I'm using an MK802 mini PC. I don't have a USB keyboard yet.
When I plug in a wired USB mouse, I can use that to click on the on screen soft keyboard.
But when I plug in the wireless dongle for a USB mouse, the Android soft keyboard doesn't show anymore (I guess this is because the wireless dongle supports both keyboard and mouse, and tells Android a hardware keyboard is available, so Android doesn't show the soft keyboard).
Any way to ignore this and always show the soft keyboard? Or another keyboard I can download which will always show?

I started using Handcent's SMS to manage my phone's messages and I really like it. But now I want to disable the standard messaging app that was included with my Evo because I get two notifications, I'd like to just get handcent's SMS. So how do I disable HTC's messaging app so that I can use Handcent's SMS only?

I just purchased a Motorola Cliq XT and have a question about the desktop icon management. Specifically, I was wondering if there was a way to disable the vibrate when moving desktop icons to the trash, or around the desktop, or from the app list to the desktop, etc.

Is there a general guideline for application developers about when to disable haptic responses? I know there are ways to enable/disable long-press haptics, but if an application was created to use haptic feedback for other events are there guidelines that application developers should follow? For example, if the user was to go into Settings->Sound & display -> Haptic and set that to OFF, should all applications refer to this setting as a rule of thumb?
From and end user point of view, I would like to have global control of haptic feedback especially if I find it to be annoying. I have seen several postings in the android forums looking for a "global override" to haptic responses. Ultimately, I think it is a question of should each application provide a menu to enable/disable haptic support, or should this be more of a global Setting for the device.
I personally feel applications should refer to the global setting, but would like to get feedback from other developers about this. Reference postings I was referring to: http://www.droidforums.net/forum/droid-general-discussions/6812-hapti... http://androidforums.com/samsung-moment/13633-how-do-you-disable-vibr.

Hello everyone. Is there a feature or a check box that I am missing that allows you to turn off the little text labels beneath the application icons on the home screen? I'm kind of doubtful, but a search did not return an answer. It would certainly clean up the home screen. Plus a lot of labels are "cut off" due to length and that is just annoying.

I have Handcent SMS installed, but when I receive a text I get two alerts. The first is a dark grey popup box with the text in it. Then I get the Handcent alert. I am assuming the first popup is the default SMS app. How can I disable this?

Since I reset my phone a few weeks ago, I get "Application updates available" notifications every day at 8:50am.
I cannot switch them off. I have disabled notifications in Google Play -> Settings -> Notifications, yet I still get them every day at the same time.
I am running Android 2.3.5 on a HTC Desire S, with HTC Sense Version 3.0

In the Messaging app in 2.2 when I'm in a thread it shows a pic of me and a pic of the other person next to every text sent and received. In the 2.1 app it simply showed my name and the other persons name; no pic of us next to every text. Is there anyway to disable showing the pics in the 2.2 app? Really don't see the need to have a pic next to each text.

I'm trying to develop an application that should not be visible to the user. I mean an app that can't be visible at the Manage Apps screen (Settings - Applications - Manage applications) and also whose services couldn't either be visible at the Running Services screen (Settings - Applications - Running services)I know I'm trying to fight against Android's nature of being open and give control to the user. But I want, somehow, to cheat the system and pretend the app does not run and even does not exist. Is that possible?

Was given advice to hide app from Droid (build:5) until fully compatible by doing this in androidmanifest : <uses-sdk android:maxSdkVersion="4" />
However the android:maxSdkVersion tag is only available if compiling using sdk 1.6.I heard that compiling using 1.6 will hide my app from users who are still on 1.5 (still a few i can see). But I want 1.5 and 1.6 users still to see the app just not 2.0 - how can I achieve this?

I am working on a research project and I need to write an Android application that is able to intercept SMS's and, according to their content, route them to a web services without showing any alert.
I tried to register a broadcast receiver on the intent SMS_RECEIVED, but the default SMS application is still notifying the SMS in the notification bar. The only way to achieve what is manually disabling the message notification from the default SMS application's menu.
I found that the "SMS Guard" application, available on the market, is able to filter messages out without any notification, without touching any default configuration (I wrote to the developer, no answer yet).

Is there any way of hiding specific app developers that you don't link on the market?
E.g. if one developer has made thousands of sound board apps or themes for an app that I won't be using - I could hide that developer and wouldn't see his/her apps on the market?
If this is possible, I think it would make the market much less annoying when you have to scroll through hundreds of sound boards and app themes.

is there a way to have a folder in the 'All programs' and then within that folder place the links to applications?
I am looking for something like the start button on a PC.
There are many apps we can install that we never actually need an icon for, such as Phonebook and Cnomp to name but 2.
When I was using a BB I could create a folder and dump the links to similar apps inside or I could simply hide an icon.
How can I do it on the Hero?
