I have some image names stored in a database, but the images themselves are in the /res/drawable folder of the application. I need to assign these images to some views at runtime, and I'm currently doing it this way:

Is there a more efficient way to do it? Or should I be storing the images directly in the database (they are many)?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am trying to create a drawable in code and change the color based on some criteria. When I try and set the Drawable as the background of the ImageView it displays but won't let me set any padding. I realized I need to set the ImageView image via the setImageDrawable() function in order to be able to set the padding. The problem I am running into is that when I set it via the setImageDrawable() function nothing is displayed.
Here is what I have written:

This results in a space for the ImageView but no image.
I tried doing a ProgressBar and I wanted to change the background and the progress bar using my own drawables from the drawable resource. Is this possible? I just don't want to spend time creating my own custom component if can be done relatively easy.

Can I have sub-folders to hold my drawable resources. For example can I store an image in, say, 'res/drawable/content/images/myimage.jpg' and then find that resource via a call to:
id = context.getResources().getIdentifier("com.mycompany.myprog:drawable/ content/images/myimage", null, null);
I have tried this and it doesn't seem to be working (but I may have something wrong). Is it supposed to work or do all the resources need to be in the root drawable folder? Also, are jpeg files supported and drawable resources?
Is it possible to have subfolders in the /res/drawable directory. I would like my resources to be organized in a tree view and not in a flat dir. If it is possible so how do I reference the resource from the code?

What I'm looking to do is "alias" a drawable in my app. I have need for the same image with 2 different names, and rather than including the image twice in my res/drawable directory, I'd rather alias it (it's fairly large). In other words, instead of:
res/drawable/name1.png res/drawable/name2.png
I'd like to have:
res/drawable/name1.png res/drawable/name2.xml
where name2.xml looks SOMETHING like this:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" ?> <bitmap src="@drawable/name1" />
Is this possible? If so, any idea what the syntax should be? I can't find it in the docs, and I've had no luck with trial-and-error.

I want to set a specific background image for all my buttons. So, I changed my PNG file into a Ninepatch drawable using the "draw9patch" tool(by specifying the line of strecth).Then, I applied this as background to my button using
"myBtn.setBackgroundResource(R.drawable.new_png);"
Now, the background appears for the button, but the lines of stretch are also visible on the android screen, wherever I'd specified them in the tool. Can you help? Is there something wrong in how I'm using the tool?

View 1 Replies View RelatedCreating a Drawable that is completely empty seems like a common need, as a place holder, initial state, etc., but there doesn't seem to be a good way to do this... at least in XML. Several places refer to the system resource @android:drawable/empty but as far as I can tell (i.e., it's not in the reference docs, and aapt chokes saying that it can't find the resource) this doesn't exist. Is there a general way of referencing an empty Drawable, or do you end up creating a fake empty PNG for each project?
View 4 Replies View RelatedFor some unknown reason when I now try to create a new Android project in Eclipse (Ganymede running on Windows) it fails to link to the android.jar in the SDK (1.0_r1). This has never happened before, and all my existing projects continue to resolve Android components just fine.
Error: "Cannot create linked resource '/.org.eclipse.jdt.core.external.folders/.link0'. The parent resource is not accessible."
I followed the tutorial here but when I create the project in Eclipse, i get an error "invalid resource directory name. Resource: "drawable-hdpi" path "/HelloAndroid/res" type "Android AAPT Problem"

Using XmlPullParser, on the START_TAG, I can use:
int value = parser.getAttributeIntValue(null, "value", 0);
to get values 1, 2, 3...however:
int resourceId = parser.getAttributeIntValue(null, "resourceId", 0);
doesn't work...it just yields the default value 0, or whatever I change the default value (3rd parameter) to be. Does anyone know what I am doing wrong or if this is possible?
I'm new to android but I've been working my way through the tutoials. Still trying to get my head round layouts in a non-html world and was wondering how to achieve the following....
1) I'd like to set a tiled background to fill the screen behind the whole activity
2) I'd like to place a graphic and a button underneath it centred in the middle of the screen.
3) When the user clicks the button I'd like to start a new activity and presumably I have to do something to the current activity so the user can use the back button to get back to it.

But when I created the project ADT created 3 different drawable folders for mdpi, hdpi, and ldpi. So when I wanted to create my XML drawable, I right click on my drawable-hdpi folder and select "Add new Android XML file", and there I have to select what kind of XML file I want to create, but there isn't "drawable" to select. If I create new text file and save it as button_drawable.xml Eclipse says that there is an Error in the file and that It can't build my project.
