script rendering in a different name such as "XYZ Browser" under GPLv3 license?)

I need an email app that Works preferably for my G1 phone. I need it for university and my job, however I can not for the life of me, after a week of trying to get the email app that came on the phone to work it will not work. I took the phone to the IT department if my university after I followed their instructions online for setting the email account up on the phone and every time I got to outgoing server settings the app force closed. The IT guy couldn't get it to work either.
I tried it a few times at home before it just sat for an hour trying to do something or other before my phone crashed and it turned itself off. I had a panic attack and thought I had broken it but alas my phone loves me too much to do that to me. So are there any other apps out there that are worth while for IMAP email (I do know its IMAP no idea what IMAP is =) that I can use with my G1 that I wont have to kill to get it to work?

We have several Android apps and found that the process of uploading apps for each release via Android Developers website slow and ineffective. We like to automate the process. To be more clear, we have automation for compiling and building the apps, it's a matter of uploading them to Android Market and fill in the app details for publishing. This is where we are left with manual publishing.
I am interested to learn how people automate the processing?
Does Google have a web service of some sort for publishing Android App on Android Market?
