View 1 RepliesFor my design i have in the xml file something like:
The design is like a row that have two cells. I want one of them to be autosize and fill the row and one of them to have fixez size. I want that the second linearlayout to wrapp its content and the first one to fill the rest of the space.
Something like in css having two divs floating left and one having fixed size and one filling the rest of the row.
Is something like that possible using the xml file without changing the sizes manually?
Friends, My application has to get current gps position in every seconds and write this data as byte array to a file in files directory. To check the data in that file I tried to open mnually. But i couldn't open. How can i read the file. The file is a text file
View 1 Replies View RelatedI made a bit of a mistake when updating to the latest Android SDK. I downloaded the SDK Manager manually, then downloaded the 2.0 (and 1.5r3) platforms, and only then updated Eclipse...and realised I probably should have updated it all from the ADT within Eclipse. So I am currently stuck with Eclipse not able to see the SDK's I downloaded to the SDK Manager.
How do I add those SDK's the ADT, or do I just have to re-download the SDK from within Eclipse (which seems like a real waste).
I am trying to update an AppWidget manually when a user setting changes on the device.I can tell that my AppWidget onUpdate method is being called as a result since I log some debug strings to logcat in the code. However the AppWidget itself doesn't change on the screen. Here comes the interesting part: if I rotate my device and force a refresh of the home screen (from PORTRAIT to LANDSCAPE or vice-versa) then finally my AppWidget gets updated. However rotating the device does not trigger the onUpdate method to be called, so the AppWidget must be using the RemoteViews provided in the earlier update. Can somebody explain me what to do to force the home screen redraw of my AppWidget when it processes an update?

View 5 Replies View RelatedMy custom AppWidgetProvider has onUpdate method where i have logic to update RemoteViews
It is not periodically updated by system, but rather, i'd like to trigger onUpdate if something happens (in one of my app Activities). both custom AppWidgetProvider and Activities i'd like to trigger update from run with the same UID
I tried some AppWidgetManager's methods, but no luck, finally i ended with really weird solution: i'm sending broadcast with action ACTION_APPWIDGET_UPDATE and extras EXTRA_APPWIDGET_IDS which i got from AppWidgetManager
Is it a common way of updating AppWidgetProvider?

I have a Preferences dialog with some EditTextPreference elements. The preference values can be edited by end-users when they click on the particular item. However, at the first application launch, I would like to create a sort of wizard to guide the end-users through the configuration. I need to show the EditTextPreference edit dialog programatically. Somehow I need to emulate the end-user clicked on the preference.
Is it possible?
I want to serialize my class. I have this code...

Is there a way to Manually start a task with Tasker? Scenario being, I have a 2 Profiles setup. One launches the "discreet" task (when I'm at work) and the other launches "Silent" task (that runs at night). But there are occasions when I went to manually start the Tasks (Silent when I'm at the Cinema, for example). I've tried creating the Widgets, but they don't do anything when pressed. I'm happy to go into the app to select the task, but cant find any options to do so.

So if patience is one of your major virtues you should feel free to hold out for that update notification to hit; if on the other hand you would rather just go ahead and get your Froyo on now just follow the directions below.

An example would be within Android's Music Player application, when you can change the order of tracks in a playlist. I know how to programmatically change the order of a ListView, but not how to do it in regards to a touch and slide approach that can be found in the Music Player application.

I'm working on a little Player with Playlist and use the Gallery Widget to visualize the Playlist. I tried to scroll the Gallery Widget manual to an active item, but the Widget don't support any functions to do this. There are several methods in the Gallery.java class
movePrevious() moveNext() scrollToChild( int pos ) but the visibility of this methods is default or private. So i can't override this functions, if I Inherit from Gallery class.
can any one please help for a solution to scroll the Gallery manual?
Is there an app/widget out there that will allow my to instantly manually lock my phone? I know I can change the security settings in Froyo to where it locks when the display is off, meaning I could use the power button on my Droid X, but I don't want it to lock every time the screen dims. In other words I want:
a) phone locks on a timed basis (say, 10, 15, 20 minutes of inactivity)
b) phone locks when I tell it to via app/widget
I tried searching for such an app/widget but most of what I found was just enhancements for the lock screen or replacements that didn't address this problem.
However... a few weeks ago I was having issues with the Market (downloads were freezing in the "installing" stage) so I "Uninstalled updates" in the Market application under "manage applications". When this happened, it reverted my market back to how it was pre the newer market update.
My question: does anyone know how I can manually update to the new market again? The phone did it automatically before, so now I don't know how to get the "new" market.
I just bought myself a brand-spanking new Samsung Vibrant from T-mobile the other day. I was then informed that the JI6 update was being pushed out via OTA. Only problem is, my plan was to use this thing via wifi only (I bought a 1 month voice-only Flex Plan to activate it). According to T-mobile, if I want any updates, my only choice is to switch over to a monthly data plan (big old $70 a month bill). So I turn to the experts on these forums... is there a way to install these updates manually over wifi? Or is it time to take the phone back?
View 6 Replies View RelatedIs there anyway to re-establish or manually add the Facebook syncronization option to an existing contact in my Contacts app? I lost the Facebook sync icon in the contact information and this is inconvienent at best, and possibly is the cause of disabling the phone functionality at worse. Subsequent behavior on at least two occassions has shown that attempts to dial out using this particular contact locks up the dialer, causing multiple forces closes, and essentially disables the phone functionally both in and out of the phone for long periods time (10-20 mins) until the application can be correctly cleared and purged from memory.
I was able to successfully sync my Contacts with both my Google contact list and then all my Facebook friends. However some of the contact information was not exactly how I preferred and attempts to update that information using the Google contact list was not always successful. Not entirely sure if this is a bug or by design. I was able to successfully modify one contacts name with Facebook sync from first name first to last name first (to correct sorting to my preference). A second contact wouldn't modify no matter if I updated the name information on Google contact or on the phone itself. Finally I attempted to delete the contact and re-add it. This worked but now I lost its Facebook sync (no Facebook icon to click within the contact information). I'm not sure if this detachment is causing the dialer problems.
After syncing all my Facebook friends with my contacts (for complete-ism), I successfully deleted some Facebook friends from my contact list. But what if I want one back with Facebook sync, is that possible?
I have developed some apps for Android, and this questions stays always:
How should I structure my UI? Should I launch activity after activity and leave the phone to make the "back" button, or should I choose more optimized, but more complex to implement, way with switching manually Views and then manually doing the "Back" button functionality?
How long does robotium wait for a new activity to show up? Is it possible to set the timeout manually for the Solo instance?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am having a problem with an application I am in the middle of writing which is causing me some serious headaches.
The situation is this:
The application allows the user to configure several different kinds of information in several activities.
One of the activities, which is a subclass of Activity, takes data from the user and stores it in a shared preferences instance that I create manually and edit in code. This activity requires a complex screen layout that I do not believe would work well with a PreferenceActivity, hence me rolling my own in this case.
Another one of the activities, which is a subclass of PreferenceActivity, is a straight forward list of preferences, each with a list options - standard stuff.
I am finding that any data that I store from the first activity, my bespoke preference screen which manually adds the data using a StoredPreferences.Editor instance is overwritten once the user selects an option in my activity that extends PreferenceActivity.
In my application i wait on socket for network events. On some events i have to bring activity into foreground(make activity as running) if at all it is not in the foreground.
