Is there an app that'll let me control my Hero from my PC? so I can use my PC to send & recieve SMS via my mobile while sat at my desk using my keyboard.
My previous Nokia and Motorola phones had software for this, and my SE T630 could use BT to send & recieve texts direct from contacts on my iMac about 6years ago!
Or failing that can I pair a BT keyboard to my Hero?

Not sure if anyone on here as anything like this but thought it might be useful as I didn't see anything when I did a quick search.
Basically lets you control your phone from your PC.
I think its still work in progress but I find it very useful, especially when replying to texts when at the computer.
I was wondering if there is a way of disabling the side volume control for the ringer volume because i keep hitting it when holding the phone and its starting to get annoying! Also is there a way to get a widget on the home screen to turn the 3G on and off there are ones for bluetooth and WiFi but not for 3G well not that I can find anyway!
View 4 Replies View RelatedI wondered how everyone set their brightness - I was comparing my Hero with my wife's iPhone at home last night and the Hero was a lot dimmer in comparison because of the auto-brightness. I disabled it for the first time and cranked up to brightness and the display looked so much better - I just wondered what others thought about this and whether battery life would be affected greatly turning up the brightness.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm running Damage Control 2.08 (not 2.08.1) and am very, very happy with my Hero. 4G comes to my area in July, so I MAY consider the Evo then, but now right now I'm not itchy to switch.
Sprint released their 2.1 update and my understanding is that the good folks at Damageless have based their latest 2.09 on Sprint's new 2.1, adding their own tweaks.
Even after reading the changelog, I'm waivering over whether it will be worth my time to wipe and upgrade again.
Has anyone else gone 2.08/2.08.1 to the new 2.09? What is your experience with 2.09? Was it worth the time and effort? Did you notice any difference in performance? Or maybe a better question - anything in the Sprint release that I don't already have?
I saw on here somehwere that people are using an app to lower volume on notifications during the night and yet still use the phone as an alarm clock.
The name of that app would be great
Is it possible (or is there an app available), to allow the volume up and down buttons to be used as a track changer if held down for more than a few seconds while playing a track when the phone is locked (similar to how some Sony Ericsson Cybershots work).

I'm coming from a palm treo to the htc hero, and on the treo I had a program named pdareach that enabled me to have a image of my phone on my monitor, that I could control from my desktop. the main advantage was being able to text via my keyboard and not having to press the keys on the cell. Is there a software out there for the hero that is comparable? I've contacted junefabrics and they don't make pdareach for android phones. So am I the only lazy one out there? I don't mind paying for the app if it works, and preferably a program that works without rooting my phone, I'm still a novice here.

Trying to update with DCupdater for damage control 2.0.8.1, but the screen gets stuck on SU request. Also I had to redownload Rom manager by clockworldMOD and it won't flash clockword MOD recovery so I can use it?
I like to listen to MP3 with my Hero. But the ringtone volume is way too high with a headphone. So before plugging in the headphone, I have to manually turn down the volume. And also I have to remember to revert it back to normal level when the headphone is unplugged. Is there an app to do it automatically? Or am I the only one here?

What I can't figure out is if and how you can (a) control how often the Hero polls googlemail to check for new emails; and (b) how often googlemail polls the 'real' accounts to check for new emails. Is there any way to turn off this volume response when using the volume controls on the side of the Sprint Hero? Likewise, any way to turn off the sound when turning the phone on/off?
View 10 Replies View RelatedI rooted my phone (HTC Hero 200 running 2.1) a few days ago, went with Fresh 2.1, but after having some trouble with WiFi Tethering I opted for Damage Control. I did a lot of searching online and found Damage Control 0.999999% and installed it on my phone. It is working okay for the most part, but I found out that there are a number of 2.0 versions out there so I decided I wanted to update to a new version.
1) Version 2.09.1 would not load (and I read that it was unstable so I removed it and rolled back.
2) I went with version 2.08.1 and when I rebooted the phone it would get stuck on the boot-up screen and would not go any further (I went in, wiped the phone, went back to the initial Kernel I installed (2.6.29-8f4e5478 htc-kernel@and18-2 #1), but it still wouldn't work.
3) I research other Damage Control ROMS and went with 2.06.1 Lite to download the DCUpdater, thinking that if I went with this edition I would use it to get to 2.08.1, but same result as before.
Do I need to download a new Kernel? Do I need to start from scratch and root my phone all over again?
Can someone guide me to install from fresh 1.1 to damage control 1.0 and keep all my apps the way they are

In the Android SDK reference, under android.telephony.TelephonyManager, there doesn't seem to be anything to control the network type.
What APIs does this setting actually call?
I use "Palm VNC" to control my computers via my Palm TX; this is most useful for one particular pc as I can use the Palm's touch screen to activate commands rather than the mouse on the pc. A quick point with a finger and the command fires rather than picking up the mouse, moving to the required spot on the screen then clicking. Even more useful when I am at the other end of the room and need to fire the command. I see that there are many VNC apps for Android/Desire. What is the forum's experience of the various VNC apps?

I have a HTC Magic running the 4.2 version of CyanogenMod (Android version 1.6). What I basically, want to do is in the title. I want to have an app that allows me to view my PC screen on my phone. Gmote and similar apps come close, but they are useless as I cannot view my screen. I have looked at a number of "VNC" apps, but for one reason or another it just doesn't work. I have gotten VLC Remote and TunesRemote to work, which means that I am able to connect my phone to the computer, but beside that nothing works. I managed to get TunesRemote to work by opening certain ports in Windows 7. However, I tried to do a similar thing with a number of VNC applications and none of them worked. I have been trying to port forward for the last three years and no matter what I do, it just doesn't work. I am unsure if it is my Windows 7 firewall or the router, but either way nothing seems to be working.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to use connectbot on the G1 - it works great but. Can't find any way to generate a control key (ctrl-c etc). alt-sym doesn't work. Any ideas? In general the G1 is not as slick as the iphone but MUCH for useful for what I do. Re: connectbot, the 3G latency and overall font presentation is better than the Sidekick LX/2008 but I do sometimes need to generate ctrl-key sequences.
